The Killing Joke: Rather short read!

I've read the Killing Joke before. That was several years ago, when alas, I was a preteen. Today at the library (the one I'm typing this at right now), I went over to the comic section and found "The Killing Joke" once more, and decided to check it out.

The first thing that came to my mind: "This book is a lot shorter than I remember it."

Wouldn't have been awesome if TKJ was like ... three times larger? Would have made for more great Joker appearances/dialogue.

Sometimes it's a lot better to have quality over quantity. If you drag on a story for no particular reason to just have "more Joker moments" that's just going to make the story rather craptacular, in my opinion.

I think it was sufficently long.

There was nothing in there that didn't need to be there, or that was too drawn out. Nothing worse than when a story is dragged out just to make it a nice big TPB.

Like SIAT said it's about the quality not the quantity.

HOWEVER, if they ever do an Absolute TKJ, they oughta' add a whole bunch of stuff with it--including perhaps some afterwords or comments from Moore.

I'd like an Absolute edition to have the full script like Arkham Asylum did.

Mainly, I would have liked to see more Pre-Joker moments.

But that is just me talking. I know what you guys mean, and I concur:

I love the size of this book, it really gets to the point of the matter rather fast. It reminds me of watching the old animated series cartoons. Half hour programs seemed to be over far to fast, but they always did a great job with it so I was happy. I love long stories like Long Halloween, but Killing Joke was just one of those stories that is perfect short and sweet.

It gets to the point but calling it a graphic novel and it only being like 80 pages Is kinda silly. now Watchmen Is THE graphic novel

Was I the only one who really wasn't impressed by TKJ? Everyone always says how it's such a great origin but one of the biggest contradictions in it is Joker's whole "one bad day" theory. in the end, he fails to prove his point that one bad day can make anyone go insane. It's like they wrote the book to tease what his origin might have been but intended to have it be one of the other "multiple choices" but then everyone ate it up as the "definitive origin", ignoring what I think is a HUGE contradiction, and rather than writing the real origin later they just said "ok screw it, we'll leave it as is rather than rock the boat". Also, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Watchmen fan but having seen what Alan Moore can do, the writing of TKJ is hugely disappointing to me on every level.

its true. it bugs me when people refer to TPB's as GN's....during the whole sin city movie craze, everyone was refering to them as graphic novels...which they're not.
