if you're going to praise RDJ for playing himself, you may as well be fair and do the same for Reynolds. I don't read Hal Jordan GL but many people are saying this is how Hal is supposed to be...
I think that both RDJ and RR do a great job of playing themselves in their respective comicbook movies, the difference is, Iron Man is a much better film.

I don't really care if fanboys hate RR, all I know is I like him. He did a good job in a movie that didn't deserve his talents.

I dont think fanboys hate RR, he seems like a cool and funny dude, and most fanboys seem to back him. Even the negative reviews give reynolds his cake and let him eat it too.

To the haters, lets put this in perspective. This is where the bar was. :)

Hulk ran in slow-motion during each 40-second-maximum appearance per episode on a boring TV drama...didn't keep Hulk the movie from feeling like a suicidal mess. Sometimes a movie is just bad...regardless of what's worse.

Hulk as in AngHulk?

lolno that was good. Much better than nortons, though I enjoyed that too.

Jack Black.

*Leaves thread*

:awesome:

That said, a few of my relatives went to see it today and enjoyed it. My mom loved it.

Theirs some positiveness this thread needs.

Is anyone here going to see it again in theaters?

To each their own, but I thought it was ridiculously horrible. And worse prior versions didn't help that. :O

I basically just came back from seeing it, and enjoyed it alot. However it's not without it's share of flaws. If the acting wasn't so consistently good in my opinion then I would have thought that the movie was decent overall. I give the movie a 8/10. I would bump the mark up more if it was even more faithful and if it had focused on the cosmic side some more, I sincerely don't understand the hate for the movie, not one bit. At all. By the way, the movie reminds me of Superman, and I like that. It's weird considering how I'm not much of a fan of Superman or his movies. Actually, in my case it's because of the fact that Superman was the first major comic book movie that got the theatrical treatment.
 Wasn't it fun? The first hour was amazing. The movie gets a little bit bad by 2/3 but it redeems itself in the final battle. Watched all the tv spots and featurettes so some of the scenes were ruined because i knew what was going to happen but the movie still had some share of surprises that made it all worth. Seeing it in 3D enhanced everything too.

Your mom liked it, huh? Hmm. Well is she liked it, I must be wrong...

Having just returned for the glorious 3D print, I'm giving the film 7.2 out 10. 22% at rottentomatoes.com? A joke.

Longer review later but it has it's share of problems, mostly from a lack of clear backstory that's hinted at in the film between Hal, Carol, and Hector.

Harry Knowles said it best in his review: it's essentially Singer's first X-Men film. A prelude to something much, much bigger and I can see why the hardcore fans are upset at it. It's issue 1 and they wanted issue 30.

Still, I'd have to say that I have it tied with Thor, in term of enjoyment, but for very, very different reasons.

Still, 22%? Feels like a lot of group think to me...

The problem with that argument is that X-Men was blazing new cinematic ground, whereas Green Lantern is another in a long line.

One created the modern superhero template, the other tries to follow it and fails.

I wonder if the positive reviewers here were GL fans/readers? The reason I'm asking is because of my personal experience with GhostRider. I'm a fan of GhostRider and when the movie initially released, I thought it was above average, receiving a little too much criticism. Well, after watching it several times after it's BR/DVD release, I can tell you I absolutely agree with the criticisms. The same thing happened for me and Wolverine...

It was fun, I can't believe how good the acting was overall because of Ryan, Mark, Blake, and Peter. Now that I think of it, I am a little disappointed with the 3D, the constructs didn't come off as being in 3D mode. Another great thing about the movie imo is how fresh it comes off as from a visual stand point, I think that there was a lot of moments that were like that. Unusual moments that is. Hector Hammond was a surprisingly refreshing villain thanks to his personality and his moments. Another problem that I got (it's minor though) is how we were barely able to see which GL Corps members fought Parallax in the third act. I was only able to identify two of them correctly.

 I think the problem is that this movie was converted to 3D and not shot like Avatar so i dont think there was planning to make the constructs pop out. But seeing all the space scenes in 3D was freaking amazing.

Eh, I dont feel like going over why I liked it, but I agree, I don't think too higly on the original show.

.....Or he / she was just saying that not everyone in the world hates it.

Unfortunately, for the uninitiated like my wife, she understood why the film focused solely on Hal Jordan and not "the Corps and Hal Jordan".

The concept is too odd for the general audience to just jump right in with the adventures of the Corp and this human Hal Jordan, which is essentially want the fanbase really wanted.

They don't care about Hal. They care about other Corp members and with Hal along for the ride.

They're Impatient! The budget would have to be 5 billion to make a movie like that.

Too odd? The general audience had no problem accepting the Na'vi in Avatar. The difference is, Cameron believed in the strength of his world, while those behind GL obviously did not.

Honestly, for me Green Lantern makes up for Superman Returns (this is coming from someone who likes it on one hand) and all of the awful Superman sequels.

just got back from a 3D showing. save your money and see it in 2D. to be honest, there were scenes that i thought the 3D actually made it look worse.

as far as the movie itself goes, the thing that hurt it the most was the script. very bad in my opinion. i mean the only thing that really made me cringe was some of the dialogue. plus, this movie could have used an extra 15-20 minutes so it could go more in depth. it felt like the movie was just jumping from place to place with not much explanation.

the entertainment factor was good however. bottom line, if you can turn your brain off it is an enjoyable movie.

i'd give it a C-

I just want to say that I thought this movie pretty bad. Its not the worst thing I've ever seen but its just not very good. The story was very weak and for a movie that should of been heavy in sci-fi. There wasn't much science in it at all unless you consider the power of will power a energy we just haven't considered enough.

You don't need to turn your brain off in order to enjoy the movie. Unless you're a tad too pessimistic, skeptical, and unfair.

You could say the same thing about fans of Superman. They're tired of the origin. They're tired of Lex. They want more than what's been hinted at in the films.

Yes, the Lantern mythos are deep and are clearly more interesting than the origin of one Lantern.

Still, WB had to go this route with the material. Yes, it's the same generic origin story we've seen countless times but jumping right in wouldn't have worked either.

Yes, this origin story could've been told better. In fact, I'm almost convinced that the character connective tissue was cut from the film, probably at the last minute to make sure the film's pace never lets up...to hide how odd the concept is. Thor felt exactly the same way in its pace.

But, what Lantern has over Thor is superb action sequences (both films action is rooted in character, which is good) that make sense, better visual effects, and some serious scope.

More than anything else, this is the one comic book movie that actually embraces the fact that its based on a comic book. It's the most comic book-y film I've seen in this genre, period.

Havent seen it yet, but the excuses why the corps didnt fight are really flimsy.
