The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 5

Okay, finally got around to seeing this film, and i'm actually baffled by the negative hype.

It's not as bad as people have been making out at all IMO.

No, it wasn't the most thrilling movie ever. But TBH I wasn't expecting it to be, because I don't find Green Lantern the most thrilling character ever.

But I thought the scenes in Oa were great, there was a fairly creative use of the rings powers, Ryan Reynolds was actually suited for the role and carried the movie well, and I thought the final 'sun' battle was a great idea. In fact the more I talk about it, the more I wanna go see it again!

It did feel a bit rushed in places, and some of the lines came off a bit cliched and weak within the context, but I liked the sentiment of it.

It had potential, but weak script that did not favor character development, bad editing, and weird looking villain like Hector Hammond and Cloud Parallax proved to be major drawbacks of the movie.

Even if we take into account all these negative factors, the movie is still worth watching, I still don't understand 26 % Rotten Tomato meter rating and the fan reaction to the movie, the General audience have avoided this movie altogether.

You mean like the first trailer that came out? That was the one that got the negative reaction in the first place...even though it was probably the most accurate.

I think the GA would've probably responded better to that. Call me crazy but more girls would've gone to see it that's for sure.

Yeah I agree with all those points.

What I think is such a shame, is that the possibilities for a sequel are really good.

Mark Strong as Sinistro was brilliant, and i'd love to see him and RR facing off.

But...they didn't respond better to it in the beginning. That's why marketing was forced to make the movie look more interesting than it actually was. Word of mouth about how bad the movie is would have spread regardless after the opening wknd and reviews. so might as well try to fool as many people as possible to coming those first few days.

Heck, if marketing could do that with GL the way it was...imagine what they could have done with a movie that was actually good.

It's enraged me how bad it was.

Looked forward to it for so long, even before they announced they were making one I hope they would. And then this film happened. This film is my Fredo Corleone.

i know how this post will sound but i dont care. people who read for 1 month how bad GL is will have extreme low expactations. so i think its funny how a lot are saying that it was not that bad .

Well, if it's any comfort...the general public doesn't care one way or another as long as there are plenty of other movies that they do enjoy. :O

It's not marketing's fault...it's the film's fault for not being able to live up to what marketing could hype.

Well, it's been well over a month since I saw the movie. Immediately after seeing it, I wasn't too hard on it, but the more I talk about it with people, the more I dislike it.

I wouldn't put this in the same category as, let's say, Batman & Robin or Superman 4, but I WOULD put it with the likes of the Fantastic Four movies: Inoffensive, but not good. :\

I see some are still on the "The trailers, by showing me what was in the movie, fooled me, because even though it didn't show me any epic space battles, I expected them" tack.

Is this the Guard who is quick to nitpick Nolan's Bat films but quick to defend Green Lantern? Just asking.

I was trying to think were I'd put it in the scale of modern Superhero movies. But for me it's more personal preference.

I guess I feel the same way about it as I do Daredevil.

Fine, most people don't think it's a good film. But I will enjoy repeat viewings because I liked it.

Unlike the Fantastic 4 franchise. I never did make it all the way through Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Or the anger I feel towards X3 and SM3.

Question, if Nolan's Batman movies are so good, then why is there an x amount of people who break them down and who complains about them? :cmad:

If you already knew that Nolan's Batman movies are flawed then you shouldn't have jumped on The Guard's back. You can stick up for Nolan's Batman movies all you want, but what you cannot do is expect people from criticizing them immediately. Only in a perfect world people wouldn't be quick to attack Nolan's Batman movies.

Because that's what life is all about.

The best films get broken down the most. Bad movies are laughed at and discarded.

First off, those 'x' amount of people are mostly found here and other boards. Otherwise the Nolan films are positive in most people's eyes.

You can like whatever you like. Because of the fickle nature of the Internet, of course something like Nolan's bat films get nitpicked because it's liked by most. Sometimes there is resentment towards it too. Sometimes not.

I like debates but I've seen a dude hating on Iron Man but loving Ghost Rider, then I have to remind myself that I'm on a board talking about superheroes. No need to get too mad.

And I like Guard because he gives me a new persective with his views, and I miss his page long responses he used to write up.

So don't dare pick a fight with me when you got JMC and vileone who relishes in the failure of glantern. (I like JmC)

So calm!

Lol, the movies gets nit picked because alot of people like them? Wow. The truth is that they get nitpicked because people think that they have their problems! Because they didn't exactly meet their expectations, seriously I can't believe that you said that. You know if you understood that Nolan's movies aren't flawless then I wouldn't have attacked you but you truly acted as if they are masterpieces with ZERO problems. Since people have their own vision of what an ideal Batman movie should be, it makes sense for people to complain about them if they aren't connected to their vision. Why should people not be quick to judge Nolan's Batman movies when they didn't turn out to be good enough in their case?

Every movie has problems but it's the geeks who hones onto them on a meticulous scale. While it's fun then it gets obsessive ad nitpicky. But it's all in good fun.

Whatever flaws that Nolan Bat films has, the good outweight the bad. Samething with Iron Man or whatever.

Nothing's perfect. People feel differently about different things. That's about that.

For example, I didn't like Bale's Bat voice especially near the end of TDK and I can understand people complaining about it.

But it's still a great movie. I like to be constructive with my reviews.

An I've never bashed Green Lantern. I thought it was a missed opportunity and that makes it for a frustrated experience because it had the tools to be something special, and not just serviceable, Mr. Saad.
