People have griping constantly about Shred-Head being absent from the film, which is basically due to it following live action continutiy as we all know. But we do get Karai, the heartbeat away Foot Clan leader, as it were. She has become more well known due to the 2003 series, but do a lot of fans really know the part she plays in the TMNT universe? Hopefully Zhang Ziyi does a good job of portraying her come the 23rd.

Yeah, I hope Karai becomes a household name. She is really a great character. I hope they keep her story closer to the Mirage version as opposed to her new toon version.

I think Karai's going to be more like the new toon version of the character, since she looks so young.

I love Karai, both versions of her that we've been exposed to. I hope I love this new Karai as well.

(I personally love the comic Karai the best)

Karai is dynamic. She has something the Shredder doesn't. She has an inner conflict. To obey her father or to follow her honor. She isn't evil at all, I think. Just torn between the two ideas that continue to haunt her. And that is why she is such an interesting character.

Yes, we most certainly do get Karai in the new TMNT movie. And that is definately a good thing. Karai as a character, is one that is very complex. As she is not quite a heroine, nor is she a character that can be described as a villainess either. Rather, she ultimately can probably be best described as a Anti-Hero. No doubt, she has committed criminal acts, but unlike The Shredder, she is a much more sympathetic considering her goals isnt necessarily about material gain. As was shown in the case of her daughter in the comics.

Looking very much forward to seeing her in the new film.

I bought her movie figure last night, and boy am I satisified.

You both pointed out the reasons why I love this character as much as I do and I think the new movie did a good job at showing those aspects of her character. Although I do wish there were more of her in the film. But I smell a sequel where we'll see a lot of her. I sure hope there'll be a sequel.

She's very attractive in the new movie.
Ohhhh yesss that is true!! :woot: And so is April, but man, I really hope we see a lot more of Karai in the sequel(s). Her character was great in this first one.

I'm all for her. Though rumors are circling that Shredder maybe back in the next film.

The problem, Terence, is that if Shredder survived being thrown into a trash truck then how the heck did Super Shredder not survive having some wood hit him in the head. By following the live-action continuity it leaves to many questions unanswered. That was the problem with Ninja Turtles 3. They get sent to ancient Japan and every kid is like, "wait a minute! Whats with the cliche plot and what the f--k happened to Super Shredder?"

I remember going to see TMNT III when I was 6. I was SO devastated that Shredder wasn't in it that I cried. I was sickened with how they went back in time instead of focusing on NYC. Here's hoping this movie makes $100 mil so that TMNT2 will bring us the resurrection of Shredder!

Ziyi did pretty good for the limited role she had. However, I noticed that when she gave that command to the Foot that it was in Chinese or something that sounded Chinese, which was really weird.

The thing about Super-Shredder is that Ninja Turtles II was not that good aside from my boy crush on that asian kid, Keeno or whatever. The Shredder shows up after being crushed and totally killed in the first one like "check it out, look what they did, they ruined my costume, gay huh? I'm all scratched up to". Although that how could Super Shredder not be dead line has some merit, because its scientific fact that Kevin Nash cannot be killed.

Alot of casual and 90s cartoon fans wanted to see the Shredder, I dont think they would care or understand if it wasnt Oroko Saki, so why not just let someone else wear the suit, they could just as easily give it to Karai or a colony of worms.

Karai didn't really do much in the movie. In fact, the villains in the movie were pretty lame for the most part. What made the movie good was the Leo & Ralph story.

I personally felt Karai was one of the more interesting characters introduced in the TMNT film universe with TMNT (2007), as well as one who's scenes were definately highlights for me. As a character in the film, she was never one that was over-explained in what her true motives were, and more importantly what exactly was her backstory with The Shredder, which was basically implied more than anything else. But I also felt this was done for a reason since she's obviously a character that is being looked at for appearing in a future sequel. As far as The Shredder returning, I honestly wouldnt be that opposed to the idea of the "Familiar" face from the turtles past Karai referred to actually being Karai as Lady Shredder (which was seen in the Image comics, and in the 2003 animated incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), but if it's decided that it will be Oroko Saki himself, hey .... thats cool too.

Hopefully the sequel does her more justice because really she didnt do much. And did my eyes deceive or did she get pwned by April when they were storming Winters building?

I noticed that too!

Also, did it strike anyone else as odd that she seemed to have a "top" foot ninja. Not only that, when she said "someone from your past" he gave a slight nod.

It can only mean one thing

its slash!!

lol i hope not but anyway he's archie/cartoon continuity so it isnt likely. If/when they bring Shredder back it better be worm/clone Shredder or no Shredder at all b/c i'm tired of seeing in every incarnation of TMNT.

hopefully Karai will be in the next film.. I'm happy to accept this in a new continuity instead of being held to anything before..

I liked the scene towards the beginning of the final fight when she's marching her foot soldiers out of the building and directs them in two separate directions. Very cool animation when both sections sprint away in unison.

Yea the control she had over them was impressive definitely reminscent of Tatsu's "NINJA VANISH!" and the fist he always made in the 1st flick. It dissapoints me even more that Munroe couldnt have lengthened the fight with the Foot or at the very made Karai the last line of defense and have a dope action sequene there.

That would have been cool to see and all, but I think it's somewhat apparent that the reason why there wasnt a whole lot of time spent on the Foot Clan, or Karai herself is because they seem poised to play a much larger role (especially with Karai) in the sequel. Which would be ultimately more satisfying in the context of the sequel/sequels that Laird/Munroe may have in mind.
