I’m not a huge MCU fan. So my knowledge of the whole story is vague at best. Anyway, I’m not here to ask about any of the movies, their content, storyline or anything. I do have an interest in the infinity stones and gauntlet. Nothing in the context of the movies, or what they represent in the movies. My main interest is, are they symbolic of something else. Something else in each and everyone of us. Yeah, I did say us. There’s a few ancient Greeks that claimed that everything is number, and of course Thanos means infinity in Greek. Would it be too much of a stretch to suggest that the infinity stones symbolize numbers. The numbers 124578 to be precise.

Choose anyone of these six numbers. For example 4

4, double it. = 8
8, double it. = 16. 1+6 = 7
7, double it. = 14. 1+4 = 5
5, double it. = 10. Omit the zero, leaving you with 1
1, double it. = 2
2, double it. = 4. With 6 numbers (stones) the circle is complete, ready to repeat again. To infinity if you like. Giving you a sequence of,
248751248751248751248751248751.

Three even numbers 248
Three even numbers 751

Ancient Greeks also believed that numbers where gendered. Even numbers feminine, odd numbers masculine. So the sequence of 248751248751248751 could be seen as feminine, masculine, feminine, masculine, feminine, masculine, feminine, masculine.

I did say that the possible meaning of the infinity stones is in each and everyone of us. Or our creation as it where.

We start as one cell. That cell divides in to two. They in turn divide into four. Then eight, and so on.

2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65536, 131072, 262144………
2, 4, 8, 7, 5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 7, 5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 7, 5, 1………

When the numbers in cell division are reduced to single digits, you find the same sequence. Building blocks. If you like. Or stones that go on to infinity.

A circle has been used as an infinity symbol. 360 degrees in a circle. Omit the zero. Then add the numbers 1+2+3+4+5+6, right through to 36. Your total will be 666. From the New Testament. Koine Greek.

248751. Split these numbers in to three pairs

24, 87, 51.

2+4 = 6
8+7 = 15. 1+5 = 6
5+1 = 6

666.

Okay. I’m not saying that I’m 100% certain that these numbers are the true hidden meaning behind the infinity stones. Only suggesting that the idea must’ve come from somewhere. Given how these numbers work, and looking at number symbolism in other ancient cultures, it is at least plausible.

Confusing, no. Just different to how we generally use numbers

*reads topic*

Seems like a weird thing to create a brand new account to talk about.

Not at all. Just curious to know if the Infinity Stones were inspired by something else, and was interested to see if there are any fans out there that had any thoughts about them. So, coming here, creating an account, posting a thread, seemed like a good idea.

Fair enough but I do think you're overthinking it. There's no hidden meaning to it. In the comics the stones (originally gems) weren't even created at the same time (publication wise). By the time Starlin got around to writing about them, 4 of the 6 gems had been already introduced in the comics and they were originally called the Soul Gems. And it wasn't until 13 years later that their name was changed to the Infinity Gems.

So the concept of the Infinity Stones/Gems was created between 4 different writers over a period of 18 years.
