The Official Godzilla Movie Thread

One of the better size comparison charts I've seen.

Hype shrinks everything now.

Now I want to see Godzilla vs Slattern. :woot:

I was actually excited for this movie until I found out Aaron Johnson was gonna be the lead now I'm not so exited...still holding out hope though.

Edit: Johnson is far from the worst actor, however I'm just not a fan and have no strong desire to see any film led by him.

To be honest I don't know who he is except I think he is going to be Quick Silver. He can't be as bad as Matthew Broderick; love the guy, but not a good performance/movie.

BBFC just rated the trailer:
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/godzilla-filmtrailer-0

Clocking in at 2 minutes and 13 seconds.

I'm happy.

Despite my dislike for the way The Hobbit "trilogy" is being handled, I was leaning towards seeing the second film mostly for Cumberbatch's Smaug, but now that the Godzilla trailer is for sure attached, I'm officially on board for opening weekend.

Aaron Johnson is one of the most talented actors of his generation, he's that good. Nowhere Boy, Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2, Savages, Albert Nobbs, he's even convincing imo in Anna Karenina. This guy is blowing up, and he deserves it big time.

If you're not a Hobbit fan, still go and see it just for this trailer alone, it's tremendous.

Kraken Releasing are going to release three classic Godzilla movies on Blu-Ray this summer to coincide with the release of the Legendary/Warner Bros. Godzilla reboot:
Godzilla vs Hedorah
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep
Godzilla vs Gigan

If only everyone who had the rights would release the movies this year.

(grumbles about not being able to get a 60th anniversary collection)

Kraken Releasing Licenses Ebirah Horror of the Deep, Godzilla vs. Hedorah & Godzilla vs. Gigan

January 21, 2014 - 1967 may have been the Summer of Love, but 2014 will be the Summer of Godzilla®, and Kraken Releasing is spreading the kaiju (giant monster) goodness with the first U.S. Blu-ray release of three classic films featuring the world's most famous giant reptile. Also available on DVD, and including both the English dubbed and original Japanese versions with English subtitles, these are three of the big G's wildest adventures ever and showcase why, sixty years after his atomic birth at Japan's TOHO Studios, Godzilla® is still one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry!

The fun begins as 1971's Godzilla® vs.Hedorah™, released theatrically in the U.S in 1972 as Godzilla® vs. the Smog Monster, pits Godzilla® against the forces of pollution in the form of a constantly mutating, acid-spewing behemoth from outer space. With eye-popping 1970's “mod” costumes, hairstyles and psychedelic visuals that include conventional cel animation alongside the special effects by Teruyoshi Nakano, Godzilla® vs. Hedoarh™ director Yoshimitsu Banno's ecologically focused take on the world's greatest monster is easily one of the most unique films in the series and required viewing for any giant monster fan or cult film enthusiast.

What happens when three major movie monsters slam dance in the South Seas? The answer is 1966's Ebirah™, Horror of the Deep, originally released in the U.S. in 1968 under the title Godzilla® Vs. The Sea Monster. Pairing Godzilla® and another of TOHO's most popular kaiju, the giant moth Mothra™, against a wide variety of adversaries, including the titular sea monster, giant birds and a mysterious terrorist organization, the wet and wild widescreen spectacular was directed by Jun Fukuda.

Finally, 1972's Godzilla® vs. Gigan™ ups the giant monster ante once again with a series of tag team battles featuring four classic kaiju. Released theatrically in the United States in 1977 as Godzilla® on Monster Island and again directed by Jun Fukuda with special effects by Teruyoshi Nakano, the film unites Godzilla® and spiny ally Anguirus™ against two of the series' most popular opponents: the three headed monster King Ghidorah™ and the new alien cyborg Gigan™.

This year is going to be very Zilla-fied, from toys, comics, and of course movies. While I have Sony's Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster DVD, getting these three classic showa films on Blu-Ray is an absolute must for any G-Fan. Plus I missed out in getting Sony's Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Godzilla vs. Gigan DVD releases couple years back. Well, pretty much all the over releases from them I've missed, except for the Heisei films and the 2000 films onward.

And from the pain of missing out on Destroy All Monsters on Blu-Ray, I'm not going to miss out on any more releases that may come this year and onward. :yay:

Awesome. I've always thought Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster (Ebirah Horror of the Deep) is kind of an underrated entry from the showa era.

The older movies getting re-released is a nice side effect of the new movie that I hadn't considered. I'll definitely take more if they're willing to put them out.

I agree with the exception that I do think he is one of the worst actors right now. The new Godzilla movie some amazing actors in it. With Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins and David Strathairn in the cast, Aaron Johnson's name sticks out in a bad way.

Is there a reason why they release the Godzilla films in dribs and drabs like this? Is the market just not there to support a whole bunch of them being released at once? I personally would love if it they put out a really nice complete collection similar to that Bond 50 set.

There's a market for them, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla (The Criterion Collection) and Godzilla vs. Megalon were all released in 2012 and fans bought them like hot cakes and supported the releases graciously. So there is a market for Godzilla films.

And there have been plenty collections of Godzilla released waay back in 2005 by Sony and those were bought as well. This was due to the whole buzz about Final Wars and Toho sending Godzilla into hibernation.

Why there aren't many released is due to either licensing knots between some company and Toho, another company has the film rights but just doesn't want to spend money and put out another release with an expensive transfer. And of course, some companies just don't want to spend money despite any profit that will and can be made.

This year might be different, new Godzilla movie, and already 4 Godzilla films are getting re-released: King Kong vs. Godzilla, Ebirah Horror of the Deep, Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster, and Godzilla vs. Gigan.

Hell, even Godzilla The Series is having a complete series collection being released this April.(Which I'm actually happy for since I do enjoy this series and apperciate the work into correcting the flaws of GINO and being more toho-like)

So there is a resurgence of Godzilla films, we don't know the exact size of it just yet but it is there. And it might continue to grow throughout the year. I expect another re-release of Gojira/King of the Monsters to be done soon enough for the icon's 60th anniversary.

its still a shame the destroy all monsters blu ray is such a rip off. i've seen it go on ebay for nearly £200

and i'd love a 84/85 release its the only one i've never seen

ok guys i already own Gojira dvd from a few years ago this one

Taking advantage of the growing interest for Warner Bros and Legendary’s GODZILLA remake, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release their two Toho King Kong films — KING KONG VS GODZILLA and KING KONG ESCAPES — on Blu-ray on April 1st, 2014. The Blu-rays will include the Americanized, English dubbed versions of both movies, remastered in High Definition.

KING KONG VS GODZILLA

US Theatrical Release: June 26, 1963

The two biggest monsters of all time battle in the thrilling adventure classic, KING KONG VS GODZILLA. When an underhanded pharmaceutical company goes to a remote tropical island to steal King Kong for advertising purposes, they get more than they bargained for when the gigantic ape attacks an unsuspecting village and an enormous octopus. Meanwhile, far below the sea, a submarine crew unleashes reptilian terror when they melt a block of ice and release the ferocious Godzilla from his icy lair.

When both destructive monsters descend on Tokyo, it’s a fight that holds the future of mankind in the balance in this knock-out film that was the first theatrical release to bring its larger-than-life contenders to the big screen in glorious color.

Yes folks, once more we tell that Universal Studios are re-releasing these two films on Blu-Ray, they are using the same cover art of the DVDs though. And there don't seem to be anything Japanese tracks, then again, that deal is still in effect between Toho and Universal.

This guy is reviewing all the Godzilla movies on YouTube. The first part is titled GODZILLA'S GOLDEN AGE: GODZILLA MOVIE REVIEW SERIES PART ONE.
