"I am not my brother Robert, but we will save Ned Stark's daughter and free Winterfell."

This is the guy they turned into a villain.

Thats an exageration. He didnt become a villain. He didnt burn his daughter out of sadistic pleasure. He did it out of desperation. He believed he is the rightful king, he has a priestess telling him he is basically the messiah and that the fate of westeros and millions of lives are in his hands and he was desparate, and he believed his only hope of taking back Winterfell and surviving was by sacrificing his daughter to the Lord of Light. He chose westeros and millions of lives over his daughter. That doesnt qualify him as a villain.

Well, he says that now, but considering there is at least 2,000 more pages left in the series and a whole lot of awful cruel **** is going to happen its likely he's going to change his mind on the matter at some point in book 6 or 7. Out of desperation, cause if its between letting the white walkers massacre all of westeros or burning his daughter to try to try to appease the Lord of Light he is probably going to sacrifice his daughter.

Common sense and logic (not to mention a basic understanding of geography) dictate that it's incredibly unlikely. He can't physically go North in the current scenario, not when it would take him 90 days of travel through blizzards, not when he has no supplies for the journey, not when he's got an army of considerable size in front of him to face. You also keep forgetting that the conditions for Shireen's sacrifice are at their peak now-at the Wall, thousands of league away from Stannis. There's even a strong possibility that she'll outlive her father, even if it is only for a short time.

That was never presented as such within the episode itself and when D&D discussed the scene in the "Inside the Episode" they described Stannis killing his daughter as an act of ambition rather than anything for the greater good. They've said before that they view Stannis as a fanatic and even recently compared the scene to actions of the ISIS killings.

A lot can happen in 2,000 pages.

Yeah a fanatic that believes he is the messiah, rightful king, and responsible for westeros. Which is what I said.

And yeah it was presented that he was desperatr. He didnt need to look into the screen and say he was doing it for the greater good and out of desperation to get that point across. He was in a desperate sotuation and he believed the Lord of Light was his only chance of winning. He did it to win at winterfell. He is doing everything with an ultimate goal in mind. Get the iron throne and then stop the Others which saves Westeros and its people. If he died at winterfell he couldnt achieve that goal. So anything he does is ultimately towards that goal. Including sacrificing his daughter.

And an ambitious person can be desperate. The two things arent mutually exclusive. It was obvious in the episode he was desperate.

they really **** the bed with using leeches on Gendry and never explaining or showing that it doesn't work that way.

Balon Greyjoy hasn't died on the show. I think that proves Melisandre's ritual with the leeches didn't actually work.

Stannis is not a fanatic. It's clearly established within the novels that his entire outlook on life is based around the fact that he's an atheist who believes justice comes from the hands of men rather than Gods. Look at the people he burns in the novels, not once does he burn an innocent. Everyone he sacrifices would otherwise be put to death under normal Westerosi law as established by the Targaryens. He gives an entire speech about this to Davos in A Storm of Swords (which was conviently cut from the show). He knows Melisandre has power and that's useful as a weapon, but he doesn't believe himself to be the Messiah. He goes along with it because it keeps Melisandre on his side, not for any genuine belief in his own divinity.

He may have been desperate, but he was desperate to feed his ambitions. That's the whole point. Stannis fatal flaw isn't ambition (it's pride), he isn't the kind of man who wants more than what he is owed. D&D portrayed him as someone doing what he was doing out of a desire for power, and have mentioned that repeatedly.

LOLLLLL You pretend people know who Balon actually is anymore.

I'm not like Roose in wanting my adaptations to be... pure... In adapting something you have to make something fit from one medium to another, but not to the point you bastardize the source material.

They have Monty Python shirts at Hot Topic?! :wow:

I've clearly been missing out.

I'm ok with changes in the adaptation process, but only when the material that used in place of the source is as fitting to the characters it involves and is done in a way that is equal or better to the source material. Mason Verger's death in the film adaptation of Hannibal is an example, it wasn't like the novel or television series, but it was entirely fitting to Mason's arc and backstory.

Hot Topic is the devils church.

Brother... If you could only see and HEAR this woman... Kingdoms have risen and fallen over less beauty and charm. I we hung a little again tonight. She came back at like 2am from a Yankee game she went to with a female Japanese friend of hers.

That's the kind of shirt they'd have in an Australian store called Basement, which I'd assumed Hot Topic was the US equivelent lol. I guess not?

I know that. But you did cover yourself in hand lotion, shave all your body hair and crawl on the floor when they aired episode 9 last year.
