ACTOR-JACK-NICHOLSON.jpg

I just hear about Jack Nicholsons heavy dimentia and bad health, and I decided to start this appreciation thread for this amazing actor...

I loved him as a child in Batman, then I learned to appriciate his amazing roles in Cuckoo's Nest, Shining, Terms of Endearment....

What are your favorite roles of Jack?

Mine has to be As Good as it Gets. Fantastic! Bot funny and sad.

Jesus christ, I thought he'd died for a second. I'm not ready for that, even if it seems it might be getting closer and closer...

My favourite Jack performances are Five Easy Pieces and The Last Detail, probably, but he's great in so many films. Carnal Knowledge is another favourite of mine.

Jack is close to my heart as my dad absolutely loved him.

It's mostly his latter career from late 80s onwards that I'm familiar with. I'd probably also go with As Good As it Gets even though I tend not to revisit it too much. Just something about it that I find hard to watch.

Cuckoo’s Nest and The Shining are my favorite performances of his.

A Few Good Men
As Good as It Gets
About Schmidt
Chinatown
Five Easy Pieces
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Terms of Endearment
The Departed
The Last Detail
The Shining

The man is an icon and one of the greatest actors we've ever had.

Now that Norm Macdonald's gone, Jack Nicholson is near enough the only other celebrity I can see actually affecting me when their time comes.

Out of all the retired actors who are still living, he's the one I want to see return the most. I know he's 84 but if Clint Eastwood is still in the game, Nicholson can do it too.

Great thread idea. Jack the the ****ing man. Never rub another man's rhubarb.

I didn’t know Jack Nicholson had dementia.

I was hoping he’d have one last performance in him as How Do You Know should not be his last movie lol but The Departed and The Bucket List ain’t bad as his last two if we ignore that one.

The sad thing is that this will never happen. As I understand his dementia is very bad and he even loses touch with realty and thinks he lives with his mom in his childhood home. I doubt mentaly he will be able to return. :(

I recently made a Jack marathon. I started with One Flew over the Cucoo's nest, great film with depressing ending, then Chinatown - also great. then I watched Terms of Endearment - very boring film, but Jack was great in it. Best part of the film actually.

Damn, I didn't know it was that bad. No wonder he hasn't even been to the Oscars in a long time. :csad:

hope all the best for nicholson and his family.
dementia ain't no joke!

happens that i been watching Mars Attacks! on netflix recently.
a fun film, but one of burton's weaker movies, imo.

but nicholson was really having fun playing two different roles in this movie.

you can tell he was having the time of his life to be able to chew scenery under burton's directon for this and batman.

Jack is my all-time favorite actor! He’s fascinating in everything he does. My favorite Jack performances:

1. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest
2. Chinatown
3. The Last Detail
4. The Shining
5. The Shooting

I forgot about Easy Rider! That’s definitely up there

I wasn't aware of any of this. Last I heard, he simply had trouble remembering things. Really sad to hear.

His Art Land character from Mars Attacks! is such an underrated comedic performance. I didn’t even know it was him when I used to watch it as a kid.

Same here the first time I saw it but at that point it was only the second Nicholson movie I'd seen after Batman so I wasn't that familiar with him yet. Mars Attacks is just an underrated movie in general.

For me first time seeing Jack was on The Andy Griffith Show reruns.
