Boxofficemojo is a pretty accurate source for budget information, and, sequel talk is not talk anymore, they have writers and they have secured Stephen Sommers as director.

More importantly the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies are huge money makers.

The first one made over $200 million Domestic/ over $361 million WW with a $60 million budget.

The 2nd one made also made over $200 million domestic/over $443 million WW with a $75 million budget.

Expect to see many more Alvin and the Chipmunk movies. The Last Airbender not so much.

GI Joe made $300 million WW on a $175 million budget. I don't know how much Hasbro which is trying to be the new Marvel studios has to do with GI Joe getting a sequel because the numbers of the first film does not scream success to me.

225 worlwide on a budget of 150-200 is in no way enough for a sequel . you add the bad reviews and this baby is already gone.

The producer said that they finished under budget at about 97 million with a original budget of 100 million. I'm not really sure who to believe, but I wonder how much they wasted on the 25 minutes of finished film that were removed plus the additional reshoots to make up the shorter runtime. Not to mention that POS 3D transfer, but I kind of doubt they spent much on that.

At any rate, if this movie by some miracle gets a sequel, I will feel a big sense of relief if Shyamalan does not direct it. If they must they can give him an exec producer credit since he made the first one and picked the cast, but even that is being generous to him. He seriously should stop putting his name on movie promo material, because all it does is scare people away. In the three times I've seen the trailer for Devil, the audience laughed when his name showed up. Personally, I think Christopher Columbus would be a much more appropriate choice. I know he's not terribly well liked, but I'd trust him to get the job done. If they can get someone better that's great, but Columbus is pretty much the lowest I think I'd settle for.

Considering most of the movie didn't even have any noticeable 3D, I still doubt they spent much. Chances are they only made a few minutes of the film 3D and just "pushed the screen back" for the rest.

I'm amazed that sequel talk is still on the table, both from fans and the studio rumor mill. If, god forbid, they did go ahead with the sequel, it would probably get a slashed budget and almost certainly would score less at the box office. And even if it was good, it still wouldn't make the first movie not suck.

lol, i really did try to like the movie tho. as soon as i got outa the theater i told my friend who was with me he should ignore the 1st half completly and that since the 2nd half had some cool parts it was an ok movie.

then when i got home and processed everything thing i was like "y the crap was i trying to defend this?"

unforunately pilgrim is doing pretty terrible at the box office. The Last Airbender failed in my opinion becuz of the epicly short run time, for a movie like the last airbender u need 2hrs + to tell that story effectively. Im not gonna lie, there were moments in that film where i had chills, but it kills me that they miscasted some characters pretty horribly, mostly the villains such as Zhao were terribly miscasted. and characters like Zuko did not get enough screen time. The movie made its budget back and more so im hoping they greenlight the sequel and find a new director and writer to pen the sequels. m night clearly cannot write movies with more than 3 main characters.

I agree with you, it has some parts that are actually pretty cool, that they got straight out of the series, I loved the whole Blue Spirit secuence. Zhao and the Fire Lord were terribly miscast and they screwed up with our beloved uncle Iroh.

Whoever they get to direct the sequel, I hope that they direct the action scenes in the same way M. Night directed them. I love the long flowing takes, no cuts, no stupid terrible shaky cam.

Agreed i dont get the hate toward these movie's. I love alvin and the chipmunks and i love seeing these guys in live action. I guess it's the kid in me.

I don't think they had a plan for what exactly the earthbenders were doing when they filmed that. i mean, they prolly thought the dance looked cool and weren't thinking about what effects it would have. change around the effects so that every time they were flipping and spinning they were really moving rocks to block fire attacks and tha make the final boulder much bigger and less like a smooth stone from a river, and u actually hav some pretty decent action going on. it just seems like whoever storyboarded/directed the effects was asleep for half the time. I mean really u can't let anything bend/move until the camera moves 1st? suck!

Yea literally in the show they made it look badass . The whole firebender's thing was stupid. If katara was smart she would have put out the fire as soon as zuko droped the torch. The fire camp was just stupid. When he did that wierd movement and shot the fire and it was going as slow as it could possibly can i just lol'ed.

Another funny bending scene was when Aang was creating that mid-size tornado at the Northern Water Tribe. It's ridiculous how much he had to do to create that thing.
Aang better learn how to bend faster if wants to keep up with the Firelord in the final showdown.
