The Official Checkmate thread

agreed, checkout sucks. the rest of theserious has been pretty good. although im not fond of these artist, onepanel that art looks good, the next it's all ****ed up. jesus saiz better remain on this book. iwish the book had moreinteresting chracters in it tho. the trickster orpiperwould be nice additions, so lets hope thats where those characters are going. oh and where the **** is smasher?!

Smasher? A little bit more specific please. And all the characters are interesting, you're just lame.

And Jesus Saiz is off the book, Joe "I can't draw Mr. Terrific for ****" Bennet is. Though, he draws well enough I guess.

The cast of the book is up to 15, how many more do you need?

And I know which Smasher it is, I just like making you sweat.:o :o :o :o

kill a couple of chracters off, like vertigo and the new one they just introduced.

Um, how about they just flesh out the character they do have? Seriously, you're ****ing ridiculous.

This is maybe the first time count vertigo was worth reading to me.

Checkmate as a series is worth keeping.

I wish they could get Mary (I'm a bad-azz) Marvel into it as a rook or knight.

Doesn't matter, it's becoming Batman and the Outsiders again anyway, so you may as well keep on it if that's your thing.

Damn, that sucks. I could use that Conan "ASS" stamp right about now.

Don't worry though, after Outsiders #50, it'll be relaunched a month later as Batman and the Outsiders. It'll have a new writer (Winick has been getting stale on the title so this is a good thing). And a much better direction (it'll basically be the new Justice League Elite).

Very true, but the thing I was so excited about was that I could finally get my Nightwing fix. Jones's run was awful, but even Wolfman wasn't satisfying, so I dropped it. The final scene between Dick and Bruce in Checkout was better than anything I read in Nightwing all year.

Now it looks as though he's off the team.

I'm glad he is. Especially since there's rumors of a new Titans book comming soon.

The art will however still suck.
Yeah, Koi Turnbull looks like a wannabe J. Scott Campbell, and Campbell himself isn't that great. :o

Ironic, given that Batman was steadfastly against the Justice League Elite. I wonder if we'll get a good explanation of what changed his mind or if we'll get the now-standard "lolz that other thing happened before Infinite Crisis so it doesn't count" one. :o

JL Elite was pretty violently hardcore, led by the sister of a raging maniac.

A bit different, IMO.

The Elite was. The JL Elite wasn't--they just staged things to appear that way so they could build their street cred. They were certainly darker than the Justice League, but they weren't two steps shy of villains or anything. Not the good members, I mean.

I figured Batman's reasoning for endorsing the Outsiders as a similarly proactive, under-the-radar sort of team would be because of his own direct supervision, but it's kind of a big 180 from basically wanting to shut the JL Elite down without even considering the benefits of their services.

Meh.

I only have a mild issue with "I'm a militant Green Martian" and "I'm sorta King of the seven Seas" Taking direction from "I don't trust Superhumans"

Other than that,... I'm hoping thees Outsiders do well.

(I can see Grace taking a swing on Aquaman - Metamorpho arguing with Martian Manhunter.)

And which Catwoman is this? Are there not Two? And when did she decide to be a "superhero."???

A lot of my enjoyment of Batman and the Outsiders is going to hinge on the relationship between J'onn and Bruce. They should really, really be equals, and I'm hoping Bedard portrays them thus rather than having Bruce give J'onn orders and J'onn obediently follows them. Plus, given J'onn's recent involvement with [blackout]Checkmate[/blackout], he really should be considered Batman's equal or even his superior for the kind of things the Outsiders are supposed to be doing.

As for which Catwoman it is, it's most likely Selina. The Outsiders are supposed to do a lot of undercover and under-the-radar stuff, and Batman is currently having Selina use her villain cred for an undercover mission in the Catwoman comic. She'll probably do a good job, leading Bats to consider her for the Outsiders.

Why does J'onn look like someone took a bite out of his head?

Because Turnbull apparently thinks he's scaly or that Martians have crests or something. Notice the Skrull chin, too. Turnbull's got his universes and his green shapeshifting alien races mixed up. :o

If they had gotten rid of Grace and Thunder as well, I would consider buying this. Grace never was interesting and Thunder, well no one cares.

I don't mind Grace. She's not a deep character at all, but she's usually fun in a fight. Thunder just sucks. I'm still disappointed that Rex is on the team instead of Shift, but I guess it's better than Shift being all emo after Indigo died.

Well it's not official that he's on the team yet right? I mean, all these one shots are like versus titles, one will stand, one will fall type stuff, and Aquanewb and Metamorpho are battling each other in one of those.

I don't know. Aquanewb's presence wouldn't make up for Shift's absence anyway. Shift committed suicide by hopping back into Rex, so he'll never be on the team. :(

I still think the Catwoman is Holly for some odd inexplicable reason.
