The great and hilarious Topless Robot recounts the best scenes from Green Lantern.

Oh man

That is hilarious yet at the same time sooooo depressing

How do writers that overlook so many HUGE inconsistencies manage to get to a position writing such expensive movies?

Ugh. I really hope they don't give these guys anymore projects, ESPECIALLY my beloved superhero movies. If anyone deserves to be a scapegoat, it's the writers.

regardless, I'm still gonna be getting the blu-ray

not because I think the studio deserves it, but because I really want to see what space scenes there are in 1080p

Oh, I'm so about this Blu Ray when it hits this fall.

A lot of the legit criticism is warranted, but this is one of those instances where I can't deny the pleasure of this film because of it's flaws. I've done that in the past with other films, but not this one.

I can critique it and think about what I would've done differently in comparison to what we got but at the end of the day, I just like this film...warts and all.

And if WB releases it on Blu Ray in 3D, I'm so getting it. It's best 3D I've seen in the theatre since this whole 3D craze took off. I'm actively looking to upgrade the TV to 3D just for this release (I have other 3D Blu Rays...).

What really pains me is that Ryan Reynolds was really likeble in this and gave a really great performance considering the odds.

I feel the worst for him because he really did do a good job.

I thought everyone but Tim Robbins (He went camp) put in a solid to very good performance.

Mark Strong really embodied Sinestro better than I expected. I liked him in terms of portrayal the best. I wasn't annoyed by Reynolds like I was prepared to be, either.

Tim Robbins is normally a dependable enough actor, but he was woefully mistcast as Hammond's father. The two look about the same age for crying out loud.

In addition to being totally ineffectual, Tim Robbins was also a waste of money. What did he bring to the proceedings other than name recognition? I like Tim Robbins quite a bit too, but this might as well have been some random white haired older man off the streets.

Random complaint: as far as actors are concerned, can we stop pretending like Ryan Reynolds is an unknown? The dude's been working at an A-list status for a decade now. Chris Hemsworth was an unknown. Reynolds may not be a 30 million dollar paycheck Tom Cruise level super star, but the guy is certainly not an unknown. Even the dumbasses I work with at Walmart know who he is. No one knew who Hemsworth was, even the people who liked Star Trek. If the mouth breathers I work with, who can't help but make 5th grade level joke anytime anyone says a phrase that includes any variation on the word "hard" or "behind," actually like movies like Delta Farce, and dislike To Kill a Mockingbird because it's in black and white, know who you are, then you're not an unknown.

Am I the only one that thinks that its kind of sad that none of the Green Lanterns went to Earth to get Abin's body & give it a proper burial ? They talk about how important he was but they let his body just rot on Earth

That didn't happen in the comics, and in real life the government would have extracted the body for study (like they did in the film). That was treated properly.

In Secret Origins Sinestro went to Earth to find Abin Sur's body.

I'm sure that somebody will pencil and ink that and put it in the next issue of Mad Magazine. Dimension films is probably penning their version for "Superhero Movie 2" right now.

I said in my review, something to the effect that Tim Robbins delivered a performance that would make a cigar store indian proud.

I'm not saying Marvel makes bad films. I like them just the same! But it's about the mindset and philosophy behind making those films.

Marvel throws everything at the wall to see what sticks. Some turn out well ("Iron Man", "Spider-Man", "X-Men:First Class"), others not so much...("Elektra", "Daredevil", "Ghost Rider").

DC deliberates on how to bring a film to the screen. Batman '89 was in development since after "Superman" with Chris Reeve. "Superman Returns" went through 19 years of Kevin Smith, Tim Burton, McG, and Brett Ratner before being made. "Green Lantern" was almost made with Jack Black and Robert Smigel. "Watchmen".

Granted, "Spider-Man" was in development with James Cameron, but it's like DC tries to make the circumstances perfect, whereas Marvel will make "Hulk" and takes the chance, and if it's not the success they hoped for, hey, there's always the reboot option, like what they're doing now with "Fantastic Four" and "Daredevil".

Even if what you said is true about DC deliberates when it comes to make superhero movies, you are suggesting that due to the deliberation DC tends to make better movies by comparison, but is that really the case? Let's take a look at all the superhero movies DC has made thus far:

Superman
Superman 2
Superman 3
Superman 4
Superman Returns
Supergirl
Batman '89
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Batman & Robin
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
Catwoman
Steel
Watchmen

I'm excluding movies that were based on comics and graphic novels but not technically superheroes, such as Constantine, V for Vandetta, LXG, and Jonah Hex. Looking at the list, I think DC makes less superhero movies, but their batting percentage isn't really higher than Marvel's. Both companies have made amazing films, but both are also susceptible to bombs and crappy movies.

Very sad.

Silly but serious question. Since our sun is YELLOW wouldn't our GL be more powerful AWAY from our sun? Often wondered that really.

I'm going to say that for some reason or reasons that the sun wasn't capable of making him fearful despite being yellow. In the movie, it wasn't like "Everything that is yellow represents fear." The GL Corps only feared Parallax, not the sun. I think that it's possible that Abin Sur's body may have been recovered off screen. But even if it wasn't, I know that they would properly burry him at some point. I mean they did properly burry the other dead Green Lanterns, right? Did we not see them stored away while Hal was flying in Oa? Sinestro probably recovered Abin Sur's body since he conversed with him, if he did then maybe it got left out.

That's pretty much the fairest comparison I've heard on these boards so far. I have a fondness for both properties, although I'm keener to Marvel because that's what I read as a kid. My experience growing up with DC was the Superman movies (which I still love), and the Superfriends.

Still I have a great affinity for the characters, and I just want to see movies made with these characters. Now with GL failing, chances are that won't happen.

It'll happen. Harry Potter's ending, Batman's coming to an end, so Warner Bros will press on with their comic book properties, just far more careful than they were before...in a good way hopefully.

I think the best choice for DC to try and expand their comic properties passed Bats/Supes is the Flash. I think he'd be the easiest and most accessible for the mainstream public.

I think the Flash's problem is his rogues gallery. They might be a hard pill for the GA to swallow.

Actually, I think the Flash has one of the best. They fit the tone of the character. You'd just have to pick the right ones. I wouldn't use someone like Grodd, but Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, Reverse Flash, etc. These villains would work very nicely.

i think, if done properly, wonder woman is the appropriate choice. but, i think flash would be easier to do properly than wonder woman.

It didn't help that they made Hammond balding making him look like a geezer.
