The New New, 'Late Late Show' Starring................

Craig is better than even Conan in my book. If he's straight up retiring from being a talk show host altogether, I'll be distraught.

Where else could he go? Comedy Central?

Horrible, horrible news. He was easily the best late night host on television.

I would love for him to remain on tv, but he deserves better than Comedy Central. I wonder if this retirement is him telling CBS to go **** themselves for not giving him the Late Show or him retiring because his boss retired. He may not want to work under Colbert or feels loyal to Letterman and feels compelled to retire when does. Either way this blows!:(

Was not expecting this type of news today. If there's one 12:35 late show I like watching, it's Craig. He's definitely an acquired taste but one that's very sincere, heartfelt, and not overly mean like other comedians. His interviews are also quite different since they're not the typical interview you see on every other talk show. I have a feeling CBS is pushing for someone who attracts a younger audience, which seems to be what all the networks are doing with their late night shuffling. It's amazing that by the end of next year, just about every late night show host will have changed over in the past 2 years with Jimmy Kimmel likely being the longest running host in his respective timeslot.

I think it's interesting that once Letterman retires, Conan will be the oldest talk show host on late night television. Other people have pointed out that this should be Conan's time to be The Late Night King. He has been on the air for almost 21 years. But unfortunately, he's the niche-y guy on TBS.

David Letterman Speaks About Craig Ferguson’s Departure
By LISA DE MORAES, TV Columnist

Taping Late Show this afternoon, David Letterman addressed his studio audience about Craig Ferguson‘s announcement last night that he will leave Late Late Show at the end of the calendar year. Letterman’s Worldwide Pants produces Ferguson’s show: ”Did you hear this last night? Craig Ferguson announced that he will be leaving his show, The Late Late Show, which comes on right after this show, at the end of the year, which is too bad. He’s been on that program, the star of the show since 2005, and he’s going on to do other things, I guess a new show that is in the works for him. But his show was unlike any other late-night show, and I’m telling you, to be unique in the world of television – virtually impossible. So congratulations to Craig on a great run, and we all wish him well.”
Please please please...

The simple fact is, Ferguson wanted to move on before the work became a chore. He’s proud of the show and how oddball it is — with a robot skeleton and stuffed horse for sidekicks. But he has “ideas” for new things and is engaged with the various projects that his Green Mountain West production banner is developing for Science Channel and Discovery. And he’s got a new gig starting in the fall as host and producer of the syndie gameshow “Celebrity Name Game.”
so this syndication game show is his new job?

Another latenight talk show is highly unlikely, despite the vacancy that’s about to open up at Comedy Central when “The Colbert Report” wraps. “I don’t know if I would ever do a latenight talkshow (again). It just doesn’t feel like that’s the way I’m headed,” he said.
there goes our hope :csad:

Ugh a game show? That's worse than no Craig at all. :o

I say give the show to Geoff and Secretariat.

I nominate Chris Hardwick to replace him.

That already took one late night host from Comedy Central, why not one more? :o

I saw his retirement announcement and it wasn't because they didn't give him Late Night nor because Letterman is retiring although that is something he's said in the past. Nor is Colbert a problem, as far as I'm aware. Ferguson said after 10 years it was time to do something new.

I don't blame him if that's really how he feels. I'd like to see him do a few movies or have his own comedy series but I don't think even he really knows what he'll be doing next year.
