Spiderman 2 wont come before late 2021, I'm sure of that. After Insomniac is done with the dlc story, they will likely want to take a break as Intihar said, they really worked hard on this game.

I'm guessing that the sequel will wipe the floor with the Arkham games. for a character with spider-powers, there's a lot of potential for cool stealth, maybe even more than with Batman. They need to cash in that potential with smoother wall crawling/agility controls, plus gameplay that challenges the new set of tools

Well, I hope we can all agree on one thing: Spider-Man Web Swinging >>>>>>>>> Arkham Knight Batmobile Driving

Batman's stealth is better, naturally, and there's more of it, as there should be. Vice versa with traversal, Spider-Man's moving about the open world is just better. I think Spider-Man's combat is more about tactics and preparing one's loadout to a given style, where as Batman's combat is more an even skill test, just with new toys to play with. It's hard to compare their combat, because they give me very different success feelings. I will say though that Batman seems a little bit badass even if you suck at the combat, but Spider-Man doesn't.

I think the open worlds of these games are different. Batman's is almost a psychological landscape, whereas Spider-Man's is the man on the street. The details in Spider-Man are guys on the street dancing on cardboard, but the details in Batman's are like a leftover doll from Ventriloquist hidden by the Riddler or something. There's a lot more mind in Batman's world, but there's honestly so so much more heart in Spidey's gameworld. It feels like you stepped into a real place, and not just into a comic book panel, not that either are anything to sneeze at, but Spider-Man lives in a living breathing city... he has non-combat interactions. Batman doesn't really.

Honestly, I like Spider-Man's detective mode better, it's limited to something that makes sense for the character, unlike Batman who suddenly developed X-Ray vision which made no sense to ever turn off. Batman's detective mode is overdone, imho. Something more like Spider-Man's which highlights things that the Sherlock Holmes mind would pick up on feels more heroic and less game-y to me.

In the end, Arkham City is the best of the Arkham games, and I don't know if it goes above or below Spider-Man. It seems on par. Different strengths and weaknesses. Overall, Spidey has more heart, and Arkham has more brains.

But I'll tell you this, Spidey is building on what Arkham has done, and they are still building and have the general advantage of being later in time. After MSM2 comes out, I don't think there'll really be much of a comparison. So I'd put money on:
MSM > Arkham Asylum
MSM2 > Arkham City
MSM3 >>>> Arkham Knight
Marvel Spinoff made by another studio > Arkham Origins

Arkham Series for me.

Loved the Spider-Man game but the Akrham series has given me some of my all time favorite games.

1. Arkham City is very close to damn near perfect imo. With the Mr Freeze & Ra's Al Ghul boss fights being highlights along with the story and its stunning ending make it my absolute favourite of the Arkham series.

2. Arkham Aslyum was my first taste of this new world and it created the feeling of a Batman world that felt lived it for the first time. With the Scarecrow missions standing out as visually completely stunning.

3. Arkham Origins its the game that's seems to have became cool to hate but was awesome fun and offered a look at a different time in Batman's life. Plus it has the best Joker entrance of the series.

Plus I think its a bit unfair to put Spidey up against Batman right now with just that one game when we've had 4 from Batman. Revisiting this after Spider-Man has had his own trilogy would make this a lot more interesting debate I think.

I love both of them but batman is better. Spiderman is great and I would say its story is longer with out side missions the Arkham games are like 12 hour games were spiderman is like 18 hours but the combat challenges are just to much fun and to addictive in batman. Also both have great soundtracks but I would say batman soundtrack is better. City and knight are like top 5 all time games for me and even orgins is like top 10 were spiderman is like top 30ish and may not even be insomniac's best game has ratchet and clank crack in time I would say may be better. I love insomniac though and I am sure the sequel will be much better just like city was way way better than aslyum.
