The Matrix Resurrections

Oh... I forgot about "new architect"...

This character should be intimidating, it would really help the story, but... This guy was a joke. Awful acting. Just awful.

69% and 6.3/10 on RT so far.

I am glad I read this thread before watching the movie. It lowered my expectation so much I ended up liking it. I was expecting utter crap and it was actually not bad.

Like i said before, i dont even know with which expectations one should go into this.

I mean should i even expect some stylish martial arts or gunfights? I know its Matrix and all, but the trailer feels more like grounded look at the topic.
Looking at it from a different angle than before due to how the world has changed in so many aspects.

I dont know, the mixed reactions really make me more and more curious to watch the movie myself as soon as possible.

Yeah, the action was terrible. The music too, it lacked the punch of the trilogy.
I usually hate this late sequels but this one might just make the previous two Matrix films retroactively better.

It definitely isn't as offensive/upsetting as The Last Jedi was, so I don't get comparisons, I'm not crazy about it, but I also don't hate it.
As soon as they started "general this" and "general that", it gave me serious Disney SW vibes.

Man the editing and action choreography is terrible. That train sequence looked horrible.

The action, cinematography, visuals of the 1999 film were groundbreaking. Everyone started copying it. Even Spielberg was trying to ape The Matrix with Minority Report. We'd never seen anything like The Matrix before in live action. Now, Resurrections looks like more of the same.

Truly disappointed the action not delivering but even more so the score...... Sigh, why is it so hard to have a energetic action set piece with Techno or Drum & Bass in films these days. Closest we've had in my personal opinion is Tron Legacy but the music pretty much made that film lool this is why i miss the 90s/00's to a certain extent . Matrix, Blade, Replacement killers, Equilibrium ,Event Horizon etc All these generic scores for films these days leave a bitter taste in the mouth. The only Scfi film in todays climate where the score brought more than its worth was Blade Runner 2049. Rant over.

Still seeing this Friday...my expectations are in check.

I dug it. Yeah it’s messy but so were the sequels and I found enjoyment in those too.

7/10

I didn't expect any miracles from YAM imitating Laurence Fishburne. Different leagues entirely.

A B- cinemascore, the lowest for the franchise.

Not surprised. Audiences are not going to like this movie and its not going to do well at the box office at ALL. Its bad enough it had to go against Spiderman which is swallowing everything in its path whole but the movie doesnt have its own legs to stand on on its own.

I SUSPECT the reason why it has a surprisingly high score on RT is critics probably admire the weird swing this took and how this had less of an emphasis on action like Reloaded and Revolutions and felt more personal. Which sounds GOOD on paper but the execution wasn't there.

This movie could have been just 90 minutes. It’s 2.5 hours just to get it back to the standard quo.

So I rewatched it a second time, and while I still really enjoyed it I think I still put Revolutions over Resurrections, mainly due to the action, music, and cast. so here's my new updated list that includes Animatrix as well. Overall, I enjoy all the movies for what they are. The first film is a masterpiece, Reloaded is fantastic, Animatrix is an underrated classic, Revolutions is a little of fun with some good action, and while flawed, it ties everything up nicely. Resurrections is a meta commentary on the Matrix franchise, and franchises as a whole that I'm sure will divide people for years to come, but it's still a fun way to revisit the world.

The Matrix 10/10
The Matrix Reloaded 8.5/10
The Animatrix 8/10
The Matrix Revolutions 7.5/10
The Matrix Resurrections 7/10

I enjoyed it, but my expectations were in check, had some good moments. Based on the ending, we'll see if we get another Trilogy out of this, but I think Box Office might squash that.

Yeah this franchise ain’t going any further. I’m satisfied with how things ended here.

I don't even think Lana herself wants this movie to do well. This movie was ...kind of like El Camino the Breaking Bad Netflix movie that came out a few years ago. While thats a much stronger film, even BB fans like myself admitted it was kind of superfluous and unnecessary. And that I think sums up Resurrections. Its an unnecessary, overlong epilogue. But it does have a more positive ending than Revolutions did so in a way its kind of a course correction. But i DOUBT Lana wants to keep making these things.
