Well, FF2 doesn't have a director, so it's understandable that nothing is happening on that front. Trank ain't returning. And they will no doubt be watching the box office and critical ratings of the first film.

I think the problem is they're going after the "Oscar" type of director with Darren Aronofsky and Bennet Miller. I doubt Darren would want to come back at trying to do a comic book movie. And Miller will be enjoying the post success of Foxcatcher and won't want to be tied down to a project like this. They should go after more directors like Mangold. Maybe Gavin O'Connor. Someone like that.

Agreed. Gambit doesn't require an arthouse director, it's not gonna win Oscars and needs someone who can do high-octane action-adventure on a small to mid-sized budget. Someone like Fast and Furious helmer James Wan.

James Wan would be amazing. As a fan of his horror work he could do great things with an X-Men film but it seems WB are after him for one of the DC adaptations.

What month do any of you predict is the last month they can go without getting started on this to avoid a rescheduling?

If Gambit comes out in October how soon does it need to get going?

They should basically starts shooting a year before the release. Much like they're doing with Deadpool and Apocalypse. So they should start filming by end of September early October. I think they can definitely do that.

I want Cary Fukunaga to direct Gambit.

Which is just common sense really. No point starting production in the sequel until the numbers and reception of the first are in. Especially for the potential first in a franchise

Gambit doesn't have a director eather.

Yeah, that's gonna get delayed I bet.

I won't mind Gambit in 2017 and New Mutants in 2016. I won't mind at all.

Boone has too many projects for a 2016 release I think. Deadpool only went into production a year before it's due to come out. As long as we have a director by July, even August, Gambit will probably be alright.

I had no idea Boone had other projects.

Boone is meant to be directing/writing an adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Stand' as well as a Vampire Chronicles adaptation.

He also has his own project that has Imogen Poots and Michael B Jordan attached, however nothing at all is known about that other than that it's called 'Pretenders'.

IMDB also says he is attached to another Stephen King adaptation 'Lisey's Story' but IDEK about that.

He's attached to The Stand. That's been in development hell for ages, but if something finally happens with it he's probably picking that over New Mutants (priority-wise, not saying he wouldn't do NM after). Dude's a huge King fan. Even with New Mutants we're hearing about King influences. It ultimately might be better if he does The Stand first and gets it out of his system, in a sense. I'd be a bit concerned he might try to mold New Mutants into something resembling his self proclaimed dream project if The Stand falls through.

I want him to tell us which characters he plans on using! I'm impressed that so much seems planned even though we've just heard about it a week ago.

And I love you avvy!

Thanks :ilv:

Man I hate delays especially for a X-Men film!

Hopefully Fox is searching so hard for a director like right now! Hopefully since they already presented this film in a big film convention for investors, they would stick to the October 2016 release date. But at the same time, I worry if they'll rush this and get a so-so director, this might out turn to be a meh film. But we'll see. If I had it my way, I would order Fox to just introduce Gambit in another OT cast film.

So, for those who are religiously following my posts (which I hope not, that would be kinda creepy), you might have seen that I've decided to read all the New Mutant issues.

I'm really sold on the idea of using the original team:
Karma (Xi'an Coy Man)
Cannonball (Sam Guthrie)
Sunspot (Roberto Da Costa)
Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclaire)
Psyche/Mirage (Danielle Moonstar)

With honorable mentions to:
Magik (Illyana Rasputin)
Magma (Amara)

My reasoning is this. The original X-Men have received many versions over the years. To me, the definitive version is the 90s cartoon, where I still hear those voice actors for the parts (even the less popular original X-Men, like Havok, Polaris, and Iceman make appearances). In addition, you have X-Men Evolution and the movies. With the New Mutants, you don't really have that (X-Men Evolution had some of them, but not quite the same way). If this is well cast, it has the opportunity to be the definitive version of those characters. That's something that could be quite exciting.

I agree, Mike! I've also been reading the original New Mutants comic. Their personalities all go so well with each other. I really enjoy reading Rahne lol... poor girl. But I would definitely want Magik as part of the core team and driving the plot.
