The Matrix Resurrections

So I have a question regarding Smith's motivations.

So when Smith confronts Neo and the crew at the warehouse he tells Neo to stay out of the Matrix because Neo is not ready for the Analyst and if he goes after Trinity then the Analyst will enslave him again and due to their bond Smith will be enslaved again as well. And when Neo refuses then Smith attempts to kill him because with Neo dead the Analyst can't control Smith again? Was that the gist of it?

I don't even think Lana herself wants this movie to do well. This movie was ...kind of like El Camino the Breaking Bad Netflix movie that came out a few years ago. While thats a much stronger film, even BB fans like myself admitted it was kind of superfluous and unnecessary. And that I think sums up Resurrections. Its an unnecessary, overlong epilogue. But it does have a more positive ending than Revolutions did so in a way its kind of a course correction. But i DOUBT Lana wants to keep making these things.

That seemed obvious when Christina Ricci's character said

"Inside, you'll find the breakdown including keyword association with the brand. The top two being "originality" and "fresh," which I think are great things to keep in mind as you begin working on Matrix 4. And who knows how many more."

and Neo almost winces at the very last line haha. And yet, this to me does feel like the start of another trilogy. I want to know more about what has been happening in the real world and what Neo's and Trinity's role would be in the new status quo.

Yeah, I feel like IF the series continues, It'll be without Lana. Some of the commentary in the movie made it sound like she was obligated to do it, which I found both funny and interesting haha. But i do think it's the end of the road for the Wachowskis involvement with the brand. I don't think it's the end of The Matrix though.

I'd rather it stop now than become that. Resurrections isn't perfect, but I still think it's far better than Terminator Genysis or Dark Fate.
Yeah. I didn't like this film but I can see it being like an epilogue to the original trilogy. A new send off to Neo and Trinity and that's it.

I watched it last night. While I didn't think it was bad, I'm not sure if I'd exactly call it better than Reloaded or Revolutions. While I do like Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Jonathan Groff and thought they each did fine here, I did find myself missing Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving a lot. I was actually interested in all the meta stuff but I gradually got more bored with it as it went on, although I did like the ending.

If the Wachowskis are indeed out moving forward, then so is Keanu & Carrie. They both stated they only returned because they got the call from Lana herself. Unless the Wachowskis hand-picked the next creative team, I don't feel certain those two would return. And if that's the case, what then?

Yikes. As a diehard fan of the original films, I really wanted to love this but I’m unfortunately left feeling disappointed. It’s a film that does not live up to that incredible first trailer.

Some very interesting ideas here, and like others are saying, I dug the first half of the film much more than the second. But I’m surprised at how this turned out. I understand they were trying to do something different, but I felt it was seriously lacking the polish and precision of the previous films. Many aspects and VFX choices looked and felt…cheap? Almost like a TV movie. Very strange.

Did not enjoy NPH or what they did with his character at all. One of the worst aspects for me.

Still has some redeeming qualities and cool moments, and it was good to see some of the gang back again.

Thanks to WB’s poor planning and decision making, this one is going to flop at the box office anyway.

I want to see more stories told within the vast Matrix universe, but maybe they should develop a TV series or make a new comic book series.

Man the editing and action choreography is terrible. That train sequence looked horrible.

The action, cinematography, visuals of the 1999 film were groundbreaking. Everyone started copying it. Even Spielberg was trying to ape The Matrix with Minority Report. We'd never seen anything like The Matrix before in live action. Now, Resurrections looks like more of the same.
How would you say the action in Resurrections would have been received back in the era of the sequels? Is it not good even by that benchmark?

Oh, I can answer that: it's terrible in comparison with any decade. Badly staged, choreographed, edited. It's truly awful. I can't believe it.

Oh right. :csad:

Yeah, Modal Morpheus was insufferable. I like Yahya Abdul Mateen II but I couldn't stand his character being some digital copy of Morpheus.

Loved him in Aquaman, watchmen series, new candyman but here completely took me out the movie didnt do him any favors having fishburne considerable screen presence playing in the background such a strange choice considering Fishburne has said if asked he would have returned

The fact that they didn’t even ask him to return but Morpheus is felt all through this movie was a very strange flex to me.

Love Yahya but this movie made him look like a joke.

Did they have a fallen out? did Lana ever said why the recast?

Still dont know why they made this film.

Why this film was made is a part of the movie's actual story. WB is rebooting or continuing every piece of formerly popular IP they have like Space Jam and Dune. They're desperate for money in the age of Disney dominance as new IP is almost certain death at the box office.

Pretty interesting. I have to say that so far, the people on my feed who I consider to be generally smart and more 'film literate' are the ones who are loving this film the most. At the same time the people who seem to be more squarely in the fan community seem to be harsher on it. This fascinates me.

That kind of tracks for me. This film is sort of more interesting as a curious artefact than as another chapter in the ongoing continuity. It is more concerned than ever with the sensation of being lost, and while there is some interesting lore, you don't get as complete a picture as you did with the past sequels.

The closest thing to this that I can remember was Twin Peaks: The Return, although Resurrections is much more approachable.

Yeah but beyond commenting on it, I don't think the movie has any real reason to exist. It also quickly abandons all of that in the first act to become a straightforward sequel. Is like the movie criticizes rebooting IPs with lazy sequels by being a lazy sequel itself. Nothing groundbreaking happens to overcome those criticisms.
