Psssst...that's not exactly helping your case.If those lines can be anymore cheezier, you can grab a glass of wine and eat it:cwink:

What doesn't help is that 'let me fight for my world' line made zero sense: He had gone to OA to ask for their help to save Earth, they refused, and were not stopping him going back any more than when they did nothing when he 'quit' his training. Maybe there was something more to his being back on OA that got cut (like they summoned him again or something), but as presented he was able to come and go as he pleased.

the critics were way too harsh,i enjoyed it for what it is
my only nit picks are that

1. hector hammond as interesting as he was, felt like an after thought to hal and to the movie itself, now i understand that parallax was the greater threat and the main villian, but still it was kinda like "look hector, can we speed this up, i have a world to save"

the pacing was a bit of a problem, mainly in the 2nd half
it went way too fast
i felt alot had been cut, and if it was atleast 30mins longer to expand on certain relationships/characters that didn't get much screentime/development it would've been alot better

overall it was still really enjoyable and the end credits scene has me excited for a sequel if it happens

7/10

Then they are wrong....it's subjective how much you enjoy it...not how good it is.

I agree. I love how people think they live in a world without horrible taste. Some folks just have bad taste. Poor palettes.

But, its all about personal enjoyment anyway, just like music.

Nope. You can love the movie AvP-R....but it's a **** movie in every sense of the word.

That's a opinion. I don't think the Dark Knight is the greatest movie ever. That's my opinion, i. e subjective.

Yeah it's still bad.

I dont see why this is a hard concept to grasp.

Movie A is poorly made.

Movie B is well made.

I can easily love movie A more then movie B, but it doesnt mean it's the better movie. Just one I love more.

THen you'd have bad taste, because AvP-R is awful. :hehe:
Oh yes, you're the one that "claimed" I had low standards in the Ghost Rider 2 thread, so you'll excuse me if I don't take your word for it:hehe:

By the way, I hate AVP-R.

Redundant news of the day:

- Casey Anthony trail is still ongoing

- Lindsey Lohan is still breaking her probation

- Kim Kardashian still has a big ass

- Green Lantern is still a crappy movie

Again with this debate. Go check the BO thread to see the difference between CinemaScore and other poll outlets. You want the most general, unbiased audience opinion:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/green_lantern/

60 % liked it
Average Rating: 3.5/5
User Ratings: 76,055

That's a C to a C+ rating. CinemaScore never polls anywhere close to that many people.

And I wasn't speaking about the film in general, just the context of that scene. Saying "you didn't get cause you weren't paying attention" doesn't cut it when the reality of that scene is that it doesn't play off of the character they built up for the film. He was a hero, he never had a problem with the Guardians after they explained Parallax to him and made the ring like HE wanted them to. His only problem was his Hal, and that was resolved at the end of the film when he congratulated him.

You can read into the scene 1000 different ways, but what was presented can only logically be explained two ways: A) It doesn't make sense or B) He was curious about the ring... neither fit the context of the character; ergo, it was an unnecessary change.

Forget sequels, films need to stand strong on their own nowadays before they deserve them. Green Lantern proved that.

The thing about Internet polls is that they are inherently biased. Only people who have an interest (good or bad) will go there to vote and you don't really know if that person actually saw the movie or not either. It doesn't truly represent the population of moviegoers that went to see the film. At leas Cinemascore goes out and polls people coming out of the film for their opinion and there is a level of confidence towards it accuracy.

Besides that I know for a fact CinemaScore employees are guided to poll only certain demographics for certain films, they still suffer from human error regardless. Even if they didn't they only poll the people who WANT to be polled. If you though a 2 hour movie was a complete waste of your time there's a good chance you wouldn't hang around to answer questions about it.

There is no such thing as an unbiased and completely accurate poll. It's a shot in the dark

There's a lot of movies that I love but ill be the first to admit that its crappy or cheesy to most. The key is to recognize it and not try to convince others that they're wrong in not enjoying it the way I do or be baffled because others don't see it the way I do.

Hey you, quit being reasonable.

There's so many scenes in Batman Begins that are bad or as cheesy as GL, imo, like the "leverage" one. The costume looks terrible in it and it awfully edited too. Its just bad. Also, the "I wont kill you but i dont have to save you" makes no goddamn sense, imo.

I love that scene. When Rachel finally turns around and sees that thing, I was in heaven. It'd would've scared the crap out of me too. That's the kind of stuff I've always wanted to see in a Batman movie.

I'm a musician, do this for a living, and I thought the music for BB was TERRIBLE. The Batman theme is forgettable in the movie and has about 2 notes, which is a minor third interval played over and over. It sucks. It does not service the movie and one of the scenes that it doesnt work is the scene in the court where Chill is talking. That music does NOT reflect what Wayne is thinking. Wayne clearly just want to kill the guy and is feeling nothing but hate. And yet, the music reflects redemption. The music should always reflect the main character and what he is thinking.
Redemptive in the Chill courtroom scene? What the hell are you talking about? The minor third interval theme (which I love) isn't present at all in the courtroom scene, it's a forlorn, sad, mezzo-piano level strings and drones. In fact, the Batman minor third interval makes no appearances post court room scene until after Bruce has his meeting with Flacone and then gives his wallet to the bum. As he's running away to his destiny, we get the theme. Motivated by a character action and themetically resonant. Perfect.

Be sure you know what the hell you're talking about next time Mr. Musician Man.

It is possible that the asteroid field isnt the ASTEROID BELT between Mars and Jupiter and just some asteroids on the way to the Sun or something as many of those asteroids werent Larger than Hal.

And that proves it's not the astroid belt how? Not all astroids in the belt are the size of Texas.

Don't look now .... RT's audience rating is down to 59% with average rating of 3.4 .... of course that probably means there's some people with a grudge who've never seen the film just logging in with hundreds of fakes accounts just to drag it down. :whatever:

I saw the movie tonight .
I enjoyed it for what it was .
I wished it aimed a little higher.

I certainly understand why many may not like this film, but as a GL fan I really loved it. Yes the pacing and editing is terrible imo, yet I was never bored and had goosebumps towards the end.
Especially when Hal recites the oath while fighting Parallax
I thought Ryan was Hal and actually enjoyed Blake considering the shortness of the film. The special effects along with Mark Strong as Sinestro is the highlight for me, though Ryan's Hal isn't too far behind.

8.75/10 from me, enjoyed it more than Thor, but still First Class has owned this summer/year with movies imo.

While I hope there is a sequel, I highly doubt it at this point. :csad:

Especially when Hal recites the oath while fighting Parallax

That was a great moment, gave me goosebumps too.

It's almost as if he realises he could die at any moment, with this huge almost demonic entity bearing down on him, but saying the oath reaffirms his belief in himself and in the Green Lantern cause - that no evil (no matter how big or ugly :D) will overcome them. Jordan is alone there, no backup, and cornered by Parallax with nowhere to go - but saying the oath is enough to give him this confidence boost from inside. It was watching that scene when I really got a good sense of who Hal Jordan is, and how strong his willpower is - and thus how strong he is, as a Green Lantern. Reynolds' delivery was perfect.

I honestly don't see what anyone saw in Reynolds at all. He was acting like a wannabe Bale Batman complete with the lame voice(albeit, his was better)

I didn't get any sense of Bale or Wayne vibes from Reynolds at all. If anything, the worst he can be accused of is playing himself - but after all, Ryan Reynolds and Hal Jordan do seem to have some similar traits, which is probably half the reason he was hired in the first place.
