I had withdrawn in forest, and my song
Was swallowed up in leaves that blew alway;
And to the forest edge you came one day
(This was my dream) and looked and pondered long,
But did not enter, though the wish was strong:
You shook your pensive head as who should say,
'I dare not--too far in his footsteps stray--
He must seek me would he undo the wrong.

Not far, but near, I stood and saw it all
Behind low boughs the trees let down outside;
And the sweet pang it cost me not to call
And tell you that I saw does still abide.
But 'tis not true that thus I dwelt aloof,
For the wood wakes, and you are here for proof.

Looks like the delay of Siege has sparked several other Marvel delays. Decided to skip out on Brightest Day, since I'd not really all that interested in it outside two characters and Generation Lost and Birds of Prey will be starting soon. Cool to see Spider-Girl back, though she won't be on shelves very long, I'm sure

And that is it. SIEGE ran late? A series drawn by Coipel? Who knew? This has never happened before!

Oh, wait, it did. When HOUSE OF M ran late. THOR ran horribly behind schedule too, but that wasn't a Bendis event, so...

I can almost understand when the Joe Q administration fails to learn from history that came before the year 2000. Most "new bosses" believe time stood still before their tenure. But failing to learn from 2004-2005? When the same creative team ran late for their first event? That's just plain incompetence. But maybe I am being too blunt.

Plus, Marvel's feast or famine schedule is doing more harm to retailers than plastic rings ever did.

A delay of two weeks because of the issue expanding its page-count isn't exactly huge.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #12 $2.99
BRIGHTEST DAY #1 $2.99
REALM OF KINGS SON OF HULK #4 (OF 4) $3.99
UNCANNY X-MEN #524 XSC $2.99
X-MEN HELLBOUND #1 OF (3) XSC $3.99

Maybe
RED ROBIN #12 $2.99
ASTONISHING SPIDER-MAN WOLVERINE #1 $3.99

I HIGHLY doubt I'll pick up the Aston. Spidey & Wolvie comic. I don't feel like starting another series with these two and I'm going to guess that it'll be $4 per issue ongoing. The only thing making me curious is the art. I love Kubert, and I just reread the Fallen Son: Spider-Man issue with the two of them, which was good. So I'll at least give it a fair thumb through at the store. Red Robin on the other hand, I'll likely pick up. On a whim I picked up the two most recent issues (something I NEVER do) and I really enjoyed them, and since this is a slower week, I may continue it to give it another shot at pulling me in officially.

Now of the rest, decent week. Son of Hulk is the weakest, as I've been very let down by it, but I'll see it through to its end and eager anticipate the next chapter of Hiro-Kala's story. I'm loving Second Coming, so Uncanny and Hellbound excite me. Batman & Robin has been really good, and Brightest Day really has my interest, so I'm excited to see it officially start (though the #0 issue was good for an introductory issue).

Fabian Niceiza starts on Red Robin next month. I'm waiting for that to try the series again.

I picked up the two most recent issues of Red Robin and Batgirl on a whim due to my liking Batman and Batman & Robin. I ended up loving them both, though Batgirl more. I'd like to continue them but money is an issue, so I'm just kinda taking it an issue at a time.

Sure, no problem.

Month late? Fiddle-sticks.

4 years between issues? My, he was awfully busy.

The last few years have brought nothing but lowered expectations for deadlines around the Marvel bullpen. Sometimes the editors bring it upon themselves with either an inability to learn, or worse, one hand not knowing what the other was doing.

As a professional, if I was a week, a month, a year late with delivering a product to a client, I would feel a sense of personal shame and a responsibility as a professional to improve the next time. Marvel, under the Joe Q tenure, never reacts this way. In fact they always have a "woe is us"/"be happy with what we give you, proles" attitude whenever someone dares mention it on Cup O' Joe. In most lines of business, a project running 4 years behind schedule is grounds for termination. In the Joe Q bullpen, that's just a subject of after hours one-liners.

I understand that Joe, as an artist, understood the "stress" of deadlines and has lax standards. But it's time to man up. He's the boss now. Deadlines are a part of life, and in literally no other line of business BUT comic books can late work, of a year or a week, be dismissed and bring about no professional consequences. In real life, if you mess up ONCE, it can go into a company's records and your name is MUD every time you use them as a reference, FOREVER. In Comic Books, Allen Heinberg is welcomed with open arms as if he resurrected Jack Kirby from the tomb.
