Where has it said it shoots next dec. I read it is next sept for its start. And like I said it still gives us a yr for post work. They will need x amount of months to get cast done. They will need time do pre production. And they need to hire crew and props costume sets take months to go. I expect it to go about like how civil war shoot been going.

I don't remember exactly where I heard that the IW duology would start filming in December, but I do remember reading about it.

However, let's assume for a moment that IW does in fact start filming in September of next year; if we follow your timetable of an April start-date for shooting on the solo Spidey film, said film wouldn't finish until IW's filming is supposed to start.

This could be an issue not only for Tom Holland (since he could very conceivably end up going straight from the set of the solo film to the set of IW without any 'down-time' whatsoever and could potentially end up spending most of the following 9 months on said set, increasing the likelihood of him 'burning out'), but also for Kevin Feige due to his dual role as the President/Chief Creative Officer for Marvel Studios and an EP on IW AND as a Producer on the solo Spidey film.

Well I do not expect solo to dtsrt to at least early next yr. As we are still early on development. We need many months for casting crewing making all sets costumes props for shoot. So spring next yr start still seems more likely deal.

If pre-production on the solo film began in earnest within the next month or so, it could very easily start filming as early as this December or next January.

We'll see what happens, though.

Getting back on the topic at hand, Tom Holland's casting as Peter Parker has cemented Maise Williams and Hailee Steinfeld as my top 2 choices for Mary Jane Watson.

i'd rather the movie have liz allen and betty brant as the main potential love interest characters. but a mary jane cameo turning up at the end "face it tiger you hit the jackpot" moment would be cool.

this would distinguish it from the spider-man and amazing spider-man series. be more comic accurate. establish peter as having more troubles since those wouldn't work out anyway.

Erin Moriarty is already in Jessica Jones. I liked her look though.

Coming from someone who's a fan of Maisie Williams, I'm going to be frank with you. I don't see her as Mary Jane Watson. I'd love to see her in the MCU, but I'm extremely hesitant in imagining her as MJ.

As for Hailee, while she wouldn't be my first choice, I could see her being cast alongside Asa as Peter. The two of them have a strong chemistry together, which could potentially work... albeit as off-kilter re-imaginations of both characters. Since Tom got the role, I really don't see her working in the role. Hailee's a great actress, as proven by her performance in True Grit, but I'm not seeing her as MJ.

My personal favorites right now are Annasophia Robb (pipe-dream casting), Liana Liberato, Madison Davenport and maybe Odeya Rush. I'm sure that there's some other options out there that could great too, but I'm not thinking of 'em yet. Of the lot that I've named so far, I think Liana or Madison are probably both the most realistic and best-fitting options for the role.

 This.

^ I'm basing my choices of Maisie and Hailee for MJ on their acting skills rather than on whether or not they match a particular 'image' of the character.

Having said that, if I WERE going to try and 'match' some actresses to a particular 'image'/'version' of the character, my choices would be Lily Collins (for a 616-based take on the character) and the fairly unknown Abby Ross (for an Ultimate Universe-based take on the character).

^ Not attacking your choices, but just because they're good actresses doesn't automatically make them right for MJ.

I personally can't see Hailee as MJ, same goes Maisie (albeit a bit more). Again, not attacking your choices.

A good actor can 'morph' him or herself to fit a role, which is why I looked at acting skill moreso than 'look'.

I love acting skills too, believe it or not. Hence why I'm not fond of the idea of someone like Bella Thorne in the role, even if she's attractive. She doesn't seem to have the acting chops that would be needed for MJ. Maisie and Hailee are indeed insanely gifted actresses, but I'm not sure that either of them would be the right fit for the character.

Lily Collins isn't a bad choice, but she's twenty-six. I'm confident she won't be on Marvel and Sony's radar, especially since she'd be working alongside a nineteen year old love interest in a film where both are playing high school students. Hell, Annasophia is twenty-two (which is a much easier fit and age difference) and I still consider her a pipe-dream casting.

That said, Abby Ross... I haven't seen her in anything, but she's eighteen years old and looks like she could work very well in the part. Since acting chops are a big deal for you, Digific, do you think that Ross would do well alongside Tom?

For everyone else, here's a photo of her for reference.

(Damn imdb photos being difficult to work with)

Unless you're referring to plastic surgery, you've vastly overestimating the capabilities of makeup.

And I'd rather not run into another Shailene situation.

Me personally I don't think they should go for someone who has been acting since they were a child. I hate to be the one to tell it like it is, but if they were a child star they probably will go off the rails at some point. Its basic psychology 101. Kirsten Dunst, while not being the worst case scenario, does at least make a star... troublesome to say the least.

Which essentially means they will be good to go on the first one, but then their star will pick up, they'll do the whole hollywood thing then they'll be completely burnt out by the 2nd and 3rd film. They will be merely a shadow of what they were in the 1st film. Its like hiring a young Lindsay Lohan. Looks good on paper, but if youre smart, you'll see whats coming.

I'd say hire an actress who is totally fresh, possibly unknown but who shows lots of promise.....

So.... no-one who we could put our bets on.

I'm going to have to unfortunately beg off answering this question because I'm not familiar enough with Tom to answer it.

As far as Abby goes, though, go check out her performances as young Emma Swan in the episodes "Snow Drifts" (3x22), "Breaking Glass" (4x05), "Shattered Sight" (4x11), "Best Laid Plans" (4x17), and "Lily" (4x20) for an example of her talents.

I just saw a clip of her from one of those episodes on YouTube. I was actually pretty impressed by her in that clip, especially since when last I watched OUAT, the only really great actor that got to use their acting chops on the show was Robert Carlyle.

Even if she weren't necessarily as talented an actor as Tom is, I think the key thing would have to be the chemistry between whoever ends up being Mary Jane and Tom. From the clip that I saw, Abby at least seems like she can hold her own in a film.

^ The thing I like most about Abby's performances in Once Upon a Time is that she's completely believable as a younger version of Jennifer Morrison's adult Emma Swan, which isn't as easy a feat to accomplish as it might sound.

Yeah, I'm noticing that from the clips I'm seeing of her. While I think Carlyle generally stole the show when I used to watch OUAT, I always felt that Morrison was one of the few other leads that could consistently hold her own against him acting-wise (the two others being Regina and Belle, though the latter was dreadfully underused).

The actors for Charming and Snow though... ugh.

I'm thinking Abby would be a great pick too. Good call there, Digific! Good call.

Edits: I think she would be a pretty good choice.
