Not sure, why would Boone tease Warlock this early if he's just appearing in a post-credits scene.

But i also think this roster might not be final yet.

I dindt say that he would, but that he should. A post credit scene isnt something you'd spoil so I dont expect that since he is teasing him in the film

Cypher/Magma/Karma should all appear as background students until they can become members in the sequel.

I'm so happy a predominantly Female Super Heroe movie is getting made!

Please cast Rose & Alexandra as mentors!!

When it comes to sunspot i wonder whether he will be a younger version of the one from DOFP or whether its sunspot 2.0

Assuming of course that it is in the 80s which is starting to sound likely

I'm not overly familiar with the NEW MUTANTS, but I am looking forward to this. Is there any must read trades I should look into?

And this movie will be set in the 80's right?

So Moonstar, Magik, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball and Warlock, that's a solid list. I can wait for Karma and Magma in a sequel, especially if they do the Nova Roma storyline with Selene.

They should get someone who looks Afro-Brazilian.

Claremont's New Mutants book in the 80s is essential reading. I'd just start from issue one.

Nova Roma is so weird. Not sure we'll ever see that. Hopefully Selene though.

Maybe they could do a loose adaptation, like she comes from some secret society that's been around for a long time, sort of an Illuminati deal.

I don't see why the Nova Roma storyline would be weird to adapt. Just simply say it's a small city somewhere in South America and be done with it.

Idk. It's an ancient roman city in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. It's even weirder than the Savage Land lol

speaking of selene eva green would be perfect

I think Nova Roma as is might be too much for Fox (I wouldn't question it if Marvel Studios were making it), but I think they could adjust it to something they would be willing to do and therefore maintain the storyline itself. My previous suggestion would be one way, or they could change the name and make it a city based in ancient native South American culture.

So Magik and Sunspot.
Then this can't be in 80's.
Magik older than Colossus?
Sunspot was born in 80's, he's at Colossus age in 2023.

It'll be in the 80's if they want it to be in the 80's.

Sunspot was in Days of Future Past, I'm guessing they will keep the same actor?

Uh no. They're not going to have some 34-year-old in a team full of teenagers. They're probably ignoring his appearance in DoFP, much like what they are doing with Jubilee and Angel in Apocalypse.

if its in the 80s then probably can't be same actor

if its present day its possible but then the actor probably isn't young enough so chances are probably not

they probably don't need to ignore it if its in the 80s, can be the same character but younger version

Very true. We technically don't know how old Sunspot was in DoFP and we don't exactly know what timeframe they're working with here in New Mutants other than the fact that it's in the 80's so we can mess around with ages.

It's probably better to set it in the present day. If this is really going to be a more YA story, I think it would be more appealing to see kids in the same time the audience is watching them.

You can add some make-up to McAvoy to make him look older or just get Stewart.

Have them expand the roster of X-men with a B-team to include the ones not from the 80s team.

My only concern is having Warlock without Cypher. They IMO are a packaged deal. Doug's power is what made their friendship perfectly suited for each other and helped give Warlock a strong link to the group. I hope if Warlock is in the film, that Doug is as well, although I fear they will skip him since his power is kinda boring and would translate onto film worse than in the books. I can see them merging his character with an existing one like Dani. Like expanding her limited TP to allow her to form an empathic connection to him.

I just want to point out that this is the post-Fall of the Mutants lineup, fwiw.

I'm not overly familiar with the NEW MUTANTS, but I am looking forward to this. Is there any must read trades I should look into?

A lot of the early stuff is collected in New Mutants Classics. Vol. 1 is the Graphic Novel, and #1-7 (as well as Uncanny X-Men #167), Vol. 2 is #8-17, Vol. 3 is #18-25. #18-20 is the Demon Bear Saga, which is one of my favorites, but I think you need the buildup that led to it.

Another great issue is New Mutants #45 ("We Were Only Foolin'"), which explores prejudice, student bullying, and the desire to fit in in a way that's one of the best handled I've ever seen. It reminds me a lot of the "It Gets Better" campaign and it's just a great stand-alone story.

My suggestion is to get Marvel Unlimited if you don't mind digital versions since you can read everything for one flat price. During this era, Chris Claremont often treated his books interchangeably, so there would be a scene in Uncanny X-Men with Magneto on an island. His story would continue in the following month, but Claremont would put it in a New Mutants issue, etc. So it's a good way to follow along by reading both if you haven't read this era of X-Men before.

So Moonstar, Magik, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball and Warlock, that's a solid list. I can wait for Karma and Magma in a sequel, especially if they do the Nova Roma storyline with Selene.

Just pointing out that everyone else uses their mutant name except Mirage (Daniel Moonstar) there. ;)

He seems to be really hinting at Maisie and perhaps Anya joining the franchise. That'd be quite the knockout casting for Rahne and Illyana. I'm getting all anxious from the thought of having these characters adapted. He must be casting simultaneously with his other horror film.

There's also Bella Thorne who keeps commenting on his Insta...seems like subtle rebuking of her with that RT lol.

I don't know anything about Bella Thorne. The only role she could pull off is Ilyana, fwiw. Maybe a Hellion.
