The Interview- Rogen and Franco Try to Assassinate Kim Jong Un

After what happened with Dark Knight Rises, by this logic, no one should risk going to the movie theaters at all. There is virtually nothing stopping some psycho terrorist from attack a theater like two years ago if they really wanted to. Theaters don't have metal detectors.

I'm more worried about copy cats who make terrorist threats to stop art with messages they disagree with.

That's always been the great irony. You're more likely to be killed by a crazy fellow citizen then a foreign enemy. Hell, you're more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist. You're more likely to be killed by a reindeer than a North Korean terrorist.

You know how people are, though. We give in to hysteria and irrationality. We go to the beach and are more afraid of a shark than a rip current. Or we read a headline and automatically jump to a conclusion without reading the article.

:o

All it takes is one or two out of 300 million.

True. But I still don't see it happening, if they had it in them a North Korean terrorist attack in US soil would have happened ages ago.

The righteousness of the decision is irrelevant. At the end of the day, the studios and the cinemas don't want to be held accountable for anything; bad for business. No one cares about the principle.

SONY deserves to take a big financial hit. Their executives involved are ignorant.

Have you seen the news? Sony is canceling the release of The Interview. No tears from me. Sony is ignorant. What were they thinking? or were the executives thinking at all? Is it only about money to Sony? Sony made a movie making fun of an unstable isolated country with nuclear weapons. In every room of every house and building and on every street corner, there is a picture of their leader. Making fun of the leader - even pointing at the leader is considered disrespectful and will land you in prison / work camp. Sony executives should have known this. They think it is funny but I have been to North Korea 3 times and it is anything but funny to them -- and do I need to repeat "unstable...with nuclear weapons?" That's the problem with some in Hollywood. They lack common sense, knowledge and good judgment and then call it art. We see it with torture -- they love to put it all over the TV as they make boatloads of money about it but then they are scandalized when USA does it in real life to fight terrorism. Sony could have made this same movie but totally fictionalized it - but instead Sony thought it could make MORE money by making it about North Korea. That's just stupid. If they had called me I would have told them about how dangerous NK is and how they react. When I was there last time, NK Military gave me a hard time because they didn't like some news report on the Fox News Channel that I had nothing to do with. This is not a game. Sony, wise up.

NOTE: there are reports that the State Department gave its blessing to the Sony movie. State Department denies it. If the State Department, that is OUTRAGEOUS. We have children running the State Department if that is true.

PS - I do not like that terrorists can threaten any industry. And second, I am not defending North Korea's actions in hacking Sony [per FBI.] I am also NOT defending North Korea. My criticism is that Sony 'walked into' this one. Sony should have known better. These are serious times.

Yeah, yeah, Fox News, but the point stands.

What did Sony think was going to happen when they made this film? Franco and Rogen, they're comedians/artists, they live for pissing people off for a laugh, but Sony should have expected some kind of negative reaction from the country run by a lunatic. They should have told Rogen to take his script elsewhere.

Yeah I kinda think the same thing. Sony had to have known that this would cause a s***storm.

By that logic we have to shut down every movie if there is even one threat.

If that threat works for a country defended by nukes then we have to shut it down.

What do we do if a NK agent kills hundreds of people?

Take military action?

This is unprecedented.

There have been plenty of controversial movies that didn't get pulled from release because of threats.

Sony should leak the movie online and blame the leak on hackers.

Millions around the world will watch the movie, NK looks dumber than usual.

Well, the movie looked like it might be funny, so I will probably watch it eventually. I'm curious what the new plan is, straight to DVD? Digital release? Releasing it on Christmas Day was a stupid idea to begin with, all of this North Korea nonsense just adds to the **** storm. I'd like to think it really is all just nonsense, but that place is unhinged.

Aren't we pretending we still don't know who is making these threats?

If North Korea killed hundreds of Americans in America North Korea would cease to exist.

What is North Korea going to do? Ship one of their crappy nukes over here and sneak it into a theater dressed up as a VIP?

1) Few Americans would support wiping out millions of innocent people because of a theater attack.

2) NK could nuke or invade SK if we used military action against them.

Call me an arrogant American but why are some of you fueling this fire of this big, bad country called North Korea that we should be afraid of? We make this country sound like more of a threat than it really is.

And let's think logically here. Is Kim Jong Un really going to start a war over the release of a film? Nobody wants nuclear war as nobody wins. It's dick measuring. And hell, we do not even know if North Korea is behind all of this. It could be an inside job by a group of people who are laughing at us for hyping up that very idea.

All I can say is that this is going to make for one hell of a South Park episode.

Is Kim Jong Un really going to start a war over the release of a film?

This is the same guy who had his own uncle executed. He's a freaking lunatic!

Considering the history of ambitious uncles usurping young kings... that might not have been so crazy.

And let's think logically here. Is Kim Jong Un really going to start a war over the release of a film?

War hawks control the country.

and I have no reason to believe they're any more sane and clear-headed than ISIS.

This is the first warning sign that we won't have movie theaters anymore. Instead of mass public viewings of films, that will all be gone, and home video will be the future. New releases are debuted directly on your TV. With Blu-Ray, 4K, and larger TVs becoming the norm, not to mention the comfort of your own living room with nobody talking or texting, it really won't make sense for theaters to exist in 15 years. The biggest advantage is that there can't be a threat level for mass shootings or public disturbances.

This is the same guy who had his own uncle executed. He's a freaking lunatic!

Want to know the difference between him executing his uncle (and ex-girlfriend and whoever else) and him starting a war over a movie? In his country, he runs s***. There are no repercussions to his actions. Yeah, he is a lunatic but he isn't crazy enough to start f***ing with people that can do something about it. Not over a movie.

War hawks control the country.

and I have no reason to believe they're any more sane and clear-headed than ISIS.

But they aren't war hawks willing to partake in nuclear war over a film. These guys are not sitting there just itching to launch some bombs. Not North Korea, not Iran, not anybody.
