McAvoy is Xavier going forward. Whatever use Wolverine 3 has for Stewart is probably his last.
The age problem is going to come up even if you have NM in the 90s or present. McAvoy isn't old. None of the cast looks the right age for the time jumps.
They should just recast Beast and put him as the mentor in full Beast form in the 2000s with the New Mutants and Xavier.
To be honest, I don't think McAvoy is a problem when it comes to the age of the characters. Especially with a shaved head, I think people can accept him. The new young cast strikes me as a bigger issue. That's not a problem for New Mutants, but it would be a problem.
Did the New Mutants ever travel to the Savage Land? Secondly, is that something you'd want to see? I kind of like the idea of Beast as the headmaster. I know it was mostly Magneto in the books right?
You know, I don't recall them ever going to the Savage Land. Maybe during Evolutionary War, but I think they went to Wundagore Mountain.
Magneto is the headmaster I associate with the New Mutants, but there are basically three eras: Originally, it was Professor Xavier, who was headmaster for a decent chunk of the book (probably for among the best stories there). Then there was Magneto and the book got a bit darker (it was a welcome change of pace). Then, as Magneto reverted back to the comforts of villainy, there's a period where they were essentially acting on their own before being led by Cable. I'd have no problem with Beast being in charge. I think it would make for an interesting dynamic. My suggestion was Colossus to tie it to the X-Mansion we saw in Deadpool, but your's is a good suggestion too.
