So M. Night took out the Kyoshi Warriors b/c he felt the audience couldn't deal with their departure and would have wanted more of them in Act 3? That seems ridiculous.

Is that the case with the show for anyone who watched Book 1 for the first time before seeing the movie?

If M. Night keeps up this mindset makes you wonder whose going to be left out of the next (possible) two sequels.

i always thought night was good with dialogue but man wtf was he thinking. That one scene when they are in the earth village. and Sokka says "we should go to each village and fight the fire nation, should we do this?" Aang(ong?) "ya we should".

and the intro of the movie, why oh why didnt he just take the exact wording of the damn intro in the cartoon and use it in the movie. no he had to reword it to sound like crap and then completely take out any mention of the fire nation's war. And the bending was just awkward at times, it seemed very slow. When Zuko and Katara had their mini fight, all of Zuko's attacks took way to long. Katara couldve just put out his minifire before he even had a chance to bend anything.

this movie just really pisses me off because it had the potential to be such a amazing movie. I mean the cartoon was EPIC, this movie should have been 2 and a half hours long at least.

Well like I said, personally I didn't like the first half of season 1 as much as i did the rest of the series, so I would really like to see a live-action version of them.

But for those who saw it, what role did Avatar Roku play? Is he even in the film or just mentioned?

The fire nation not even been able to create fire was the first bad news I received on this film and it just kept going down hill after that. I mean, the fact they could do that is what made them a viable threat on the show and is why the "Day of Black Sun" was such a huge deal.

Shyamalan is full of hot air when it comes to whether or not a "director's cut" exists. Either he's obligated to make excuses for why the studio made him butcher it, or he is trying to make the fans crave the director's cut so much that they'll be begging for it with ridiculous phrases like "the footage I cut was so good that it made the rest of the film seem disappointing, so I decided to just cut it all out and make the whole thing disappointing."

The first few pages of this thread is full of "I told you so's".

so essentially, they have a s**t director/writer who's only done one good movie to date (Unbreakable), who relies on the same stupid gimmick which has gotten worse and worse in every movie he's done (the twist ending), doing an adaptation of a s**ty anime show from a s**ty network who are pretty much notorious for canceling every good show that comes on (Invader Zim, etc.) in favor of mindless, unfunny garbage...yeah, sounds like a real winner

when he did the same **** it was wrong. now he wants to make it different and again it is not right.

:csad:

*puts on Darth Vader mask*
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Why? WHY?
When they got a good thing going, nickelodeon always has to screw it up.
I expect Avatar to go downhill after the film comes out...it's what always happens when Nickelodeon makes a film of a still running TV series.
ARGH!!! If was any one but M. Night, I'd be somewhat optimistic.

I don't see how you can bring Avatar to the screen as a live action film...It just doesn't seem to work for me.
And to answer your question Matt, no I don't think it is his style.

yeah, it would...but Shamalongadingdong will screw it up.

I seriously doubt Night has anything to do with directing these but it could be good having his name behind it for the sake of the property being taken relatively seriously. And he simply doesn't have the chops to direct a dynamic action story like this. His camera shots and direction is extremely boring and not suited to anime-like cartoons. But again putting his name behind it may give the project weight similar to Spielberg backing Transformers.

why people still defend shyamamlanana i'll never know. he's had maybe, maybe two good movies (6th sense and unbreakable) and i say maybe because both were good stories, and twists, but were both drawn out, too long and kind of boring... he's made 3 bad movies in a row, each getting worse and worse, and he's probably the most pretentious director of our time.

so yeah, i could care less what he's doing next.

I agree that Sixth Sense and Sings were good. So was Unbreakable. But M. Night has lost it. It's like saying "I'm going to see the next DePalma films because several years ago he made a handful of good ones." Neither man is a good director any longer, IMO. And I won't be paying to see anything in theaters either directs. M. Night's last two films, both of which I saw, were absolutely terrible.

The direction in his last couple of films was poor, very poor. I have seen the show and I hate it, as I do most of 'these' kind. So all that tells me is that M. Night will be directing a film based off of poor source material.

Next.

Wasn't in it aside from the statue, isn't mentioned, his dragon's there, but never said to be his dragon.

Yes, the dialogue made me so angry. The first half of the movie they seemed liked they were just narrating what they were doing and what they intended to do. It got a little better after that, but goodness . and yeah, the intro was pretty awful, but all of Katara's narration was stupid and lazy. And like, the earthbending "prison" they were flailing all over and eventually you see a pebble, and then a little more after that, it was awful.

Don't you just love how the people who made the golden compass, thought it was going to be a big hit and ended the flop-ass movie with a never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger ending? Well, this is what's going to happen to this movie.

I can only see it this certain way and I don’t know how to think in another language. I think these are exactly the visions that are in my head, so I don’t know how to adjust it without being me.

Translation, don't get Shyamalan for epic scale, fun, fantasy, adventure movies again.

This movie, that movie, Jumper, and all the rest who get a head of themselves by instantly believing their first movie will be good enough.

wow... I don't even remember saying that stuff. But I guess I was right, even though before the movie my hopes were up. But after what my friends said, who are huge fans of the show, have said about it, I'm not even going to see it in the theater at all, and rent the DVD to see how bad it really is.

you were right.

you can not bring the exact cartoon into live action. the humor would not work. people can hide all they want and now say that everything different fro mM Night version would work. wrong.

why is the movie bad? who knows. but the cartoon humor would not work.

Yeah, that's a load of garbage. There was nothing overly cartoony about the humor, and there's no reason why it couldn't have worked.

Yes it would. The cartoon humor works on three levels.

The out right adorable (Aang).

The cynical (Watching Sokka make a fool out of himself and everyone pointing it out).

And the wise (Iroh and his tea).

Iroh being nonplussed and bringing up tea wouldn't work?

Sokka trying but failing miserably wouldn't work?

Having Aang mentioning Penguin sledding, attempt to impress Katara, or dress up like an old man wouldn't work?

the humor wouldnt work in a live action movie FOR ADULTS.

every time a similar movie had this kind of humor it bombed. of course the fans denied it all. denial.

its normal

I suggest you go and watch the first two Harry Potter films which are full of similar humor. You know the ones that feature a flying car getting its ass kicked by a tree, weird tasting candy, a talking hat and a giant dog being wooed to sleep by music. One that featured Gilderoy Lockhart and Dobby.

Explain how it is in anyway different. Please do. The only one in denial is you.

That really sucks. I remember seeing on IMDB that he was going to be in the movie but i guess they cut him out too, which is a shame because he was really an important guide for Aang. I heard they never said Avatar either, so what was Aang referred to, the messiah or something?

It's only different for you because you had some delusional expectation that this movie would be somehow a mature, adult-geared film.

i didnt expect teh movie to be adult geared.

its a summer popcorn movie. cartoon humor doesnt work in those movies. because to adults its campy.
