Infinity War The Infinity Stones/Gems: A discussion on their power and uses.

I'd still like to know how in the one after credits scene he has them in the gauntlet already.

Does he have to kill Vision to get the mind stone?

Since they will bring in magic to a whole different degree with Doctor Strange I think that's a fairly likely movie to have introduce the soul gem.

For the time gem is harder. The only thing I can think of that could fit time manipulation is Ragnarok, if there's some form of reset going on, but it's a shaky connection.

I'm betting that we'll see the time stone in Dr. Strange. They mentioned before that they envision his job in the MCU as being protecting our four-dimensional world of which time is a part of.

I still think we'll see the soul stone in GOTG2.

I agree, I think the Soul Stone will be in Doctor Strange (explaining magic), and the Time Stone will be in Thor: Ragnarok (resetting Asgard and/or Ragnarok). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could get one, but it would be nice if they went a different route since the Power Stone was in the first film, and I think Gunn will want to go a different route as well.

The Kree have an object called the future stone which they tried to use speed their evolution but it back fired, this could be used as the time stone and therefore could appear in Guardians or Captain Marvel

I could see one being in Captain Marvel, especially to more give the impression that the stones are scattered all over the cosmos, but doesn't that come out in between Infinity Wars pts. 1 & 2? I would think Thanos would have at least collected all the gems by the close of pt. 1.

I see Thanos getting all of the infinity stones except perhaps one which will be the key to getting the infinity gauntlet to work (either soul or mind an argument can be made for either), also do not forget just because we are not getting a captain marvel movie after part 1 does not mean we won't see her before then.

That depends on whether or not they want to use GOTG2 and Captain Marvel to continue the story about the Stones.

For all we know, the final Stone could debut in Infinity War itself.

For all we know Thanos already has a stone (he already had the mind stone which he gambled to try and get the tesseract).

I'm kinda curious as to what kind of future role the Collector is going to play in all this. He does have the Aether after all, and he had the Power gem in his possession for a little bit. He's after 'em too. Even said so himself in the end credit scene in The Dark World. I wonder if he'll help the heroes, or maybe do his own thing against Thanos?

I know the staff thing has been used and re-used (Loki's Scepter, Ronan's hammer) but what about the possibility of the time gem being in Odin's staff? Could explain how the Odinsleep works. He backs his body up to a younger time to give him more life. Just a random thought that hit me while watching Avengers 2 last night.

He's shady but was relatively helpful to the heroes. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up seemingly as an ally but then double crosses the heroes to try to take the Stones for himself.

Here is what I see as how the history of the infinity stones could work in the MCU.

The original background of the stones once being part of a galactic being would remain.

A group of beings was created, each with an infinity stone, they were tasked to stopping the stones falling into the wrong hands (the infinity watch), this included Warlock and Thanos.

In a battle with.....(this could be the villain for phase 4, or the Magus after an encounter with the mind and or soul stone splits Warlock in 2 or perhaps 2 Warlocks were created?) Thanos is nearly killed and the villain is only stopped by Warlock and the other infinity watch members. After Thanos nearly dies whilst wielding the mind stone he becomes convinced that Death saved him.

Thanos then studies the Infinity stones and come up with he's plan and tries to take the other stones from the other infinity watch members, he manages to kill the other infinity watch members but Warlock escapes with the other stones entrusting them to others (e.g. The reality stones to the dark elves).

Adam Warlock then goes into hiding as he knows who has the stones and does not want Thanos finding them, he does what he can to hide their power from Thanos (hence why he did not detect Hydra using them the tesseract in WW2), Loki then finds the tesseract and with the massive amounts of power used by the Tesseract in Avengers he can no longer mask the power of the infinity stones. (The infinity stones are linked, as one stone is used the power in the others builds not to significant levels but high enough so Thanos has a chance of finding them but even with he's technology he has limits and has to rely on scouting drones/parties using sophisticated scanning tech).

This could be dealt with by a Adam Warlock flash back.

And this is how I would have the 2 remaining infinity stones powers:

Time stone- Currently in possession of the Kree and is known as the future stone, they experimented with it trying to further their own evolution but instead froze their own evolution (this would explain why Ronan knew about the infinity stones after he gets the orb), it has the power to alter how time affects people so evolution, ageing etc. Without the power stone it would not allow time travel (or at least after the Kree got their fingers burnt they have not tried it/have knowledge to do it) until the villain goes after it.

Soul stone- Would not imprison people within it as the Mind stone already has a very similar power and as Marvel seem to want to stay down a more science based route (even with Dr Strange) then this would seem inappropriate, instead it would have the power to drain the life energy of any living thing within it, empowering the bearer, the soul stone would also be the key to making the infinity gauntlet (work the large central stone in the infinity gauntlet, so the time stone would be green and this would be orange), it contains the essence of the being that exploded to created the infinity stones, without it Thanos can only tap into the power of one stone at a time, this would lead to a plan where they try and distract Thanos whilst someone flies in a removes the large central stone.

The time stone would appear in GOTG 2, IF the Magus is the villain then he would want to use the time stone to reverse he's original defeat to infinity watch or he may just want to use it for other means.

Soul stone would be Dr Strange as the Eye of Agamotto.

What about if warlock apears in gotg2 but at the end thanos captures him and uses the soul gem to capture his soul thus creating the magus who is the big bad in iw1?

^^^ So, what's the plot of GotG2 and how would it include Warlock?

I am going to throw a theory out there. I say Heimdall possess the soul gem. Given his power to see every soul in the universe and the color will be orange. The same as his eyes when he uses the power. Thor's dream not only foreshadows the destruction of Asgard but was revealing the stones as well.

I have long believed that the Magus will play a major role in GOTG2. Could he be Peter's father? Perhaps......and he may very well be the villain or one of the villains in GOTG2. Warlock/Magus may have been around a long time by use of the time stone. Hence the Nova corp not being able to identity Peter's DNA being something they never seen. Certainly they would identify any relation to every celestial being in the galaxy including Starfox.

Interesting idea but Asgard knows about the stones and already separated the Tesseract and Aether which implies Heimdall doesn't have the soul stone otherwise it would be separated too. I like the idea though.

My bet's on Warlock being Quill's daddy. I do think the Time Stone plays a role in the dynamic of Warlock and Magus in GotG2.

I can see the time gem in GOTG. Maybe quill accidentally uses it and the team go back in time and the person they meet just happens to be Quill's father. Peter doesn't know this of course. We don't even know who his dad is yet. Peter probably thinks this object just teleported him to another galaxy. Quill mentions his home earth, probably because of the music he is playing, and this intrigues the alien he meets. Later that alien visits earth to see it for himself. This happens in the past so this alien could meet a woman and peter is born later on.

I just want to see more space though. So any remaining gem could facilitate the story.

Do I really want another infinity stone story for GOTG? well we have a few other options, Dr strange is almost nailed on for another infinity stone, Antman is an option as is Black Panther so I say let the GOTG have a different plot driver than another infinity stone.

I find it more likely that the gotg would find a stone before any earth based heroes. They traverse the universe. Dr strange is the exception so I am ok with him finding one. We had 3 come to earth already and only one in space, so I think dr strange could be a good choice to combine the two, earth and space locations.

I think Dr. Strange Meditates his way to the Astrael Plane, and my guess is once he is there he has some kind of access to the same portals (or Backdoors) Loki always knew about.

I also have a really strange feeling they will introduce Adam Warlock in Dr. Strange. Remember this is MCU, and things go differently here.

Does anyone else wonder if the Red Scull will ever make another appearance, was he destroyed by the Cube or just absorbed?

I had a theory back when cap came out that the cosmic cube didn't kill red skull just displaced him in time.

The time stone could very well be in the Quantum Realm which would work for either Ant-Man or Doctor Strange.

I just realized at the end of Age of Ultron that Thor says that 4 of the stones have resurfaced. So does this mean he knows of the events of Guardians of the Galaxy?

Probably not the exact events. But he probably knows that stone has been tampered with/discovered.
