The Music of "Wolverine"

those are all pretty subpar snippets...this is a composer with a very colorful career and almost nothing to show for it but a steady paycheck...from his filmography i can't pick out a single score that stands out...seems like a misfire to me...i would have brought back john powell...aside from how x3 turned out...i still think he did a good job and understood the movie as much as ottman did on x2.

Actually Harry Gregson Williams' score for Kingdom of Heaven is probably one of the best film score's I've ever heard, simply for the fact that it went for historical accuracy in the chants and melodies, and sounded like something straight outta the crusades. I imagine this score will be something between his score for thr Narnia films and his thriller scores for things like Man on Fire

Yea the Kingdom of Heaven score is probably one of, if not THE best score for a movie I have ever heard. It was literally perfect. And on the DC it had little interludes with just the music playing which I thought were great little touches.

one thing that always bothered me about kingdom of heaven was the use of Graeme Revell's score excerpt from the crow...seemed unnecessary...and if HGW's score was so good why couldn't he have cued that moment?

And my point is that looking at all the films he's scored...its pretty standard stuff...obviously composers get their hands on a lot that we sometimes never notice or in a movie that slips right by...but just looking at the rest of what he's done...I'll give you KofH...to me...its all simple sounding standard stuff...a composer was the last thing they looked at for Origins imo.

Didn't even notice it. But I haven't watched it for a while. Was that on the DC or the theatrical cut?

....whoa wait a sec...never said i didn't like Kingdom of Heaven...i was one of the few supporters of it when it came out, saw it in theaters and have seen it several times on dvd with other friends...i actually did own the directors cut and never watched it...it just sat with the rest of my shrine of super special edition dvd's and box sets...i ended up gifting it to my dad after i got a bluray player...

so...i don't know if the music in the scene where Balian takes on like 6 guys sent to kill him is still in the DC...but it was my only "huh?" moment in the movie...:D

but i will have to get the dc on bluray as my collection builds.

I recommend holding off on the blu-ray and just buying the DC on dvd, because the dvd has a ton of awesome special features and the blu ray has NONE

Are you guys are forgetting he did the music for the Metal Gear Solid Series...? That music was breathtaking. That is the MOST important credential to me on his list...

So now that some people have seen the real thing . . . how was the music? Noticeable? Invisible? Horribly bad? Amazingly brilliant?

I don't have a good ear for this kinda stuff, I barely mention the scores when I make a movie review. So, it was regular, as in normal movies, for me, but I'm not the kind of guy you should ask, or listen to :p I noticed that it was different than the tone of the trilogy, where the music was more "potent", and in Wolverine was more "melodical". More "sad-drama" than "action-drama"

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm planning on buying the soundtrack as soon as it comes out, so I hope it's good.

See....I AM interested....but my senses tell me....

Well Celtic, you can ask now to Electrix, Kanon, The Ace of Knaves and Spidey 2007 if it was a trap

I ment because if I ask for it, they'll read my PM's and probably ban me.

However...

I agree with Kanon completely. The music isn't really dramatically epic or anything.. but it works well with the movie, and that's what really matters IMO. At one point during the movie the music became really obvious to me... not in the way that I thought 'man, this is so out of place for this scene', but because it was supportive of what was going on in the particular scene and I had to stop to admire it. :yay: So that was good.

But I don't think it's the kind of soundtrack I'd actually buy, or listen to all day. I'd have to see the movie again and pay more attention to the music to be sure though.

What scene? You dont have to be spoilerish.

You could just say "Opening titles" or 'Gambit fight", and i'll know what you mean.

Let the real discussion begin, I don´t have a final word yet, great theme, as it was said, dramatical and melodic, specially at Logan through time and At the Island

Great! I'm so excited for the music!

One more sleep for me, people! I can't wait for that midnight showing!
