I went to the Thrashers' season finale last night. They slaughtered Tampa, 6-2...good game, sold out crowd, great night in the city

DAMNI IT!!!! Why do the Flyers have to play the Penguins in the first round? That means about 20 penalties in each game for the Flyers, because the Pens get every damn call when they play each other. Should be an interesting series and I believe the Flyers will pull it out. Should be entertaining.

I dont get people's hangup on it having to be an Original 6 team? The Original 6 didnt play outdoors either, and unless you're born before 1967 you wouldnt remember them anyway. Caps v. Bruins would be interesting, and give the NHL a chance to showcase one of their superstars on a national stage.

I doubt whether they'd put a Canadian team in the game since this event is largely a ratings ploy for the U.S. Canadians dont need gimmicks to watch hockey. I'd also assume Montreal will play Toronto in their outdoor game in December, since it will be off the U.S. radar anyway.

That and the already had the all-star game this season.

Calgary will be playing Chicago, a team they've had a hard time against the last few years, and with Khabibulin in nets, a veritable Flame Stopper since the 2004 Finals, I don't see them advancing to the second round... again.

:csad:

This is the last team I wanted to play in the first round. Pittsburgh kinda scares me. :csad:

Biron is really the only question mark in Philly.
Calgary may have owned Chicago this season but the entire team's play has been horrible for the past two months.

Lemaire calls it quits in Minnesota
Saturday, 04.11.2009 / 11:50 PM / NHL Insider
By NHL.com Staff
After eight seasons, Jacques Lemaire is ready to move on.

Following Saturday's 6-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena, the Minnesota Wild coach announced he will not return in that capacity for the 2009-10 season. The Wild did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, going 40-33-9.

"I think it's time for the organization to get a new coach, get a new voice, try to bring this club to another level," said Lemaire, who was named the franchise's first-ever coach back in June of 2000. "When I first started, I always said there will be a time when I'll have to go. I saw that time, and it's now."

Lemaire, 63, guided the Wild to a 291-256-107 record during his eight seasons in Minnesota. The Wild's 209 wins in its first six years is the most of any of the nine NHL expansion teams since 1991. He also led the Wild to its fourth straight winning season in 2006-07 with a 48-26-8 record, setting franchise records for wins (48) and points (104).

This season, though, was a difficult one. The Wild played most of it without talented winger Marian Gaborik and experienced difficulty scoring goals. Minnesota finished with 219 tallies.

"First of all, I never thought I would stay this long," Lemaire said. "I was pleased and impressed with the fans and the people living in Minnesota. I have to say the same thing for my wife. It's a place that she loved. She was calling Minnesota her home. It was great. It's sad to leave, but we have to do it."

Lemaire understood the fans' frustration at the team's inability to score goals. He took great pleasure in Minnesota's 8-4 win against Nashville on Friday night. Twenty-four hours later, the Wild scored another six goals. But as far as the playoffs go, it was too little, too late.

"You have to please the fans," Lemaire said. "The other night, I was just happy to see the fans enjoy the game the way we did. I wish we could give them 82 games like this. They were patient and supportive."

Lemaire, who guided the New Jersey Devils to a Stanley Cup championship in 1995, believes he still has gas left in the tank. While he's finished coaching in Minnesota, he made it sound as if he'd like to be behind another team's bench as early as next season.

"I still love coaching," Lemaire said. "I'm going to work and I want to stay in the game, that's for sure. I still believe I've got a few years. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I want to stay in the game."

Could he be headed back to Montreal? Probably the only coach to resign twice, and not get fired, after two lengthy runs.

Well, I think that it is safe to say I have taken home the SHH Cup in the Fantasy League. Unless some act of god happens for The Mighty FU.

So unless anything drastic happens I will be making the Playoff Thread tomorrow at some point.

I guess I can do the playoff pool again. I'll do the same format as last season.

Playoff Pool

When doing your picks PM me. Just first round only.

I'll need winners of each game, how many games it takes and the winner of each series.

Ex. Anaheim in 6. 1.) Ducks 2.) Ducks 3.) Stars 4.) Stars 5.) Ducks 6.) Ducks

Points System

2 points for picking each individual win.
4 points for picking the correct series. (So if you get two games wrong, but still pick the correct winner in the number of games you predicted, I'll still give you 4 points.)
6 points for picking everything correctly. (Meaning each game picked right and the correct winner of the series.)

SO My Blues end up in 6th and have to face, the Canucks, I liked playing the Sharks better than this.

Jackets get the Redwings in the first round, both teams split the season series 3-3, including a 3-0 Redwings win over Columbus and a 8-2 Columbus win over Detroit, should be a great series.

Congratulations... :yay:

I'm in...

When do you need submissions?

Mike...

:yay:

I'll need submissions anytime before the first game starts. I'd prefer that I get them at least a day before the first game so I can sort them out and post them in here.

THANK YOU! Mactavish is finally gone.

Not that he isn't a good coach, he's just not a good coach for a young offensive minded team like Edmonton. I can see him doing well with teams like New Jersey or Minnesota.

I can't believe there's no mention of the Pens/Caps series on here yet. The three best players since Gretzky, Lemieux, and Jagr are all in the same series and there's no mention.

C'mon guys. I'm sure there's something to talk about.

BTW, congradulations to the Isles. I really hope that's our next superstar.

I just saw the other thread. Sorry, my bad.
