They're teasing the appearance of the real Mandarin. The Leader and The Red Skull are currently MIA and Loki secretly rules Asgard. How cool would it be if the arch enemies of The Avengers returned and formed an alliance with Thanos? :wow:

I really don't think the Mandarin tease was ever meant to go anywhere.

Quite cool, actually. But hell, it'd be just as cool to see in Civil War too.

I think there's a stronger chance for the Masters to appear in Infinity War. Zemo will probably be in Civil War, Amora and Skurge in Ragnarok, Abomination and/or Leader are out there somewhere, Yellowjacket's in Ant-Man and whoever else they might add to the group. Maybe Ultron could even have a hand in getting them together. They'd be great villains for Infinity War Part 1.

Very cool indeed! Also abomination is still active and useable. I would definitely love to see a super villian team versus a superhero team.

That said I don't love the name. I would probably call them the dark avengers. Maybe use justin hammer in the Norman Osborn role. Sam Rockwell was in jail to the king so I'm sure he won't mind reprising the role

I hope Thanos uses his children and the black order as "mid-level bosses" instead of a Masters of Evil

It would be mega-awesome if the Masters are what initially bring the Avengers back together at the beginning of Infinity War, similar to how Hydra will assemble them in Age of Ultron.

But I don't think they'll be called The Masters of Evil in the MCU. The Masters or The Cabal most likely.

Liberators maybe

But I can totally imagine someone calling them that as a joke... "Zemo and his 'Masters of Evil'"

Infinity War is going to packed enough as is. Including the Masters in Infinity War is going to take away from Thanos, and Thanos being the main villain in the Masters' first appearance will take away from them.

I think it would be better to save them for Phase 4.

I never did like the modern concept of Thanos having a stable roster of allies or quirky miniboss squads, like the generic overlord villian that he is nowadays. I loved that he used to be an indepedent villain that had at the most a bunch of robotic yes men for help, or temporary alliances that lasted only as long as the agenda he sought them out for.

Fair enough. Save it for Avengers 4 I guess to raise the stakes with Thanos defeated.

At a set Visit for Civil War, it was confirmed Zemo will have a larger role in a future movie.

Adding to that, Marvel is setting up the Masters of Evil and Thunderbolts in the Avengers Assemble cartoon as well as giving them their own DLC packs for the Lego Avengers game. That's in addition to Zemo and the Masters of Evil being the main villains in the Standoff comic event, with a new Thunderbolts series launching in the aftermath. Marvel is suddenly giving the team a very large push, and I think it's ahead of a movie debut.

What if Civil War ends with the Avengers disbanding, and Infinity War starts with Zemo and the Thunderbolts posing as a new team of heroes to replace them?
