The Matrix Resurrections

I am facepalming so hard right now that they're really about to dump this movie on HBO Max when there's so much hype, but that's still awesome to see. Regardless of whatever this does at the Box Office, this still shows WB that there's a ton of interest in the franchise.

I want the Matrix to continue on after this in some form. The Animatrix was a beautiful and very underrated film and it shows that this series can work in multiple forms.

A little green-ish color correction and it will look just like the other Matrix movies.
The movie does look great, visually.
I wonder if they have purposely left out the green tinting from this footage so that we don't know for sure what is matrix and what is real life in the trailer.

Some have noted that the colors we see match less the classic Matrix and more the way the Matrix world looked after Neo destroyed Smith and the Matrix was reset/reborn for those AI and humans still in it.

So it makes sense it doesn't look like the old Matrix... Because it isn't, it is the Matrix we saw for a very short time at the end of the third film.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the green tint only added for the sequels then retroactively changed for the first film’s Blu-ray?

Yes. And then the new 4k release brought the films original color palette back.

My current hairbrained theory, not based on any spoilers but on reports of how meta this is going to be, is that what we're seeing with Neo is another layer of simulation within the matrix where The Matrix exists as a movie and Thomas Anderson is the actor that starred in it. It would explain how people are somehow watching the original film in the trailer, and could also explain Jonathan Groff's character as a (talent) agent consulting his client about going "back to the Matrix". Maybe Yahya's character is another actor playing Morpheus in the in-simulation reboot of the franchise. It would be another way for the machines to keep Neo and the others controlled by making them believe their previous adventures weren't real. I know I'm spit-balling here, but I keep coming back to that line Cypher says to Agent Smith. "I wanna be rich. Someone important, like an actor."

Between the original color grading and the new Atmos track, very few 4K Disc releases have been as revelatory as The Matrix's upgrade. Sounds stupid, but the bit that blew my mind was during the scene where Morpheus explains The Matrix in the White Void, there are no footsteps heard until they load up the set of the state of the Real World.

For ages I thought I just had faulty memory. I'm glad it has since been restored to its look upon release. If they wanted to change things for continuity I'd have been more curious to see the sequels look less oppressively green.

Not entirely. Majority of 4K version has theatrical colors (or close), but it added new colors to some action scenes. For example the lobby shooting, the rooftop battle and the copter escape, Trinity escape... They have new heavy cyan push, which wasn't in the theatrical version.

Yup. i noticed this myself too. So damn cool!

True, but it's close enough I think.

Really liked the first 2 films, the action in those films is amazing, also the story from Reloaded was still intresting. This new film looks to have some meta moments as seen in the trailer, but what more can they bring to make this sequel worth it, thats the question.

Is it going to be as The Force Awakens thats mostly a remake of A New Hope? Lets hope not and give the fans something really special again.

The MATRIX Resurrections - Domestic Trailer 1 - 8K UHD NO LOGO NO BLACK BARS

Question for anyone who knows. Is this a legit 8k/4k version or did someone just uprez it? It does look clearer to me. I never understand how 4k trailers get released and why the studio doesn't officially post it.

Yeah, I still can't wrap my head around this, especially after what happened with The Suicide Squad's box office. I guess WB is determined to stick to their guns with this 2021 release strategy, but you would think that with over 3 months to go and with how much box office potential a new ****ing Matrix movie would have (especially after seeing how good this looks), that they would reconsider at this point. This just automatically will make a significant dent in the film's box office potential.

It's even worse for Dune, a film that probably has a higher budget and was already likely to be considered a "box office flop" even in normal, pre-COVID times.

An easy adjustment/compromise for this strategy would be to release the films in theaters only and then drop them on HBO Max for free after 30 days.

It's so short-sighed that they announced it for the entire slate rather than taking a wait and see approach. I guess at this point it would look bad for them to go back on their selling point for HBO Max and maybe risk losing subscribers, so they're just going all in. Just a colossally bad decision that is so self-destructive.

Really hope this doesn't sour Lana from working with WB again if she had more ideas in store, cause I read that she was pushing for theatrical exclusive like Denis was.

In hindsight, they should have announced the theaters/HBO Max strategy as being in effect for the first 6 months of the year (when it made perfect sense) rather than all of 2021. Then they would not have been boxed into any corners and could have decided to change the strategy for the remainder of the year.

It does take the “event” out of it, for sure.
And that's just heartbreaking. While it doesn't entirely ruin the experience for me since I'll be seeing it at the theater, the fact that I know it'll be on streaming and taking away from it's box office upsets me. It's just baffling to me on all levels why they would do that.
