As far as the 2003 Hulk goes, I will say that he looked incredibly realistic & the CGI made me feel as if the Hulk were actually real. I didn't like how his facial features constantly changed & how on some parts he looked chubby & not bulky but for the most part he looked pretty great. The major thing about this Hulk was that he looked too human. Now, as far as the 2008 Hulk is concerned, right now the only bad thing about this version is that it isn't completely finished. Other than that, everything is perfect. He's ripped, he's not too tall, he looks like an actual monster, etc. I look forward to this Hulk & if the CGI can match or surpass the CGI from 2003's Hulk movie, I'll be very happy.

Is it just me, or does this 2003 Hulk like more effectively 3d then the new one?

It's not done. I need a robot to sit at my desk to respond for me automatically when people keep ignoring that.

Based on that comparison, yes, 03 kicks 08's ass in terms of realism. But if you don't wait until the film is released to comment, Advanced Dark will throw a big green hissy fit. :D

^ Ah, he got it in!

You got it Scooter because comparing a finished and polished product to one in progress makes no sense.

Thanks Superboon. God that place is worse than the AICN talkbackers! What a bunch of jerks in there throwing dirt with zero composure at the artists and their work. Grow up and critique something...don't bash someone's hard work online like that when you know it's not done. I love this response:

It's definitely a good response & true, as you probably well know. In fairness though it can get a bit rough in there sometimes, but at least a lot of these guys' know there stuff when it comes down to visual FX, and constructive critique can be helpful sometimes, which all CG artists will admit too, my problem is, like yourself, people that are highly critical over something that's not fully complete. That's why I wont judge it until I've seen the full movie. I dont know if you've read the script or not AD, but, there's one scene I'm really looking forward to at the campus (
involving fire, cradling betty and then rain
), that will really be testing for Rhythm & Hues artists

Surely, but it's all we've got to compare at this point, so it's understandable.

Well, when Ang Lee's first trailer was out, everybody was the same, weren't they?

I´m not going to vote yet... Because we haven´t seen enough of this new hulk, but so far.... Yeah, Ang Lee´s HULK was much more real

I have to concur with you. This is a stupid topic so early in the game before all the CGI has been completed and correctly animated to allow for real world lighting.

No offence to the original poster, but your early on this one.
If by June we can't confidently say the CGI is better in the 08 version, something will be terribly wrong.

*I HAVE JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY!*

A cake tastes better than eating raw flour and eggs!

Honest!

While my mother was halfway through preparing Thanksgiving dinner, I tried a small sample of food out of the mixing bowl. It was cold and the ingredients had not mixed completely. I told my mom it absolutely sucked, especially compared to Thanksgiving dinner from 2003.

Stupid mom.

I think brilliant bits like this tend to fly unnoticed over the coop here, my friend.

Relax, I realize this!
But shouldn't it still sort of look more 3d?
I've no clue on how far these guys can get in so little time.
But if you've got examples of a shot of unfinished CGI 3 months before release, and then a shot of it when it was completed, and there was a striking difference, I'd like to see it for reference of what to sort of expect.

I think the final stages of what Rythm & Hues is working on will fully realize what this Hulk will look like.

I think it would be quite difficult to give you a satisfactory response to this question, as I'm sure the rendering process of CG shots differs between VFX houses, and also rendering scenes is increasing in speed all the time. One thing I doubt though is that we are going to see massive changes to the models, more so subtle changes to skin textures, lighting and shadows etc., but, there's plenty of people around here that know WAY more than me so maybe they can give you a better response.

Then we'd have something else to make the comparison with. Presumably '03 Hulk would win that one too.

But would it be fair to say that this movie is a reboot, so The Hulk himself is a completely different realisation of the character, so there's no reason to make a comparison in the first place?

Never thought i'd say this, but i think Ang's was rendered better. Now that i know that allegedly the shots in the new trailer were not finished, i'll reserve final judgement until June.

I've said this in another thread that i think that CGI green skin at night maybe be the problem for CG artist. As good as the rendering was in Hulk 2003, the day shots looked way better that the night shots. In fact during the first Hulk out scene, Hulked looked even more cartoony smashing the lab to bits, than he did in the new trailer. So, like i said i think it's just an issue with the technology and making the green skin look real. Then again, there's no mammal on Earth that has green skin, so it's hard to get a reference point on how it 'should' look at night.

Well thanks for giving it an educated shot.
I love the models as they are, but the more I look at that one still, it does look a lot like a 2d cardboard cut out.
I'm guessing playing with lighting and shading could fix that right up.

No I think it's a group effort with Rythim and Hues doing alot of the work.

Ah, I see. I think the one thing this new Hulk design has going for it in my opinion is that it's alot darker in color. He looks a little scarier, as though he is pure rage made flesh, moreso than ILM's Hulk. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I think the more appropriate question for the time being is which design do we prefer?
