I think Condemned: Criminal Origins is a pretty underrated.

I actually found my copy of Condemned the other day, love that game. Is Afraid of Monsters standalone?

Afraid of Monsters is a mod for Half-Life, it was developed by the same team who made Cry of Fear. Check them both out! I play them back to back every Halloween.
