The Matrix Resurrections

I don't understand why
they kept naming the Matrix a game while showing footage of the movie, how or why is it a game? It doesn't make sense to me

Looked like a virtual reality game
Yeah but it was shown as the Matrix movie we know. It sort of makes sense? But I thought having the original trilogy as actual movies inside the matrix was just as interesting

Is there plans for a sequel? The new characters introduced really did nothing for me. Not their faults, most of them had next to no screen time. But they also kinda lacked a cool aesthetic too, aside from Buggs.

I'm hearing it's doing terrible at the box office too. What are the numbers?

Game turned into a multimedia franchise.

Oof! What a mind-numbingly boring and useless movie. Took forever to get started, and when it finally did, it didn't deliver much.

The Matrix is officially in the same boat as the Terminator franchise, just let it end.

I didn’t find any parts of this movie to be ultra-woke so I’m curious why some people thought that.

I've stayed away from the reviews and Youtube videos so far, but if I had to guess
some people are probably pissed that they made Trinity stronger than Neo in the end. So now she's basically "The One," or they both are. That's not going to play well with a certain crowd.

I think Laurence Fishburne could've been in this. I wonder if Lana has a problem with him... Also it's a real shame they couldn't get Hugo Weaving. It just doesn't have the same impact without him.

Have to say, ViewerAnon seems to have hit the nail on the head with his prediction of what the reception would be back with hits tweet in June:

"THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS screened this afternoon and it is: weird, meta, engrossing, surprisingly funny, and ambitious to a fault. I expect WOM to be wildly mixed but the people who love it will *love* it."

The trend of nearly anybody whose opinion I respect digging this film is continuing on Twitter. Pretty uncanny. Trying to keep my expectations reasonably in check.

I agree. I assumed the reason Fishburne and Hugo were not in it was because of the extensive action sequences and tough choreography... Definitely wasn't the reason! Out of shape Fishburne could have done all of that stuff that was in the film for Morpheus. Same with Hugo.

As far as Trinity
being stronger, I don't see that. Especially torwards the end. It seems more like team work, they give each other the strength. So idk.

This is what you reap when you put premium products straight to streaming first. They aren't as special anymore. They maintained this stupid release strategy long past it making any type of feasible sense. It doesn't even need to be a 6-week window. Give it 4 weeks at least. Theater owners likely would've understood and dealth with that.

The Catrix indeed.

Personally I think WB lucked out with the strategy. Their entire 2021 slate was pretty bad with the exception of Dune.

I think Weaving had some scheduling issues with filming another movie, but Fishburne was never even asked to return. You could've easily had
old fat Morpheus in Io :D He didn’t have to be in shape like Neo and Trinity

About Trinity
at the end with NPH, I thought that was all her. But I could be wrong.

One thing I didn't like about the final act was
Neo spamming his one move.

Given that hbo max has surpassed Disney plus and Netflix in terms of subs in the US I’d say WB is pretty happy. People talking about how they lost money releasing these movies on Max can’t seem to accept that.

Pretty sure HBOMax has nowhere near what Disney and Netflix have.

Maybe I missed it but

In the sequence where they explain how they are going to get Trinity’s body out and we see it happening, Morpheus sneaks in through a vent. Then Bugs just flies in on Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. So why the heck didn’t Morpheus just come in with her? Why the fancy subterfuge to get past the squids?

I didn’t like the game aspect, I wish the original meta fan theory of The Matrix tricking Mr. Anderson in assuming he’s an actor who starred in the film trilogy called The Matrix, etc. - this would have played better with the whole “seeing footage within this film’s universe.

I never thought she was stronger. The Analyst constructed the new Matrix around them so once they were "red-pilled" they slowly learned to manipulate it. Neo with bullets and Trinity with flight. Eventually we see both are now "The One".

Honestly thought the Machines tricked Neo into becoming the new The Architect of The Matrix by making him a game developer and used Smith and NPH to monitor him.

I follow a lot of people that like the movie a lot. I wish I liked it as much as they did. I kind of get it: they dig some of the conceptual ambitions, the lack of self-seriousness, the sentiment (which was nice but didn't do a ton for me personally just cuz I don't care a ton about the Neo+Trinity relationship).

I don't hate the film, in fact I liked a lot of what it was going for, but I think the script needed a pretty critical final draft and the technical credits just weren't up to snuff for a Matrix movie, imo.
