The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 5

Doe's anyone know why Hal went into an unconscious state after he bested Parallax? I don't have a clue! I watched some of the movie some more at work and like it some more, I picked up on more things that were seemingly executed in a refreshing manner. I will touch on the moments later on.

Willing things into existence takes effort, along with smashing into a few space-rocks and resisting the gravitational pull of the sun... You'd probably get pretty tired.

I figured it was from getting knocked around, and from the stress he put on his mind and body fighting Parallax. Basically he gave it his all to take out Parallax.

Abin didn't actually defeat him, he imprisoned him. Parallax began to feed off fear and become more powerful, a whole mess of Green Lanterns went after him and Parallax killed four. What if they sent all of the Green Lantern's and he killed all of them? Not only would Parallax be 3200 souls stronger, but there wouldn't be a single Lantern left.

God seriously, what would happen if they sent 3200 after him and launched something more than just some green net? LOL

Useless? What did Abin Sur use to imprison Parallax in the first place?

It appears he used some kind of green energy. Since that's what he has at his disposal.

They should have added some scenes that showed the GL Corps acting competently to offset them acting like *****es and getting their asses handed to them.

They should have this, they should have that. Sure, that would have been nice to see. Obviously this stuff would have required budget that wasn't available.

Hector Hammond put up a better fight than Parallax just by throwing stuff at Hal.

Against a Hal who was far more afraid and vulnerable. By the time he fought Parallax, he was learning to overcome his fear.

Hal defeats Parallax by tricking him into the Sun... Earlier, Kilowogg creates a gravity well when he's training Hal. So, you're saying all of the GL together couldn't create something powerful enough to destroy Parallax, or at the very least trap him and transport him into a star?

No. I'm not saying that, or I would have said it. Of course someone could have written them doing that. But the fact that a writer doesn't stop the film and interrupt it with The Corps doing just that, doesn't make them incompetent. It means there was a story choice for HAL to do that, and not the Corps.

The writers solved the issue of The Corps not saving the day by having The Guardians keep them out of the action.

And it never really showed that the rings had no effect on Parallax. It seemed more like the GL just didn't prepare properly, or lacked ingenuity.

Umm...no...the film showed Parallax breaking free of their constructs. Period.

Hal is shown damaging Parallax multiple times in the final battle (tossing explosives at it, drilling through his entire being).

Right. Because he's the hero, and the hero is supposed to save the day.

Well, you said in an earlier post that it showed that the rings had "little or no effect" on Parallax. Then you agree that Hal's ring is able to effect it. So, does Hal have a special ring or something?

Willing things into existence takes effort, along with smashing into a few space-rocks and resisting the gravitational pull of the sun... You'd probably get pretty tired.

Actually, I was going to stick with something like that but felt as if it wouldn't have been alright to stick with it as an explanation.

@ The Guard, I think that you forgot that Hal told the Guardians to not risk more lives, so again, he did sort of save The GL Corps' butts. But if you haven't forgotten that fact then please, discard this message.

Hey Metropolis Man, did you read my review? If so, what did you think of it?

I believe that I'm going to have to give Parallax a pass as a villain who left an amount to be desired, I'm sure that he would have been a better opponent and challenger if there had been more cash to put to use.

I felt let down by this film, personally. It should have been the space epic it claimed it was. If they want it to be a space epic, set it in ****ing space. Not have it on Earth with space in it.

Firefly is more of a space epic than Green Lantern.

Yes, I did. Because it was shown that the rings had little to no effect on Parallax.

No. Hal does not have a special ring. Hal himself is special. Hal has something inside himself that allowed him to use his ring in a creative way that the rest of the Corps was unable to. Because he is the film's hero.

Too bad that film sucked.

OK, I've just seen Green Lantern and, WOW, that was one of the worst, most uninspiring movies I have ever seen. I wanted to walk out after half an hour. It was boring. There was virtually no good action. The dialogue was uninspiring; no memorable lines whatsoever. With one or two exceptions, the humour was flat; simply not funny. Other than Mark Strong as Sinestro there are no memorable acting performances, and Blake Lively is particularly TERRIBLE. She is also unbelievable as carrol ferris. Terrible and uninspiring villains. Hackneyed plot. All over the place special effects. MCD as Kilowog was terrible; he just sounded like himself but goofier. Design choices were abysmal; Parallax looked incredibly silly; the guardians looked even sillier.

I could go on and on. The training sequence with Sinestro was the only decent scene in the entire movie.

It was NOT FUN! There have been people claiming it's just a fun summer movie; ABSOLUTELY NOT. It is uninspiring and boring.

It's not worth the time and money for a theatre viewing. It's not worth a rental or buying on cheap burned dvd. It's not even worth the bandwidth space to download for free. Not a single person involved in its entire production had even the slightest bit of passion or inspiration. Noone there had a clue of how to make a good superhero movie.

Shame on everyone who has been suggesting that this movie is not as bad as the critics say and those who have been encouraging people to 'go see it and judge for themselves'. It's either you have HORRIBLE taste, are extremely delusional, or you have been trying to trick people so that the box-office for this movie improves. SHAME ON YOU.

If anyone has not seen it yet I implore you do not waste your time and money.

Good for you. You have mastered the art of internet *****ebaggery.

Agreed....'mastered' is a bit extreme.

Why Green Lantern?
Too bad.

Everyone has different taste and how else will you know if you like/dislike the movie until you watch it yourself?

Get over yourself pal, you're not Judge Dredd and your word is not the law.

Go and look up 'opinion' in the dictionary. That's all you're offering forth, an opinion. Some of us actually like the film but we don't go shoving that down people's throats and calling them idiots if they don't like it - just like you are.
