The Lookout

Ah man. Why the mess is this thread only two pages? Heroic bump.

The film is ridiculously well made. The story, cast, direction, it has it all.
If anything, I'm really really really looking forward to Matthew Goode in Watchmen now. As good as Joseph Gorden-Levitt was, which was a lot of good, I enjoyed Matthew Goode's character more.

Great stuff.

Thanks for bumping it, I didn't see this thread before.

This movie was great. :up::up:

He was great in this.....great villain.

Also you would think he was from the US, he throws his accent beautifully.

I loved Matthew Goode's character. Wonderful villian.

FINALLY saw this tonight, easily top 5 of 2007 for me, tightly directed with a crackling script, it mixed a character drama with a heist thriller perfectly.

JGL was outstanding in the lead and Jeff Daniels in his best role in years, Isla Fisher made the most of her few scenes, turning the fantastically named Luvlee Lemons into a kinda naive and sad femme fatale of sorts. Special mention to Matthew Goode though, he made Gary a menacing and yet darkly charismatic villain.

I for one cannot wait to see what Scott Frank writes/directs next.

9/10

I agree wholeheartedly. But I want to mention that I love the score as well!

I really loved Jeff's role. I also loved that he wasn't the typical mentor.

I thought you would dig it. I agree completely about JGL he was great in that role. He played Chris great, really showed how his character at one point was the most popular kid in town and then after the accident became almost forgotten. Once a tremendous athlete and now he can barely do day to day activites. I thought this was his best role to date. I loved the end when [BLACKOUT]he takes out Gary with that shotgun, that was great, I loved the little shoelace on the bag to remember, great stuff. Gary had no clue he had it in him. [/BLACKOUT]Matthew Goode is another exceptional part of this and a tremendous actor in his own right. He went from Match Point to this, two completely different roles and played both quite well. Jeff Daniels I thought could have gotten a nomination. Like you said this was his best role in years and he really showed what a good actor he really is, plus he has a pretty comedic side we haven't seen in years.

I liked how JGL showed the range of emotions that went through Chris, each one believable and raw, he could go from a sorrowful figure trying hard to angry and bitter to earnest and smart to all stops in between. I also thought Isla Fisher did great, making Luvlee interesting in a brief amount of screen time, wish we found out more about her. Goode i think stepped out onto to center stage as a lead man candidate in this movie.

Love this move. I'm a fan of Levitt's work, "Brick" was an awesome movie and one I watch whenever it's on. The Lookout delivers, it also has a great soundtrack (which I listen to on Rhapsody :o) I like it that much.

Here are some tribute vids for the movie that are cool:

For anyone who hasn't seen it do yet, do so.

did you really just bump a 17 month old thread?
I don't see why that should be a big deal. It's a solid film, he wanted to express his thoughts on it. So what if it's an older thread, this movie could use more attention.

JGL is not only a major talent, he really knows how to pick his movies. Brick, The Lookout, 500 Days of Summer, Nolan's upcoming Inception. Not to mention 10 Things I Hate About You, which is a thoroughly underrated romantic comedy.

The Lookout is such a brilliant thriller. It's like a stick of dynamite with a long fuse. A slow steady build-up to an explosive climax. Matthew Goode, Isla Fisher, and Jeff Daniels are so good in their supporting roles, especially Goode.
