i never liked angs hulk, he reminded me of shrek for some reason.

I never get this comparison, no matter how many times I see it used on the Net. Shrek is cartoonish, not as porous, has big honkin' antennae, and a beer belly. If anything, the new Hulk looks more like Shrek what with the shade of green they chose.*

*For the record, this is a rewrite of my original post since SHH! decided to die on me at 11:29 like usual

to me, the fact that the new Hulk always looks extremely cut kinda ruins it. it makes him look like he's a walking sculpture as opposed to a living, breathing being. i wasn't 100% satisfied with Ang's Hulk but they got pretty damn close. if they took Ang's Hulk and gave him more of the new Hulk's body structure i think it would have been better than the new Hulk. imo, this is the PERFECT Hulk...

...this is what Ang Lee's Hulk would have looked like had they refined him.

The common mistake I see is people thinking that CGI improves (or should improve) as fast as the hardware that runs the programs. It doesn't, not really, as the basic principles behind CGI 3D modelling are the same now as when Jurassic Park was made. Yes, they can handle far more polygons, more complex textures, lighting, etc, and it can all be rendered a lot faster too, but just like operating systems over the last decade, though there's been a ton of refinements to the basic software, there has not been any real quantum leaps to the process. Bottom line is that the best possible CGI today will not be dramatically better than the best possible CGI from a few years ago.

Another way to look at this: King Kong, the original version, used exactly the same principle that Harry Haryhausen was using (and to far less criticism) well into the 1980's. Refinements to the technique occurred over the decades, but in the end were the monsters in 'Clash of the Titans' that much better than those in 'the 7th Voyage of Sinbad'? No, they certainly were not, and we are looking at well over 20 years between those films.

Now with all that being said, that doesn't excuse R&H from putting out work that is at least as good as is possible by todays standards. Have they done this with Hulk?
With the night shots I think they are pretty damn close...The daytime shots though I have to say are letting them down a bit atm. Will try and reserve judgement until I see whatever is confirmed as 'final' shots though.

As of this writing, 3,614 posts and all of them good.
It's always a pleasure, wobbly.

I like that Hulk design but imo it's not perfect. I don't like the hair, I prefer the longer, greasy, flat look, like the new Hulk. I don't like the way his neck just blends right into his shoulders, don't know why though. Also not a fan of the shade of green, I've grown used to the darker, paler green for a 'real world' hulk. The hands and feet should also be bigger imo, Hulk's hands and feet have always been disproportionate to his body, I'd also like a few more veins in there. Overall the design is alright with the rendering being awesome, the skin texture and lighting looks amazing but the design could be much better imo.

His neck doesn't blend into his shoulders, his trapezius muscles are just exaggerated.

No offence to the guy who created this because it is some great work but I don't understand why people think it looks so good. It doesn't make the Hulk look any more real than Leterrier's Hulk. And I know a huge CGI studio created Leterrier's Hulk and just one guy created that design on his computer, Leterrier's looks better to me.

IMO

i thought R&H is more of a small CGI studio. i thought that hulk is basicly their first big movie . i thought that until now they only did small parts of movie CGI.

Correct.

They are a small CGI studio compared to ILM and WETA but they are a huge studio to others are they not? And I'm sure that R&H seem huge to the CGI artist that created that Hulk design.

i think you missed the point. that picture is from a videogame, so it was used to prove that the hulk in this movie looks like a videogame.

A video game? No I don't think so. That design is created by some CGI artist for a project I think. It isn't for a video game as far as I know.

I can confirm as resident game obsessed hype fan... it's not from any video game. As I said with LL's Hulk, if a game could look like that this gen I'd crap myself in awe.

Recent games Hulk has appeared in:
HULK (03)
Hulk Ultimate Destruction
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Add-on pack)
The Cancelled Marvel Fighting Game
and of course The Incredible Hulk movie game.

Of which that is not concept art, nor the finished product for any of them.

....which make it look asif his neck is blended right into his shoulders and I personally don't like that look.

This isn't from a videogame, it's something a fan created after seeing TIH trailer because he wanted his own spin on the hulk. Guys name is Jonas on this forum http://forums.cgsociety.org/. Therefore there is nothing to back up people's claim the new hulk looks like a videogame :whatever:.

This is what Jonas say's about his creation :-

" With the new Hulk movie coming out I wanted to do my own version of the Hulk. It proved to be pretty hard to model something with that much mass and still keep him looking human.
That said, I had great fun making him!

my mistake about the video game comment. i must have misread it somewhere.

it still looks like a videogame :whatever: it looks less real than that pic.

Can you show me some examples of videogame characters equalling the new Hulk's CGI?

have you never played a videogame before? do you really need me to prove this to you? go to your local electronics store, and play the PS3 or xbox 360.

i'm not saying the videogame is as good as the CG in hulk, i'm saying the hulk is as bad as the CG in a videogame.

Yep play them all the time, so does frostbite and he says videogames don't even come close, I concur with him. BTW would help if you actually showed an organic character.

i guess it's a matter of opnion. look at the other one i posted. but neither am i the only one, nor the first one to point it out. so saying someone else agrees with you, or me saying someone agrees with me doesn't really matter.

the scene where he jumps out of the glass corridor...i wouldn't be able to if it was from the movie or the game.

nothing against the movie, bc i am superhyped about it and will be there opening night. but i'm willing to admit flaws, and not defend the movie like my life depended on it. i call it as i see it.

i was never a fan of CG, both for this and hulk 03.
