The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 1

A couple of the reviews criticise Ryan Reynolds, but the vast majority of even the negative reviews say that his performance is one of the better aspects of the movie, and it's just the script that lets him down.

They seem to say he's just doing his usual goofy shtick. Playing himself.

That came out wrong. FIRST CLASS deserves it's title in terms of quality film-making and the sheer awesomeness of Micheal Fassbender. It's just that you would never expect this quality from current day 20trh Century Fox after X-MEN 3 & WOLVERINE

Screw Fox but hats off to Matthew Vaughn & Crew.
Hats off to Fox for hiring them, no?

EDIT:

On the other hand. I expected a Green tinted Batman Begins from DC
You expected too much. :D

Maybe this failed so that superman next year can be a smash hit....?

please god

Same with me  **** the critics!

Critics do not affect the BO as much we're led to believe (just look at Pirates 4's haul so far), but they do give us an inkling of what the movie would be like, in terms of quality. Ultimately, if the moviegoers like what they see, they'll tell their friends about it and drives the box office upward, but if the movie is poor (as the critics said in their reviews), there is a greater possibility that it will end up as a flop and a disappointment.

I am worried but as a fan , I will take my chances and go down with my ship . The consequences imo are far worse if the film flops than me wasting 2hrs of my time on a potebtially bad film ...... I like Michael Bay films so I may like this

Judging by the reviews, it has the same problem as Thor. It doesn't take it's source material seriously or sincerely and is a bit too jokey. Also, Ryan is apparently playing himself and doesn't portray a sense of wonder or awe.

I'm not really a green lantern fan, if my graphic novel collection was 100% the green lantern probably makes up about 0.5% so maybe not the best judge but I know enough about GL mythology to know what type of character hal jordan is and when I heard ryan reynolds was cast I was like, 'REALLY?' he seemed much more a kyle rayner type of actor, I was thinking someone more the lines of nathan fillian (cliche I know) older, more serious, commanding and then when I saw the trailer and heard the now imfamous 'I KNOW, RIGHT?!' my worst fears were confirmed.

I'm really beginning to dislike reynolds, he f***ed up blade 3 and I'll never forgive him for that, he was annoyong as heck in wolverine and now it 'seems' (watching the movie friday) he's screwed up GL. I'm really hoping they cast someone else for deadpool as ryan reyonalds is the kiss of death for any comic book franchise (well, maybe not x-men).

If Green Lantern is as good as Thor , I will be a happy camper . Thor was excllent fun . I love Batman but not every comic book film needs to be brooding . Batman does but different charcters need different tone

I can understand complaints about Thor, I have more then a few of my own. But the core of the film, Thor, Loki and Odin, takes the source material very seriously.

Unlike Pirates, though, Green Lantern doesn't have an installed film fanbase. The first Pirates was awesome, and while I personally didn't much care for them, the rest of the general public seemed to love its sequels, so it made sense for those same folks to rush out and see the fourth film.

I've also seen people bring up the first Transformers film as a critically panned movie that was a success, but the Transformers franchise is pretty iconic. I would rate it right up there with Superman and Spider-Man in terms of brand recognition. Green Lantern, while it has its fans, is still relatively niche by comparison. It's not going to be carried very far by its name alone.

Personally, I had no plans on seeing this in the theatres, but if I had heard good things I would have. Now, however, I'm thinking this is probably going to wind up in my Netflix queue six months or so from now, and that will be the end of it for me.

Thor if anything, should have the style of Lord of the Rings
Green Lantern should be like STAR TREK or Star Wars

That's a point? Remember when Luke & Han goofed around in Tatooine?
No, exactly. Because that never happened. This is assuming there is plenty of goofing off in Green Lantern

I think Superman will get good reviews but disappointing box office. That Christmas period is crowded with competition from The Hobbit, Star Trek II, The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp attached, etc

I'm going to rage hard if the movie actually sucks and fanboys still insist in seeing it 10 times each in a desperate attempt to get a sequel out of it through their personal efforts.

I know us North Americans have a way of celebrating mediocrity, but we shouldn't throw our money at crap.

time for DC to start handing movie making chores to other studios?
Thats never going to happen WB would never allow another studio to make a dime off their characters plus it would be humilating if another studio can turn characters they couldn't into a box office smash
reynolds is 0/3 for superhero movies it seems
He gives the Superhero franchise the kiss of death :funny:

(joking by the way before I get start getting flamed:cwink:)

How many times are they allowed to see it if they really like it, master?

I thought thor was an excellent movie and they seemed to take the source material seriously. after reading some of these reviews I'm hoping I have HALF as much fun watching GL lantern.

Clearly you missed the prequels.

I think the movie is not going to be as bad as people are making it out to be.

Calm yourself poppet.
But really, are people so ******ed they need to see a film half a dozen times before they realize it isn't any good?

I wonder if Campbell confirming he won't be back for sequels has anything to do with the anticipation that this won't be good.

I hated SR and i still saw twice( regular screen on opening night and then later on Imax 3d) on the theaters and about 5 times at home and i own the dvd.

Chris Pine as Hal Jordan & Zachary Quinto as Carol Ferris would have been amazing
This was my cast idea after Star Trek 2009. Every time I like a movie, I want to see that cast in everything

Calm yourself poppet.

Most of the reviews are just lukewarm, why is it out of the question that some people will actually genuinely enjoy it?
