But Order of the Phoenix still was a pretty good film that like every Harry Potter film opened to good reviews and good audience reception to most people who don't read the books. With Harry Potter films, people who don't read the book view the films more favorably. I liked all the Harry Potter films.

That doesn't really matter though. Your point was about studio involvement and the horrors of it, and I pointed out a situation where the result was the highest grossing film in a franchise.

I wonder if all those good reviews that we saw last week were based on the original footage or the theatrical cut.

Order of the Phoenix was butchered by the studio. Cut out nearly 45 minutes. Think it is the highest grossing Potter.
you mean teh Order of Phoenix that was 138 minutes long in the theater?

this is 2 hours and 13 minutes. now add 45 minutes and you get almost 3 hours.

there is a difference going from 3 hours to 2:15(Order of Phoenis) and going from 2:20 to 1:40(Airbender).

ohhh and every movie has footage around 3 hours and 2 hours and 30 minutes in the cuting room. this is normal.

the studio is the one financing the film, they are looking for return on their investment and the best ways to maximize that...sometimes that means changes, sometimes it means lots of marketing (which this film had)

Dear God some of you want to see the extended version of this movie? I waited in a f'n line to watch it at the 30 minute mark I was horrified none of my friends wanted to walk out. So I desperately tried to fall asleep. But failed.

I remember people complaining about X3, before the movie came out, people said the movie would suck because it was only like 105 minutes or something.

So, when the DVD was released, there were like 20 deleted scenes taken out of the movie and half of them still stunk as bad as the movie did. Adding in those extra 9-10 scenes or 8-10 minutes wouldn't have significantly moved the needle in overall execution and quality and the script that the movie had. Perhaps the movie would've been more well rounded, but it wasn't gonna turn into a significantly better movie. Ok,...in ridiculously rare cases does this happen (i.e., Daredevil director's cut, Kingdom of Heaven).

Unless they cut out in excess of 20 minutes of footage from this movie, I'm betting that this movie was just not that well made through and through. Running time probably wasn't the main contributor.

[/another rant against running time]

Well everyone seems to be really upset about the name pronunciation changes.

which is something I don't understand. We all pretty much new about the name pronounciations from the get go. I don't understand the complaint about it now. Which why I was able to get use to it. I already knew about it. So there's no reason for me have fanboy panic attack about it

Hey people, how did the crowd reacted in your viewing?

We all laughed at the end. And one shouted. "SUCKS!!!!!!" and I heard a little kid actually complaining to his mom like it was her fault the movie sucked. "Mom why? I hate you!"

LOL Priceless

I've never seen the cartoon and don't really care about them using different races or accents . I'm just saying I'm not too picky but is this movie really terrible??

a couple of my kung fu buddies who are HUGE Avatar fans saw this on opening night and said that it was just "okay" but they said it in a way that you can tell that they meant "it sucks". they just didn't have the heart to say it. i also kept in mind that these 2 guys actually enjoyed Ninja Assassin.

so it seems the biggest criticism is that there is no life or fun in this movie....did MNS even watch the show? he said he made this movie for and because of his kids.....so does that mean he has the most boring kids on Earth? geez...i dunno about y'all but if i'm going to make a film that features a bunch of kids and teens then i'd inject SOME kind of fun into it. the reviews are making it sound like George Lucas directed the actors.

I don't see this being salvaged ala Kingdom of Heaven from cut material. What was shown in the Kingdom of Heaven theatrical cut was very good, it just didn't make much sense and jumped around a lot because of all the cuts.

But if what you've got is garbage, just making a bigger pile isn't going to change the fact that it is still garbage.

I'm tempted to watch this movie just to see if it's as bad as people are saying.

So am I but also afraid of sitting there for two hours feeling really stupid for not listening . Yeah I'll probably go see it.

I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I won't pay for it. Especially since it's only available in 3d around where I live. I can't even find any places showing it in 2D.

G.I. Joe was a lot more coherent, and a lot of non-fans I know liked that movie a lot more than this one

is this the worst movie of the year?? probably not...'Killers' gets that honor, but it's probably going to make some of its money back...did 6 or 7 million last night...let's see how the weekend goes

but this is the first movie Ive been to this year that I saw multiple people walking out of
Yeah I liked GI Joe, I never watched the tv show but I thought it was a good action flick. It wasn't as bad as it was made out to be.

Has M. Night responded to the negative reaction yet?
Didn't he get mad at the critics about The Happening? i thought i red that somewhere/ Anyone know where i can find that article.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie this bad in theaters. As a huge fan of the show, besides all of the other obvious criticism, the one thing that frustrated me the most was how lame the bending looked.

In the show the bending looked like it was an extension of the character, they would move and the element would move with them and extend beyond them. In the movie there were scenes where the benders would do these pretty lame moves and then eventually a rock would move or a water bubble would form.

If everything else was the same, the horrendous acting, jumpy incoherent storytelling, etc, but the bending and fight scenes were at least cool looking and unique I could have forgiven this movie. But this has absolutely nothing going for it. I was never a big M. Night fan and didn't have much hope for this movie but somehow it managed to sink below my lowest of expectations.

I would have paid double to just watch the cartoon on the big screen.
