The Official GHOSTBUSTERS Thread

The guy playing Mayor Jock Mulligan is Bill Murray's older brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, that's why they look alike. Brian was also in GB2 as the Psychiatrist in the mental institution the Ghostbusters are taken to.

The More you know...

Can't see why he'd be an alternative skin. You know what would be cool in terms of alternative costumes for the the four guys? Ghost versions of each of them, ones that kind of look like that Best Buy "Ghoul" skin.
There was an episode of "The Real Ghostbusters" that I remember, where Peter was suppose to properly dispose of their original jumpsuits, "ruined after their fight with Gozer," but Pete just dumps em in a box behind the containment unit where the "ghost residue" builds up and ghosts manifest themselves in the suits looking like ghost versions of the ghostbusters.
And it probably wouldn't be too hard to develop. Just make their current skins blue and translucent.

I think that would be cool, but that's just me. Ghost-Ghostbusters would be a cool boss too. I want this game so much, it isn't healthy.

That episode is actually on the slimpack DVD boxset of the two movies I have. That actually would be fairly cool

Yea those 2 episodes were cool b/c they made mention of their exploits in 1 and 2.

Im so ready for this game. So, so ready.

So, in a way...we'll be playing as Bill Murray.

I mean, Brian Murray...whatever. He's got Bill Murray-like genes and he looks enough like him.

I wonder if this means unlockable skins will be in the game. Playing as the Ghostbusters themselves.

Can't see why he'd be an alternative skin.

Me neither. But they just cut it out of the webpage...so I dunno.

Btw, I know some don't like the cover.

I imagine that there can be an alternative cover made by fans. My brother has downloaded different covers for NBA 2K9 and MLB 09 THE SHOW, with different cover athletes. Printed it out, and it fit perfectly well into the game cases.

I can't see why a black, classic Ghostbusters logo custom cover couldn't be made for us to download. Somewhere.

Thatd be easy to do. Just get the template for the 360 cover then add your classic no ghost logo.

I actually like the cover tho. Reminds be of the Ghostbusters II DVD cover. With the 3 guys and the Scoleri Bros above.

Guys, something has happened and I'm not sure what to make of it:

http://kotaku.com/5242106/sony-now-publishing-ghostbusters-non+sony-releases-threatened

Yesterday, Ghostbusters was being published by Atari, and was due to be released across PS3, 360, PS2, Wii and DS. Today, in a strange move, that's no longer the case.

According to MCV, Sony have "negotiated a shock 11th-hour deal", whereby the PS3 and PS2 versions of the game will be released not by Atari, but by Sony Computer Entertainment. Those versions will be released on June 19, the same day that the film's due out on Blu-Ray.

But what about the other versions? The fact there's no official word on them is worrying, but MCV say (and this is still unconfirmed) they'll still be published by Atari, albeit after they're delayed until "later in the year".

You know, I couldn't but wonder about this, as Ghostbusters was a Sony owned franchise. Though, as the article says, there is no confirmation that the other versions are actually being delayed. All we know right now is that the date for the PS3 and PS2 versions are now June 19th

Well, right after I posted this Joystiq put up an article on the subject, like seriously, at the time of showing this they posted it just 3 minutes ago. In the article they confirm two things: The PSP version has been revived and will be released later in the year, and that the other non-Sony versions of the game published by Atari are being delayed later into the year.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it will be publishing Ghostbusters in Europe this June, meaning that the game is now a PS3 and PS2 exclusive in the region. Not only that, but the rumored and debunked PSP version has also been confirmed for release later this autumn. The PS3 and PS2 versions are currently set for a June 19 debut.

Eurogamer has confirmed with Atari that the deal is for timed exclusivity on Sony platforms, with all other versions being released "later in the year." It's certainly a strange move on Atari's part, especially when limiting their potential consumer base is being called "maximizing the launch of the Ghostbusters videogame across Europe" by Atari's VP of Worldwide Marketing. Pushing non-Sony versions further towards or, even worse, into Q4 won't do the 360, Wii and DS versions any favors.

Now, the thing I am noticing is that they are only taking about Europe, where as the Kotaku article does not make that distinction. I'm not sure if Kotaku is a Euro-based site, so I'm not sure. Either way, this really sucks for Wii/360 owners who were playing on picking this up come June for whatever regions this taking place in

I wonder if Microsoft is going to sue Atari ? & they should if a contract was breached. Oh well now this game will fail & not make the same type of money it would multiplatform on release day

It will fail? No, I doubt that. It may mean a few more sales for the PS3 version, but I doubt the Wii/360 users are just going to drop they game when it comes out later this year. It's not as if this is like Bioshock or Vesperia were it was never revealed it would be multiplarformed until nearly a year later. Fans will grit the teeth, and rightfully so, but there's no way they will just drop the game

Ghostbusters is not a big enough name for any type of exclusivity especially for the PS3 where more own a 360. So yes in that light it will fail. But I do wonder if a contract was breached with Microsoft's deal & as history shows timed exclusive games fail. Unreal Tournament: 3 anyone ?

I'm guessing it only applies for Europe. There's waaayyy too many pre-orders for it already (plus deals and products being released as well).

I'm not going to get into a fanboy console dick measuring argument with you. I'm sticking by what I say. I just don't think the people looking forward to getting this are going to just abandon it when it comes out on the 360/Wii.

This is what I'm thinking as well. It makes more sense in Europe since the PS3 and 360 are pretty close, but the Kotaku article doesn't specify or anything. Either way, it's a ****** move for whoever

Yeah, I was just about to post that. The article at Joystiq basically said it and Kotaku just updated their original story. This definitely makes more sense, with the console race being so much closer in that region Sony probably wanted to add another exclusive, albeit timed, to the roster.

Either way, this sucks for the people in the PAL region who wanted the game and only own a 360/Wii. I hope you don't have to wait long for it.

Yeah. I mean, if this were a worldwide thing, and announced ages ago... maybe, but I only see this benefitting the PS2 version.

**** you sony....**** you...

only game i'm looking forward to pushed back, AGAIN...**** you... now i have to book more holidays to play it all...bastards...

Just for the sake of clarification:

Following this morning's announcement of Sony's exclusive PAL Ghostbusters publishing deal, Atari clarifies their publishing plans for North America, including the release of the PSP version worldwide.

While Wii, DS, and Xbox 360 fans will be left out of the ghostbusting loop this June in PAL regions, North American fans can rest assured that they'll be busting with the best of them come June 16th. That's when the game launches across all platforms save the PlayStation Portable, which scores a worldwide release of its previously denied version of the game this fall, with Sony handling publishing duties in Europe and the UK.

I know we already established this, but this is the official press release on the subject from Atari and Sony.

Also, for those who have interest:

Buried in plain sight in Sony Europe's announcement on the PAL timed exclusivity of Ghostbusters on the PlayStations 3 and 2, the PSP looks to be getting its own version of the game after all.

A listing for the PSP version of Ghostbusters: The Videogame appeared on the ESRB ratings site in early April, only to have Atari deny that such a version was in the works a few days later. Perhaps the reason behind Atari's denial was the fact that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is publishing the PSP version in PAL regions this fall, or perhaps they just didn't want to ruin the surprise. Well...surprise!

We contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America to inquire as to whether or not the PSP version would be releasing stateside as well, and were informaed that SCEA had no plans to publish Ghostbusters. Looks like the ball is still in Atari's court here in the states!

Fairly strange move for them to deny the version exists and all that. Unless it was actually canceled at one point and Sony has decided to just reinstate it.

Wow, i was about to FLIP out for a second before i realized i had a PS3 and would have just bought the game on that console. Man, i can breath now.

Eh, no i think you are pretty much wrong on that. Ghostbusters is one of THE most recognized franchises in the world. The "NO-GHOST" logo is the most known logo in the world second only to Coca-Cola. This is a big enough game to carry an exclusive.

I agree, especially since their going to marketing as the third movie in interactive form. That's definitely going to get a lot of attention

All I can say is that I'm damn glad to have a PS3 in case this nonsense spreads to NA.

Hahaha. I'm with ya man. I mean i would've gone out and canceled my 360 order and placed it on the PS3 version no prob, but i just want to go with the 360 due to Live. Still, i WILL be playing this game come June 16th. Its been delayed once and i will not wait any longer.

EDIT: Nah, it was joke, but I think most would probably think I was serious, so I better not say it
