The music industry is trying to make friends again.

do people even still buy cd's?

maybe if they were like, $5 i would, just to get the better quality, and not have to sit in front of a computer for 30 minutes to download a bunch of songs... but why would i pay $15 for that? why would they charge $15 for that?

maybe they need to pay celebs/singers less money?

It's not the artists that get the lion's share of CD, tape and record sales; it's the record companies that get it. Actual production costs (including studio time, album artwork, CD pressing or other media mass production, and even the marketing costs are all relatively minimal and eat up maybe 5% of the actual sales cost. The artist is LUCKY to get 3-5% of each CD sold, but that's the big names that get that. The lesser known acts get more around the neighborhood of 1% or less. The rest goes to the corporate suit a-holes that run the record companies.

Because that is so true!
nope, I know a lot of musicians and people who love music in general who are also great conversationalists

it's something comepletly different, a little bit more complex

Yep. They make most of their money off of touring ticket sales and merchandising.

Go ahead, explain your little theory.

This is true. Ever notice that only artists with their own record labels speak out against file sharing?

in a nutshell, people who don't appreciate art have no soul

You mean I'm a vampire!

Cool, that also means I'm eternal.

Dexter Holland Owns Nirto Records and he is all for it ;)

Maybe if the music industry got their artists to write an entire album worth of good/great songs people will buy it, rather than one or two hits and nine or ten filler songs. I personally just use iTunes to purchase individual songs every now and then to download onto my iPod. Can't remember the last time I bought an actual CD.

Being soulless does not necessarily imply vampirism.

See you in hell.

The record industry only WANTS artists who crank out one or two hits and then fade away. It keeps those artists from gaining any sort of negotiating power come contract renegotiation time. Disposable artists are where it's at for the big record companies. They're cheap to produce, pull in a ton of money, and then they don't have to deal with them long term.

regardless of quality, cd technology has been available for 2 decades now, yet the price of cd's has remained the same , through these supossed crisis of piracy, yet DVD's which are like 6 years old had been reduced from 35.99 a piece back 1999 to about 12 dlls for premiere items.

seems the Music industry thinks no one will notice this.

**** them.

"but we pay for packaging , marketing and graphic design"
yeah, the beatles abd floyd sure...i'm sure you're still paying royalties to whoever designed those albums.

music industry ****es!

grrrrrrrrrr! I keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel them!

That's not necessarily true. Yeah, there probably good music still being produced, as rare as it might be.

However, the fact that I wasn't raised around it, my ear is not in tune to it so it wouldn't sound very good. That's why the music your granddad likes, you probably don't.

actually my grandpa loved johnny cash and hank williams.....so do i. and because of that, i introduced him to modern bands of that style, like blanche and loretta lucas, and he loved'em.

mmm, nope, you're not a vampire, you're not cool and according to my theory, you're just an empty body-vessel without a soul

you see, souls are energy, and energy is in a constant state of transformation, which is where the hindu take their reincarnation beliefs from

now, a long time a ago, there were a lot of souls and a lot of bodies being born, but nowadays, there's more bodies being born than souls hanging around

the soul, being the energy-life that makes up for your personality, the little details and quirks and things that make you who you are

but for a while, there has been a great amount of souless people being born, and I've observed that their most distinguishing shared characteristics amongs these "things" is the lack of an actualy funny sense of humor and a nill appreciation for the fine arts, being them art, sculpture, cinema, music, etc. comic books and movies do not count, for those are more related to the entertainment side and even where there is actual art involved, it's not in its pure form (a hit single from Ashlee Simpson does not carry the same artistic weight as a whole album by Radiohead, or Un Chien Andalou has way much more artistic value than Titanic, the same way that a painting by any German Expresionistic actor has more value than a whole Mark Bagley run.... no I'm not dissing comics, I'm just saying they don't have the same "weight" as other media)

this, is a simplified version of the whole theory, it gets deeper

I'm on tiscali and I don't fileshare anymore, which is totally weird for me since I'm a music freak.

I prefer film to literature.

I guess I am vapid and soulless.

I don't get people that say they don't listen to music.

Every single time, it's always a lie. 'Cause when you're all like "you don't listen to music???" and they're all like "no I don't", and you're all on at them about it for awhile, they'll eventually backtrack and say ".... I only listen to music from (such and such a period or genre).

Why not just say that in the first place and save yourself the trouble??

Everyone likes music. Everyone. There probably is not a single solitary human being that is an exception, except deaf people of course. But heck, even alot of deaf people like the beats! If there is a person that claims he doesn't like any music, he simply hasn't heard the right song yet.

Example, these two ******s were on the radio about a week ago. The host was saying "so these two guys, niether of them like music. We wanna see if we can turn them around. Call us up and tell us what songs you think can convince them".

About 3 or 4 songs in, they're saying "yeah I liked that song that was good".

God damn ******s.

I hate people.

It depends on the comic.

and as a reply for you and JlBats:

indeed, it does depend on the work appreciated at the time

it's not the same Watchmen than Carnage, Mindbomb

and it's not the same Wings Of Desire to City Of Angels

of course, there's people who preffer the later examples to the first ones

therein lies the soulesness

I like Johnny Cash and the other 50's and 60's country stars, but I hate rap and Britney Spears.

I find it hilarious that people still say they don't listen to Britney Spears. She hasn't released an actual album in 3 years. Nobody is listening to Britney Spears.
