I will say that as I hadn't read the books that the ending felt a bit abrupt, but that is the nature of the beast.

It's like that in the book too. I remember reading the last couple of pages and being like "holy crap, what just happened" and it was over two pages after that. lol

Which was the problem, I was like "really, you couldn't be bothered to actually show us any of this, you had to rush through it in poorly-paced exposition, seriously lame."

Is the score the same as the 1st movie anyone? Just curious as loved the score in the 1st movie.

Also, for me Francis Lawrence has been an under-rated directer thus far, I have often mentioned him for comic book movies as his visual style is amazing but others often shoot me down. I think he will get the praise he deserves now.

MUCH BETTER! It's why I am trying to find it now... where is it? :(

I believe it's being released next week.

EDIT: Amazon says it will be available on Monday. Kinda random release date.

My FAVORITE TV spot! Katniss is so friggin pissed LOL

[YT]knrFZfVrw7A[/YT]

i've seen it twice in 24 hours lol

Went at midnight with a buddy i saw the first at midnight with, then took two of my softball players this afternoon that i promised.

very pleased with the film. lawrence is amazing, really impressed with Banks as Effiie and her growth. her line delivery was fantastic, especially early on. snow was menacing, just like i like em. was great to watch prim grow before our eyes. is it bad that tucci's portrayal of Ceasar Flickerman is one of my favorites of the movies? i love him in the role and would love to see deleted scenes of him interviewing tributes/victors etc. he's perfect in the role. nailed it  claflin was a lot better than i thought he'd be. i didn't find him the most attractive like i expected finnick to look, but he def had the swag. malone impressed me as johanna as well. she had the best introduction, at least the most memorable lol.

kudos to lawrences makeup crew. whoever did her makeup and hair for her time in the capital, they made her look amazing, particularly during the victor's parade. she looked absolutely beautiful.

things i would've liked to have seen, but can live without and random thoughts:

plutarch's watch
i don't remember snow's granddaughter in the book?
haymitch's hunger games
more of the other areas of the arena
would've liked to see more of enobaria and the other victors
i got choked up a bit seeing rue's family on the platform when they toured district 11
you didn't see as much behind the scenes of the games this time

as a side note, please post ANYTHING that may be spoilerific, in SPOILERS. many people have not seen the movie or read the books. it's still very fresh and new, so please be considerate to those who haven't gotten to see this yet.

thanks :)

I got that it is meant to be jarring, but it is also a bit more random than I think even Collins intended. But other than that--and the fact that it felt like they downsized Harrelson, Kravitz and Banks as "Team Katniss" this go-round--this film was better than the first in nearly every way.

I really enjoyed this picture and think I may even see it again with some other friends next week. The best aspect is that while it is "another Games," the tributes have a very different mentality. This isn't about survival, it is about revenge. The look on Katniss and Peeta's face throughout, especially during the chariot sequence, is amazing. I also wish Jena Malone's character got more to do because, she was on that wavelength and then some. :)

BTW did anyone see it in full IMAX? After seeing this and The Dark Knight Rises in 70mm, I am more than ever convinced that this is the superior format to 3D in every way. I really hope more action movies and blockbusters pursue this down the road.

As a general-audience moviegoer, I felt like the way the film ends was very similar to the endings of Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes Back.

In fact, the way the story was executed overall was very reminiscent of AotC for me.

When I saw The Hunger Games last year, I didn't think it was as good as it should've been. They left out a lot of stuff from the book so I wasn't familiar with the world Suzanne Collins had created.

I also hated that they toned down a movie about kids fighting to the death for the sole purpose of making more money. Its like eating a cheeseburger with barely any cheese in it. Had Hunger Games been Rated R with more violence, it'd probably be one of my favorite films. Yes, there's Battle Royale, but I wanted an American version of that.

With all that said, I'd be lying if I said the trailer for Catching Fire wasn't amazing. I'll check out the sequel since Jennifer Lawrence is awesome and Stanley Tucci is one of my favorite supporting actors as he steals the show in almost every movie he's in.

Edit: One of my friends in Utah had to evacuate the theater last night. When they said the movie was Catching Fire, they really meant it!

Really? I have been to maybe no more than 5 IMAX movies, and I actually hate it, I much prefer the traditional screen. Last one I saw would have been Gravity, and I am just not impressed by the format, at all. Gravity will be the last time I ever shell out that extra money for IMAX. I don't care much for 3D either, and I loathe the D-Box that they are trying to shove down our throats. That's a fad that needs to go away, now! Nobody uses it. D-Box seats take up the best seats in the house, and you know what, they are always empty at every movie I have gone to that contains them. They are costing more money than they are making for the theaters.

IMAX is incredible imo, especially for film.

I highly doubt that they toned down The Hunger Games to make more money. And I have to question the individual that actually wants to see kids killed on screen. Really, what in the hell is the matter with you??????

Believing violence shouldn't be sugarcoated if it serves a valid purpose in the story isn't the same as getting off on it.

How?

I don't care for it because it's so blocky looking, and that you have to sit as far back as possible to get a good view (whereas a regular screen, you can pretty much sit anywhere except maybe the first 3 rows and get fantastic views) I like to look up in my screenings, not downwards or directly at.

And, I like the panoramic dynamics of a regular screen. It really shows when the movie has a lot of spectacular scenery and cinematography.

Considering the production company has made it their mission to make these films PG-13, yeah pretty sure they are toned down for the money.

But The Hunger Games was never about the violence, like Friday the 13th, it's about the characters, characters that are fighting back against a dictatorship. And if someone wants to watch a movie to see kids getting graphically killed onscreen, I am going to question their integrity. And I stand by my statement, that they didn't tone it down to make more money. They toned it down because it was the morally right thing to do.

No they didn't. YOu can believe what you want, but I am pretty sure that making more money had nothing to do with it. If they wanted to make more money, they could have just made it into 3D.

What movies have you watched in IMAX? What do you mean by "blocky looking"? Big bright screen, crisp clear film, with incredible audio. What's not to like?

Also, I am the kinda of person who sits exactly where they mean to. I never arrive late for my regular screenings either as I am very particular about where I sit. I always sit in the middle rows, slightly off to the right. So I don't have trouble with how IMAX looks at certain seats. If I know it is a problem, why would I sit there?

First, why are you being so hostile? Second, if they didn't care, why did they remove seven seconds of the film in the UK to keep the rating at a 12A, their equivalent to the PG-13?

http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/ne...s-bloody-seven-seconds-to-get-12a-rating.html

Lions Gate UK Ltd edited a particular scene by removing images of "blood splashes".

"The company chose to make cuts in order to achieve a '12A' classification," the report states. "A number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce an emphasis on blood and injury.

"These cuts, which were implemented by digitally removing sight of blood splashes and sight of blood on wounds and weapons, were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut '15' classification was available.

"These cuts were made in addition to reductions already made following an earlier 'advice' viewing of an incomplete version."

Why do you think there is a whole lot of shaky cam in the first film or why they avoid showing most deaths straight on? The target market is young teen girls. They have to be able to watch it, and PG-13 is the rating that avoids a problem with that.

Not too many movies. Let's see, first movie would have to be The Watchmen. Then, not in any particular order, The Dark Knight, Transformers Revenge of the Fellen, Transformers 3, Avengers and then Gravity would have been the last one. And like I said, I like to look up at the movies, not at or downwards.

That is a you thing, not an IMAX thing. It isn't like 3D where the format leads to legit problems with viewability and questionable choices in cinematography.

Eh, well, there's alot of shaky cam in District 9 and Esylium, and both those movies are hard R's, and, kids still went to see those movies. And aren't the books in the junior, young adult sections in the library/book store? I see why there is no reason to make it hard R. The movie was still excellent without any of the blood or gore. Harry Potter and Jurassic Park books both had really brutal deaths, but I thought the movies were just fine, and got the integrity of the books across very well.
