TDK Talk
Author: Jett
Thursday, October 19, 2006 - 5:16 AM: Knowing that the press junket for THE PRESTIGE was talking place last weekend, I figured that there would be a ton of TDK info online this week. And I was correct. Several BOF'ers sent us a link to an article over at VH1.COM. Here's a few blurbs:

Bale: "It's all top-secret stuff. Chris will call me in due time, and I trust him completely. On that, I know I'm in very good hands. All I know is that we will be improving upon a pretty damn fantastic first BATMAN BEGINS."

Caine: "I spoke to [Nolan] about [The Joker] and said, 'This is how I think The Joker should be.' I said a certain thing about how it should be done, and he [Nolan] says, 'I've got a better way than that one.' And I went, 'Whoa,' because my way was good — my way was really good. Because, I mean, you have got to top Jack — and not a lot of people can top Jack....Christopher is very tight with everything. He won't tell you anything, even though I know him so well. But I think it will be incredible."

Nolan on BOF - errr - The Net and Bat-Fans: "I really don't look at any of that stuff, because when you work on something like 'Batman,' it's simply too confusing with all of the different amounts of interest in it. It's very gratifying that there is such a loyal fanbase and that they are interested. But I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to technology; I don't really use the Internet. I'm aware of some [rumors]; my wife tells me about the more outlandish ones and so forth. It is fun that people are so interested, and it's really a great thing that the fans are so passionate."

As you can see, everyone -- sans Caine -- was very coy about everything TDK related. Anyway, THE PRESTIGE hits theaters Friday and I'm sure Nolan and company will go full speed ahead with TDK.

Its funny, but Caine always tries to spill some info in every interview. I wonder if he ever gets yelled at for it. I also think its funny that he is worried about topping Jack Nicholson in the Jokers performance. Jack was great, but I dont think he will be to difficult to top, mainly because Jack was already playing himself in all of his roles by that time, he just happens to be a very colorfull guy who most people love to see in a film. I think Ledgers Joker will be a much more realistic killer, and that will make him better.

Yeah, i Agree. That's why I think they are gonna go the Clockwork Orange route with ledger's portrayal of the joker. Something diffrerent/over the top, and still very frightening.

That will be hilarious if Caine pulls a Kirsten Dunst and spills something important like she did about Venom! :woot:

Whether anyone likes it or not, Jack's performance was revered and DOES need to be topped, or at least be on par if they want this to be successfull.

That's not to say it has to be the same portrayal, mind you, just that even if they go a diff. route with the character, the performance will have to be outstanding.

I have the feeling Nolan(s?) had an idea which nobody of us thought about. Although I'm curious as hell what Nolan had to tell Caine I'd so love to be surprised when I watch the film. My and I guess your Dilemma as well. Time will tell how it'll work out this time (I couldn't keep my eyes away from any spoiler when Begins was in production).

I love how Caine is always dropping his ideas to the director, etc.

Michael Caine is crazy

in a good way.

Yeah, especially when his ideas are "really good".:woot:
btw, I wonder what his ideas were:huh:

Michael Caine is kinda like the cool old grandpa who always gives you candy or tells a funny story.

LOL

My next signature.

I believe Lara Flynn Boyle is topping Nicholson as of late.

Are there any movies where Jack Nicholson plays a character other than himself?

He was SHH's Ronny Shade in a movie and he was better than the original.

Well it's possible to top Jack Nicholson's Joker since it will be different Joker on screen - a lot like the comics.

Agreed.

Because he acted like himself, and that's way cooler than me.

Don't get me wrong. I have mad respect for Nicholson, I just don't see all these "Greatest living actor" comments, since in every movie I've seen him in he's basically acting exactly the same, just to varying levels of insanity.

Let's just put it this way, he's really, really good at being himself. (heh)

I love how Caine goes to the director with, "this is what we should do."

Awesome.

I kinda get the whole "he's acting like himself" thing, but he's just so good in his delivery, lol. Watching him in The Departed, he did play an extension of himself, but dammit he was brutal. The audience loves him.

I love how Caine is so excited about the next Batman movie that he's pitching storylines

It shows that Michael Caine actually does care strongly about the franchise.

That is admirable. Awesome guy.

Nope. He gets away with it because he's Michael Caine, considered far & away one of the greatest actors on either side of the coast. He can say & do pretty much whatever he wants and no one will dare question him.

That's why it's great to be Michael Caine.

Nolan and Ledger don't want to top Jack Nicholson's Joker.

They want to go in a different direction, as they've said in all their interviews so far. Let's just forget Nicholson's Joker, and look at the very first Batman stories, which is what Nolan is going for.
