The Rise of Skywalker The Knights of Ren

As expected, they were there to look cool and sell toys. Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Phasma, Knights of Ren. Maybe we'll get a series one day.
I was totally up for buying a Phasma figure, until I saw the films. Poor Gwendoline Christie.
I wouldn’t group Boba Fett or Darth Maul in with these. I would have loved if the Knights of Ren inspired a similar reaction as Fett or Maul. More wastage unfortunately.

Beat me too it, this is all disney does now. Create cool looking characters and barely use them.

That's a page from the Peter Jackson school of filmmaking for "The Hobbit". He created 13 separate, fantastic personalities for the dwarves but hardly used them at all, except for Balin, Dwalin, Thorin, and Kili and Fili (but their story ended up being really bad.) Bombur never even got a line! Nine hours of screen time and not one line.

But, yeah, the Knights of Ren were a huge disappointment. They should have been intimidating and evil, Kylo's henchmen who turn on him when he becomes Ben Solo. They should have been pretty heavily involved, yet we see them I think twice and never learn anything significant about them. They just look cool and fight a couple of times. That's it.

It seems the only purpose of KOR was to keep an eye on Kylo. What an disappointment.

It would have been so much better if Luke had lightsabered their asses in TLJ before he force projected himself into a force ghost. At least KOR would have been more critical to the plot this way.

Yeah, just a waste.

And memo for their toy selling department: More very cool potential figures that were almost a guaranteed buy for me that I can’t justify (like Phasma).

I kind of liked that the KoR were basically little wannabe rhymes with witches that got waxed by an actual cool character. And of course when that happens the waxer is the only one not in a mask. It felt a little like JJ saying, yeah, maybe the whole mask thing was a bit much, especially since it reduces one of the series’ most talented actors to basically doing cartoon voice over.

He gets a line in the extended editions, ha. There were great details (like them being toy-makers) that were cut entirely. Damn shame.

The Knights of Ren in this were the textbook definition of bad fan service. We didn't want to see them, we wanted to see them do something.

"Here you go, cousin!"
