Days of Future Past The INTERVIEWS Thread (Cast and crew)

Simon Kinberg reportly did last work on first Class scrpt.

It was fox and rothman regime mostly to blame for Last Stand.Kinberg has been key member of team of both first Class and days of future past team.

I don't think Rothman had something to do with the story. Maybe they wanted to show Wolverine more in the movie, but he didn't write the screenplay. Simon Kinberg did.

Rothman had something to do with the story. Who do you think approved it? Kinberg and Penn wrote the script within the parameters and notes given to them by the studio. They have been very vocal about this. Rothman is even the one who came up with the idea of including the cure storyline and ran it by Jackman for Jackman's approval. I believe it's even discussed in the DVD commentary that Rothman, deferring to his daughter's judgment, is the reason Rogue takes the cure.

Simon Kinberg said:
In many ways the Phoenix story is the emotional plot of the film, but the political plot of the film became about the cure. That was actually a studio executive's idea. One of them had read Joss Whedon's gifted run with the mutant cure in it and thought that would be an interesting quandary for the characters.

Zak Penn said:
ZAK PENN: The studio did not want to do Phoenix, period. They were like, ‘No no, we’re not going to do Phoenix. We’re going to do Magneto versus the X-Men.’ We spent three months saying, ‘We have to do Phoenix. That’s what the first two movies set up.’ We spent a lot of time talking about, ‘How are we going to do it?’ I had my own ideas from X2. I felt like we had to make this more realistic. We had to bring the idea of this woman with this unbelievable power out of the realm of crazy, cosmic magic stuff

Isn't it terrifying how studios think they know better than the source material, and how they didn't even see what the first two films were setting up (Phoenix Saga)?

The cure plot also caused some controversy. Although it's been featured in the 90s animated series (where it was linked to Angel and Rogue, as in the film) and in the comics (Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men), a lot of people felt that it had a right-wing slant that was typical of Fox/Murdoch.

The message was not of acceptance (of oneself or others) or of being unable to change nature, but rather that mutants (and their allegorical counterparts in the real world = gay people, ethnic minorities) were diseased, unnatural freaks who would volunteer to be 'normal' (Rogue) or have the cure forced on them against their will.

It brings to mind the real-life tale of renowned codebreaker Alan Turing - the father of computer science and AI - who was given the option of hormone treatment or prison when the authorities found out he was homosexual (which was then illegal, back in the 1950s). He committed suicide.

So i'm not sure the cure storyline was handled in the best way (particularly with Rogue taking the cure, or with Xavier's total lack of a stance on the issue). Young girls today would definitely do what Rogue did but, nonetheless, it went against the film's central themes.

Since both Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence will be at oscars I wonder if any Interviewers will try to get somehting out of them about DOFP.

Angamb are you actually able to see the video interviews on MTV? They have a block on it so you can't see it from outside the US (grrrrr) but it says you're in Spain. I keep trying to find ways around that block, what do you use?

Probably, and this would also be a nice opportunity for The Wolverine to get more exposure and hype from the media.

We need an interview with Bryan! Thank you Angamb :)

Most of the times, MTV uses to ask you to go to the american site or to your country's site, so in that case I go to the american one and I can see the video.

the latest Nicholas Hoult interview for example, plays directly on that splashpage.

maybe MTV dont want your country to watch their videos, who knows?

hope you have more luck with upcoming videos :cwink:

I don't think that's how it works. Here in Canada, even when I go to the US version of the site, it still would tell me I am located outside of the US so I am not able to view that vid.

I think it might be something else altogether that allows you to view them.

Untill actors are announced I don't think we should take what they say seriously. Now
while Shawn Ashmore could be left out none of the actors are going to reveal
anything.I firmly believe they wanted Hugh Jackman to give his recent comments to keep
people guessing.

January Jones Interview
http://collider.com/x-men-days-of-future-past-january-jones/

“I don’t know that I’m in it, I don’t think Emma’s in this one. Well they haven’t told me if I am (laughs). I wouldn’t put it past them though, I got the script for the first one on the airplane on the way there. It’s called Days of Future Past I think, and I think it’s more about James [McAvoy] and Michael [Fassbender] and then Patrick [Stewart] and Ian [McKellan], and I think it’s gonna go back and forth with those so I don’t think Emma’s in those bits. I don’t know, I really don’t know.”

As I maintain for now Interviewing actors are a waste of time.Because they have been told to say nothing.

Do people realy think 3 months away from filming most of cast haven't been told anything?

I seriously doudt half the film will be In future with Xavier(Patrick Stewert) and Magneto(Ian Mckellen) plus Emma Is prime candiate to be with Magneto(Michael fassbender) and Mystique since Magneto broke her out at end of first Class.

Yet again more actors unaware of whether or not they're in it (though I'm sure she is). Pretty ridiculous considering filming is in 3 months (or LESS, depending when in April it starts shooting). I understand that these folks are contractually bound to make more, but it's just bloody rude to not give them some advanced notice. :/ They shouldn't have to resort to contacting Hugh Jackman to ask whether or not they can expect to be in this movie.

If they weren't allowed to say anything, they could just say, "I really can't say anything". I understand if people like Shawn or Famke play the "I'm waiting by the phone!" card, but cast members who are EXPECTED to return (like JJ, CLJ, LT etc) to their sequel have no reason to use this line.

They have been told not to say anything.

Cast for X-Men films are rarely announced till month or 2 before filming begins.

Actors can mislead people.karl Urban said point blank Gary Mitchell was villian of Star Trek:Into Darkness.

I hope Jones was just bull ****ting. Otherwise It is pretty ridiculous. I really really really hope Kinberg/Singer don't drop any FC characters.

Aaaaand like I said before, you can just say, "I can't say anything", and reporters will accept that; NDAs are pretty standard and no interviewer in their right mind is going to lose their job over harassing an actor for details that fall into that category.

They should really try to be building hype for this film; they saw at the First Class box office what happens if you don't market well or enough. Interest in "X4" aside, the vast majority of people who are going to see this are people who want to know what happens after the events in First Class. Making it seem like key secondary characters might not be in the film is really not a good way to rally excitement. Saying January Jones is back as Emma, or Caleb Landry Jones is back as Sean, that shouldn't be left until they start "announcing" stuff. That should've been up there with the announcement of the main four returning "Want to welcome back MF, NH, JL, JM, and the rest of the X-Men and Brotherhood cast from First Class".

All these FC folks NOT knowing if they're going to be in it is making Singer & co look bad. If by this point they haven't contacted all the actors, it shows a lack of respect for those actors and the other projects they might have taken on if they weren't waiting around for the call. If they already HAVE contacted all the actors and these folks aren't in it, it shows serious disrespect for what First Class set up.

Like I said, X1-3 actors using the vague line about not having heard that they're in it makes sense as a secret strategy. For the FC actors they shouldn't have to, and I get the feeling they're not lying when they use it.

Totally agree with this.

Ive worked as an actor during some years, and I would be pissed not knowing if Im back or not. Actors have their own lifes and new proyects, they need to know what they are doing next and what not

If anyone really thinks James Mcavoy,Michael fassbender,Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are only ones returing from First Class your delsional. At same token It's doutful Patrick Stewert and Ian Mckellen would return without Bryan Singer telling them anything.

As I say Interviewing actors and asking them about DOFP IS a waste of time for now. There Is secretcy shourning this project. They want to keep Audences guessing for know who Is coming back Untill Singer or studio Is ready to announce It.

they better make some announcements on Feb, because this nonsense is starting to not feel right
