What cities have the most successful pro sport teams in the last 30 years (Football, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey).

I'd have to say New York:

1. Yankees (6)
2. Mets (1)
3. Giants (3)
4. Islanders (3 *4 if you go back 31 years)
5. Devils (3)
6. Rangers (1)

That's 17 titles in 30 years. Pretty hard to beat. Basically every team except the Jets and Knicks has at least 1 championship.

I'd say Pittsburgh can make the argument in regards to the NFL and NHL. Especially if you go last 40 years rather than last 30.

In the past 40 years, the Steelers have had 6 Super Bowl wins and 8 AFC championship wins. If you're only going 30, they've still had two Super Bowl wins and four AFC championship wins.

In regards to the NHL, the Pens have won three Stanley Cups in the past twenty years.

As for the MLB, well, the Pirates hold the record for most consecutive losing seasons, so we are even the best at losing! :woot:

I'd say another city that has an argument is Boston.

In the past thirty years they have won:

- 4 NBA titles
- 3 Super Bowl championships/6 AFC championships
- 3 AL pennants and 2 World Series titles (Breaking a near ninety year drought)
- 3 NHL conference championships (and if they pull off the win over Vancouver, a Stanley Cup).

Its a pretty impressive record.

Yea im agree with you Boston is the successful city for pro sport team they have a great record in history as evey1 know

Los Angeles ain't too shabby. The only city to win a championship in all six of the highly watched team sports in the last 30 years (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, college basketball, college football)

10 NBA titles
3 World Series titles (2 Dodgers, 1 Angels)
1 NHL title
1 Super Bowl

Last I heard, your college football championship was wiped off the record book.

Indeed Hulkster, plus the Kings have never won the Stanley Cup.

Yankees have made the Playoffs, 14 out of the past 15 years. In the past 30 years, 8 AL Pennents, 5 World Series wins.

Giants have been in 4 Superbowls in the past 30 years, winning 3.

I really wish the Knicks can win in my lifetime. :(

Except the Ducks are in Anaheim. The people of southern California are geographically challenged.

Anaheim is considered part of LA's media market. The LA Angels play in Anaheim. The LA Rams played in Anaheim back in the day.

I wasn't sure whether to include Anaheim but considering the New York guy included the New Jersey Devils I felt it was only fair.

Plus Anaheim is pretty much the same distance to LA that Foxborough is to Boston, so if the Ducks/Angels don't count for LA then the Patriots don't count for Boston.

USC won in 2004 and 2005. Only one of those two was wiped out.
I can't believe that somehow this thread turned into me defending USC (I went to UCLA)

Devils were included because for 25 years they played in the same sports complex as the NY Giants and NY Jets, and even now are only a 15 minute drive from the Lincoln Tunnel.

But yeah, Boston sadly is Titletown.

But the rest of the D, however... :o

Pistons - 1989/1990/2004
Lions - (...1930s?)
Tigers - 1984 (2006:mad:)

1957. Lions were one of the dominant franchises of the NFL in the 1950's. Had they started the Super Bowl 10 years earlier, they'd have won 2 of the first 3.

so who did the clippers get and does it matter? The team needs to pack up and head elsewhere like Las Vegas, change of venue, they are never going to get out from the Lakers shadow by staying in Los angeles.. the owners need to sell to someone who is willing to make a move like that, some real vision to pull off something radical to shake things up.. they might as well be a Farm League team all this time...

And instead we're the only non-expansion franchise to have never been to a SB :csad:

If this conversation was strictly about football and all-time, the big baddies are the GB Packers, who have 3 pre-playoff championships, 9 NFL Championships, and 4 Super Bowls (16).

In the large scale that may not seem like much but 16 titles out of 90 years is almost an 18% winning percentage. I don't think any original franchise is anywhere near that.

On topic though, they are obviously dwarfed in this convo with a lack of NBA, NHL or MLB team.

actually the Browns have never been either..the other dominant franchise of the 1950's

Green Bay is usually lumped in with Milwaukee for those types of discussions but I believe the Brewers and Bucks only have 1 championship between them (Bucks).

USC has one championship during the 2000's. It followed the '04 season. It has since been taken away.
