I thought that the storytelling was well done. I was able to keep up from start to finish, well basically.

Well, the Corp would've fought had it Parallax made it to Oa. That's pretty much stated in the film.

Having Hal take on Parallax is classic hero mythology, classic Hollywood stuff. For the introduction, you can't have Hal have back up with his first challenge. Bay did it with Transformers. It made no sense for Sam to defeat Megatron but because our connection to the film is with Sam and not technically the Autobots, Sam takes him out. I didn't particularly like it in that film but Hal taken down Parallax works.

I wonder how Hal knew that the
sun would help stop Parallax.

I don't think that he knew that because of the galactic encyclopedia.

You don't need to turn your brain off in order to enjoy the movie. Unless you're a tad too pessimistic, skeptical, and unfair.

Or just have a different brain....

;)

Jesus effing christo on a stick, there is so much hostility in this thread...and I thought Spider-Man fans were bad.

You could say the same thing about fans of Superman. They're tired of the origin. They're tired of Lex. They want more than what's been hinted at in the films.

Yes, the Lantern mythos are deep and are clearly more interesting than the origin of one Lantern.

Still, WB had to go this route with the material. Yes, it's the same generic origin story we've seen countless times but jumping right in wouldn't have worked either.

Yes, this origin story could've been told better. In fact, I'm almost convinced that the character connective tissue was cut from the film, probably at the last minute to make sure the film's pace never lets up...to hide how odd the concept is. Thor felt exactly the same way in its pace.

But, what Lantern has over Thor is superb action sequences (both films action is rooted in character, which is good) that make sense, better visual effects, and some serious scope.

More than anything else, this is the one comic book movie that actually embraces the fact that its based on a comic book. It's the most comic book-y film I've seen in this genre, period.

For me the Earth scenes sucked after Hal visited Oa for the first time. I was more curious to see what were the other Green Lanterns doing / space on goings then what was happening on Earth. They should have just done a Live Action First Flight movie. Aside from the Earth stuff the movie was great if you ignore that

Havent seen it yet, but the excuses why the corps didnt fight are really flimsy.

There was one scene where
Sinestro and some other Lanterns fought Parralex, but it was cut short due to it being a story told by Sinestro to the Guardians and not a live fight.

It was awesome, but I wish we saw more.

This is nothing compared to the SHH forums back in 2006 when X-Men The Last Stand and Superman Returns were released. It was a bloodbath, and some of us still have the scars.

Bad times, bad times :csad:

Wait, so them fighting Parallax wasn't actually happening and was just an old story that was told and shown?

I assume SM3 wasn't much better time to be around here.... :o :oldrazz:

No. It did happen. The tried to fight Parallax and failed then that's how he got the idea to make the yellow ring. He thought the willpower wasnt strong enough to defeat it.

Well, they at least had Spidey 2 and 3 under their belts. Proabably a bit harder to take when the first step lands squarely in ****. :O

I actually think that's about the time I took a long-term hiatus from here. Only recently came back with the last few eps of Smallville.

And then the finale hit.....

:D

And that's when we lost (I think) G'Hu, Isamot, Green man, and M'Dhanna. :csad:

I am pretty sure that scene was happening real time since Sinestro earlier requested to take a squad & try to defeat the bad guy

I can't believe people compared this to the Fantastic Four movies and other awful comic book movie adaptions. They are crazy, literally and in a bad way.
