This film or whatever it is, felt like a movie trailer for a 6 hour movie. It was the cliff notes of movies! Instead of shooting scenes about what happened before, the back story, they just tell you about them, to move the film faster. Move it faster and faster and faster. Like I said the Cliff notes version. I'm not talking about how they left out the hours of story from the animated series. No, this film as it is, the basic story is rushed to quickly, it's like they wanted to tell it as fast as they could! It was a race to the finish! How fast can we tell it!

I accidentally gave this thing a 4, it shouldn't be voted on as a movie, it's a movie trailer!

Oh and the only guy who can fire bend within himself is uncle Iroh?

So when Aang sorry not Ong, fights the Fire Lord, his only threat to Aang is that he can fire bend without the aid of an external flame source? Watch out Aang he can fire bend now like all the other fire benders could in the TV show from the beginning!

I rather enjoyed the film. The showing I went to on Monday... well every showing that day sold out. It was interesting considering the reviews.

Considering that his last several films have been flops, I don't think that M Night can throw his weight around. However, he has gone on record as saying that he did look for the best actors to play the roles, but that still doesn't make the casting right.

Hold on... How does casting the best actors to play the roles not be the right casting?

I can't recall where I've seen the interview about BTILC where they talked about the studio have a problem with the casting of Asian actors in the Asian roles. If I ever come across the interview are post a link.

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. It doesn't really matter since the movie was filmed in 1985 (came out 1986). That's a quarter of century ago. The socio-political climate would likely have changed since then and so, attitudes back then may not reflect current attitudes as it's a whole new generation of filmmakers.

Damn, you guys are late.. :p

I rounded up to 7/10

I've seen much better movies that didn't leave me quite as entertained...if that makes sense. I tried to squeeze as much enjoyment out of the movie and I subconsciously avoided the worse parts of the movie, but I know they're there.

I'll probably sneak in and watch it a second time on Friday night (after I watch Despicable Me), and see if the movie gets worse or better a second time around.

So even though M. Night made Aang, Sokka and Iroh's name sound like their suppose to, I guess he didn't anticipate that fans just don't give a care.

Maybe if they get a different director on board for a sequel and they don't care for this "correct" pronunciation, the names will go back to sounding like they did in the show.

Dude you can't make a movie showing every little thing that happened. You people are like Star Wars fans complaining how the Clone Wars TV Show was better than the Preguel trilogy. Tv shows give you more time to develop relationships thats a very simple concept. Movies are made to hit big events in a timeline momentous occasions that leave an impact on the lives of the characters in the story. To expect anything else is foolish but I understand opinions are like *******s everybody has one.

Iroh is a master firebender who's nickname is the dragon of the west M.Night mentioned all the master firebenders will be able to bend without a source. As mentioned by Zuko, Azula is a firebending prodigy who I'm sure will be bending without a source. What they did with firebenders needing a source is just even up the game. It was a huge flaw in the Tv show that M. Night fixed.

Anyone been watching Avatar Extras on Nickelodeon? They're halfway through the first season. Basically it's like watching a DVD with little fun facts popping up throughout the episodes..

Maybe he should have worried about making a concise script and dialogue that didn't sound like someone chewing rusty nails instead of worrying about the Fire Nations unfair advantage towards the other nations which was sort of the point that Mike and Bryan were trying to get across.

It was the entire "With powers comes great responsibility" mantra only that the FN decided to rage war on the other nations to gain complete dominance.

If anything this was a great allegory to actual history (Roman, Persian, British, American powers). If human history has proven anything is that "fairness" in terms of power is rarely part of the equation when you have the ability to expand or oppress.

Anyway that was the least of this movies problems. I for one don't care that the change was made as the movie had far more detrimental flaws than a plot point change which now seems rather redundant and pointless to the overall quality of the movie.

I watched it on Nicktoons last month, pretty neat!

You do know that Goku is an Alien Therefor has no race?

So is Superman, but I don't see no non white actors being cast to play him.

There is a Black Nick Fury in the comics

That's the Ultimate version, NOT the original version. Hell, judging by the rapidly falling sales on the Ultimate comics, I think that it is a safe bet that Ultimate Nick Fury's days are numbered in the comics.

The Holocaust isn't the equivalent to racism, that's anti-Semitism which had existed hundred of years before Nazi Germany.

WOW, message board posters never cease to amaze me by some of the dumb things they say. I see you completely missed my point.

It was inspired by many cultures. And that doesn't mean the characters were only of those ethnicities. Many characters had no clear race: Aang, Ty Lee, Suki, Bumi, Earthbender wrestlers, Jet (as well as many of his gang members), the Mechanic, his son, and a bunch of others.

And how many of those various cultures were European and black African?

You're saying white people can't play racially ambiguous characters.

But the characters were not racially ambiguous.

It's the lag's fault... :csad:

Firebending without a source is not a flaw of the cartoon. If anything, it made the Fire Nation a viable threat to the other nations. It was what made the Day of Black sun a big deal, and Sozin's comet and even bigger deal. Firebending without a source was one of the keys to success for the show.

That's how I got into the cartoon :) ... and hyped for the movie :(

I started watching Season 1 on DVD again. After seeing the movie, and being so disappointed, I figured I should re-watch to rid of the depression. It's such an amazing show... and the movie is just "Meh, it's okay."

I don't even blame the actors as they almost had nothing to work with.

I especially feel for Noah Ringer who demonstrates he has a ton of potential but is given a piece of turd dialogue and direction to work with.

The most emotional moment for me was the last 10 minutes of the film and that was almost all thanks to Ringers facial expressions making me actually care for him.

Ringer is full of charisma and talent and its obvious from the interviews and even moments in the film where he is allowed to breath and not held back by Nights terrible direction or shoddy script.

What I'm hoping at this point is for it to somehow make enough money to warrant a sequel and for Paramount to say "See yah later" to M. Night and hire someone far more competent for directing and writing.

Really hope they keep Ringer as I still think he is perfect for the role.

i think Noah has potential but needs an acting coach. If he keeps on going like this, he'll be the next Jake Lloyd. And nobody wants to be Jack Lloyd, not even Jack Lloyd himself.

Everybody turned in a Jake Lloyd performance which is more of a testament to the poor direction than anything with the actors themselves.

But an acting coach wouldn't be a bad idea to refine his acting but a better director IMO would have made all the difference in the world.

Jake Lloyd is a far worse actor than Ringer as in his acting was irreparable from the start.

And nobody wants to be Jack Lloyd, not even Jack Lloyd himself.

LMAO

So true. Have you seen that somewhat recent interview in which they ask him about TPM?

Its so painful to watch.

You compared racism to the Holocaust which is inaccurate.

But back to your point, you do need to work in the business to really know about it. Otherwise, it's just an outside perception which doesn't tell you everything. What if very few Asian actors auditioned and those that did were not impressive? Is that racist?

And how many of those various cultures were European and black African?
Europeans were one. Much of the Fire Nation technology was similar to early 20th century European technology: the ships, tanks, and war balloons (ie zeppelins). I thought Jet was a reference to Robin Hood. The Swamp waterbenders sure weren't Asian. The Pirates were much more similar to European pirates than Asian pirates. The Library could have been a reference to the Library of Alexandria (Greek) and the sketch Sokka had of the library looked like Byzantine architecture. The Sun Warriors were based off of the Aztecs or another Mesoamerican group.

So to say the series was only inspired by Asian cultures is just inaccurate.

But the characters were not racially ambiguous.
Many were.

I thought in the series the sun was the source for fire bending?
