Thought he deserved his own thread instead of hijacking Mega Man's

Mighty No. 9 is a new game, and spiritual successor of Mega Man. It is being developed by Keiji Inafune (creator of Mega Man) and Inti Creates (developers of the Mega Man Zero series, as well as Mega Man 9 and 10). Together they have put together a great team of Mega Man vets and newcomers alike.

As you might expect, much like Mega Man, it's an action platformer where you jump around and shoot guys.

Also like Mega Man, Beck (the main character) can transform and gain and new abilities as he defeats enemies.

Unlike Mega Man though, Beck has a set of special abilities that he can use at any time.

Mighty No. 9 is currently in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign which you can check out HERE. It's already reached it's base goal, however there are many more stretch goals to achieve (which will add things like additional levels and features, as well as ports to other platforms). If you think the game might be cool, you can donate as little as one dollar or as much as you want.

oh it seems this will have to be merged since havok made a thread for it already.

Yeah, I already asked a mod to do it.

I'm interested in seeing Capcom's reaction.
Mega Man 11 coming soon to every console in 2014!

In all honesty M9 is everything Ive wanted out of the MM series. I never got into 9 and 10 which had the outdated 8bit graphics. I wanted a colorful HD title which built upon the direction MM8 had moved towards . The concept art and visuals for M9 so far look gorgeous and this is what an HD MM should have looked like

I'm interested in seeing Capcom's reaction.

I've seen a lot people say this since the project was unveiled yesterday, and I'm not sure I understand exactly what people are expecting Capcom to do. Is there some thought that Capcom may sue? I don't really think that'll happen. It's a spiritual successor to Mega Man, not an official one, and is different enough in design that it's doubtful a lawsuit would be successful. I doubt we'll see any kind of official reaction from Capcom. I just expect that, if it's a success, we might actually see Capcom try to do something with MM again.

A spiritual successor is basically a game that technically has no relation to a previous series (in this case Mega Man), but borrows distinct aspects of it and is usually made by people who developed the game series from before. In this case, the type of gameplay and style and the original creator of MM and several developers over many different MM games.

Another recent example is Dark Souls from Demon's Soul.

I mean will the game look like a game has been made at the present time or game stuck in the past, like Mega Man 9.10

Well, I don't know, you can see the screens at the KS page. It's a classic styled game, not a Legends or Battle Network inspired game, if that's what you mean.

What a weird response..and I think you've misunderstand what Tron Bonne said completely.

DID you actually see the screenshots for Mighty No. 9? It's beautiful. It's fresh, new, and keeps the legacy going through a new franchise. A mix of the old and new.

The first stretch goal has been reached. Two additional levels will be added to the game.

Just about halfway for the consoles stretch goal, then. I reeeeally hope people pull together to reach that milestone.

Also I hope one of the secret stretch goals is revealed - once surpassed - to be "Mr Inafune has a holiday in Hawaii"

I don't particularly understand why the console goal is so far down the list. Is porting over a title like this really that expensive and difficult? I've always thought that the actual process of porting is generally not that bad, especially with low end titles like this. Plus Nintendo and Sony both have taken steps to make port smaller titles over cheaper and easier (not sure on if the same is true for MS or not).

Of course, I don't actually know anything about it, just going off second hand knowledge. I just want to play the game on a console really, not a fan of playing games on the PC. But I would for this, I guess, if it doesn't make it.

Inafune: Mighty No. 9 looks like Mega Man due to my art style

Mighty No. 9 could present some legal issues due to its similarity, both in terms of art and gameplay, to Capcom's Mega Man series. When it comes to the former, Keiji Inafune told me at PAX Prime it's because he created both Mega Man and Mighty No. 9 – and it's only natural the two should share some resemblance.

"If you really do look at something that a lot of people really don't realize, that character – Beck – may look similar to Mega-Man at a precursory glance, but it's because I created it. Artists have their own style and they get comfortable in that style, so the things they make look very similar," Inafune said. "Picasso paintings look like Picasso paintings, so that's my style – I can't help it, that can't be changed, it is what it is." Inafune elaborated that despite the style, Beck and Mega Man are two very different characters, "from the color, from the fact that one has a cannon on his arm and the other doesn't, from the eye size, from the headgear – it's very different."

On the note of legality, Inafune admitted he had some concern how Mighty No. 9 may be perceived, but reiterated the game is "one hundred percent, from the ground up, built originally" and doesn't take anything from previous Mega Man games. "I can't say I have absolutely no worry but it's really impossible to say how one side is going to view something. There was no ill will and ultimately I think if it did come down to any sort of legal issue, it would be like: Did I actually have ill will towards Capcom when coming up with this concept? And to that I can one hundred percent say no that is not the case. So for me, it was merely, one hundred percent, I heard the voice of the fans and I've always been somebody who likes listening to them and that's what I'm trying to do with this project."

Their first "Communi-Tuesday" update has been posted on the Kickstarter page.

They mostly highlight things from the community like fan art and videos, but they included a FAQ this week. So go check that out if you're curious about additional platforms beyond PC, (and potentially) PS3, 360, and Wii U.

Worth noting that the game cleared it's second strecth goal of a Mac/Linux version of the game, and is less than $50,000 away from it's third: New Game Plus and Turbo Mode. Crazy.

And it's reached that goal now, too, in less than 8 hours after my post. I was thinking it may not make the console stretch, but it looks like it may end doing that and more.

Wednesday Update

tl;dir - They rejiggered their stretch goals and lowered the dollar threshold of the documentary and console ports. ($1,750,000 and $2,200,000 respectively)

A Vita version should be the $2.5M goal
