Letterman Retiring In 2015

Well, Oliver is getting his own show so someone will vie for that slot.

I hope he brings his Captain America shield with him. When I went to a taping of his show, he explained (someone asked if ever played with the shield in between shows) that Marvel sent that to him after they killed off Cap during Civil War, saying Captain America would have wanted him to have it.

He said, "My wife, who doesn't even read comic books, cried when she read that. And that was after I got my pants back on." :lmao:

Colbert's comments:

“Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career,” said Colbert. “I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead.”
Adding, “I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”

I didn't expect Colbert to be chosen.

I expected a much safer choice.

It's both sad and great he's taking this role over. I wouldn't have guessed he would take over but he isn't a bad choice either.

I don't think I've ever seen Colbert outside of his character.

No more Colbert Report: :csad:

The possibility of Colbert/Ferguson back to back: :awesome:

Sheesh, are you always on?

If you saw Peabody and Sherman he plays the father character of the little girl, and it's a pretty straightforward role. That's probably what he really sounds like in real life.

What is his actual personality? Even in interviews, he keeps that fake persona on.

He's very normal, but really funny. He does a Q&A with the audience before the show, and they remind everyone before they go in that it is just a character so this is your chance to ask him anything you want while he's out of character, and the more random (or from LOTR) the better, since that gets him hyped up for the show.

I've been to the show twice, and the first time someone asked "If you could meet someone living or dead, what would you wear?" He totally loved that question, and first asked if he was the one who was dead or alive and then answered, "Birthday suit."

It was also the day before the World Cup started, and some guy asked if he was supporting the US, or "your native France." He said, "I'm not French, mother****er!" which was hysterical. He and the guy hugged. During the show, he did a segment about the World Cup and pointed to that guy before he started it.

The second time I went, someone asked if he was planning to see The Phantom Menace in 3D that weekend. He said no, since it just meant "the sucking will be coming right at you." :funny:

He also screwed up a few times while he had a record player on stage. After one screwup, he said "thank god this is our last show.." then put the record on and started dancing. When he was done, he said "Nope, still got it!" and went back to the show.

He tosses those red 'WristStrong' wristbands he wears into the audience, and he ran into the crowd high-fiving people after the show.

It's a lot of fun. I'd love to go back one more time before he leaves.

I cant wait! Colbert and Ferguson back to back is gold!

Great choice but I don't know if he should fully retire his character. I hope he keeps some aspects of it.

Colbert broke character when his mother died.

^You feel good about it.

Rush Limbaugh Loses His Mind Over Stephen Colbert Being Hired by CBS
"CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America," Limbaugh fumed. "No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values, conservatism. Now it's just wide out in the open. What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny, and a redefinition of what is comedy. They're blowing up the 11:30 format... they hired a partisan, so-called comedian, to run a comedy show."

Oh Rush...no one cares what you think.

Why is Rush still relevant again?
