Letterman Retiring In 2015

It will certainly be interesting to see who they go with - before Seth Myers was named as a replacement for Fallon's Late Night gig, there was an article on Grantland where they offered suggestions. Here's the link I'm referring to:

For those who don't feel like reading it, the most intriguing names to me were Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Tina Fey & Marc Maron. I'm not sure if any of them would be interested in such a gig, but I'd imagine that Baldwin or Fey would be the higher-profile grabs for CBS to replace Letterman if they wanted to make a splash.

I would have always loved to see Amy Sedaris hosting a nighttime talk show, but sadly she's likely not famous enough for a network to invest in.

I'd love it if Conan came back to network TV.

I think Conan should get it so on Letterman's finale, Conan can stop by and both can give the finger to NBC.

Let it start here

"The hair will rise"

THIS IS CONAN! CONAN!
THIS IS CONAN! CONAN!
THIS IS CONAN! CONAN!

I don't think Fey or Amy Poehler (another name I keep hearing) would want to compete against their close friend Jimmy Fallon or give the finger to Lorne Michales (who is essentially the mentor of both women and the godfather of their careers) by competing against The Tonight Show, which he is now producing.

Yeah, I wouldn't think either of those two would seriously consider it. I believe they'd both be really good at it, but I imagine they're both more focused on acting & producing at the moment anyway to make a full-time move to late night.

I enjoy Fallon and what he brings to The Tonight Show, but I do hope that CBS thinks outside the box a little bit and brings in someone that doesn't fit the traditional mold - I think that's why Fey & Poehler's names are being brought up, since it would be something different. But this is CBS we're talking about, and practically all they do is formulaic TV.

Didn't Parks and Rec get picked up for another season?

I like Fergson where he is, so I wouldn't want him to move up an hour.

I just realized the "cons" Conan would have to face if he took over for Letterman

-Uprooting his family again

-Competing against his successor Jimmy Fallon.

It's been widely known Conan wouldn't move the tonight show because it would push Fallon's Late Night to some infomercial time

BREAKING: Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman as host of "The Late Show."

I like it.

Shocked that it's not more of a crazy unexpected choice.

I hope this doesn't tone down Colbert's comedy too much.

That announcement came sooner than I expected I think. It's hard for me to imagine what this show is going to be like since he's played a caricature for at least the past 10 years going back to The Daily Show.

I like the choice...but only is he plans to keep his current persona. I like him playing the clueless ultra-right winger. The celebrity interviews and bands are things he already does occasionally, so just expand the show a bit.

He's not keeping the satirical persona, he'll probably just act the way he normally does.

No Colbert Report makes me a sad panda. I also hope Craig sticks around. He is my favorite Late Night host.

While I feel Colbert is the best guy to replace any of the current talkshow hosts, it would mean ending one of the greatest satirical characters of all time.

He might retain some elements of it, like being kind of an uptight guy from the 1950's who is largely unaware of popular trends.

Although I can't say I'm not crushed we'll be losing The Colbert Report, I think it's a good choice.

Can you imagine the fights he'll be picking with Jimmy Fallon in that time slot? :funny:

That's insane...great choice for hosting the Late Night show but I'll miss the Colbert Report so much.
