The Namek: Piccolo Discussion Thread

I can see Piccolo as a cross between Batman and Martian Manhunter, only Piccolo would have no problems with killing you

*Gets idea for a Namek/Martian crossover* :hyper:

^That'd be pretty cool. The badass good guy. Although that's kinda Vegeta.

I wish we would've gotten to have seen more of Piccolo, especially in the Buu saga & in GT.

Yeah Piccolo doesnt really fight at all in the Buu saga

I know, which kind of angers me. He was reduced to nothing more than being a teacher, it's like AT completely forgot that he was a fighter.

Vegeta seems to be more of an anti-hero, at least until late in the Buu Saga, then he kind of takes Piccolo's role.

It pissed me off too. I loved Piccolo's quiet, confident, borderline cocky attitude when he knew he had an advantage over a fighter. It wasn't as brash as Vegeta's, but in his case that was a good thing. It gave him a sense of mysterious and badassness. Like Batman.

It's only natural Piccolo took a step back, he simply didn't have the strength to take on the later enemies, doing so would have been certain death.

I know what you mean. His attacks are acerbic. His personality is suave. It succeeds in frustrating the hell out of some of his barbaric counterparts.

"It's all over for you, Namek! You're going to die."

PICCOLO: "Not likely, I've seen you fight."

Well, let's remember that the Buu saga was all about the New Generation and thus it is natural that Piccolo would take a step back and train the kids.

Goten and Trunks were the new generation but never lived up to the hype

Was that when he fought Dr. Gero's Android form or Garlic Jr.?

Agreed, we didn't get to see anything like that in the Buu saga. I'm pretty damn sure Piccolo kept training during those seven years leading up to the Buu saga & it sure would've been nice to see him have actually put that training to use. Well, at least we got to see him fighting in a few movies & got him as a major villain in DB & in three sagas of DBZ with him actually fighting. Now, we're getting him in live action form. I hope they don't change a damn thing about his personality.

Well...he sort of fought Vegeta inside Buu. That's all I recall; then again, I didn't watch much DBZ after Cell.

If they can bring his character to the big screen that would make half the movie for me. Actually, I wish more of him rubbed off on Gohan in the manga. Gohan would have been kick ass if he was hybrid between Goku and Piccolo as a fighter.

Gohan was a hybrid of Goku and Piccolo as a fighter.

Fan and editor outcry prevented Gohan from defeating Buu as Toriyama had planned. As for Goten and Trunks they did their share during the Buu arc and would most probably go on to have done more so as they grew older (that is if we threw DBGT to the waste side as we should).

Gohan should have defeated Buu, IMO.

Of course he should have, he did get that power up, after all.

In style yes and early on Gohan was a mix of Goku and Piccolo. He had Goku's moral compass and up beat manner but was less naive than his father, had a darker side, and could finish opponents off. But that seemed to be thrown out the window in the Buu Saga. I guess thats what happens when you live with ChiChi for seven years straight.

Yeah, but Chi Chi changed her views towards fighting...she trained Goten until he went Super Saiyan. But yeah, you're point still stands.

He had their fighting styles & some of their movies but I, too, wish that Piccolo's personality would've rubbed off on Gohan so he would've been more badass. :word:

Gohan was always supposed to be a bit of a softy (until you pissed him off so badly he'd own the hell out of you). Gohan isn't always Mr. Merciful like Goku when he has you down and out -- that's the main difference between them to me.
