Hopefully it'll be like:

It sounds like I'm writing a recipe.

How hard is this:cwink: -How he's going to fit this in an atache case is beyond me right now, but this is going to be more of a thrill than the Transformers...and I'm going to enjoy the time until opening day.

It's called suspension of disbelief

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if they were foreshadowed in the first, only to be explored more in the sequel.

Iron Man Drives an Audi

Source: Variety
July 26, 2007

Variety reports that German automaker Audi has partnered with Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures to tie in with the big screen adaptation of Iron Man:

Deal calls for Audi's R8 supercar to be the vehicle of choice for billionaire industrialist Tony Stark when he's not wearing his high-tech suit of armor as the title character.

The upcoming S5 sports coupe is also driven by a lead character in the movie. Audi's A6 sedan and Q7 SUV will make onscreen appearances in the pic as well.

As part of its involvement, Audi will likely pony up tens of millions of dollars to help promote the movie worldwide upon its release, set for May 2. Details of the marketing plans are still being worked out.

Iron Man Footage at Comic-Con!

Source: Edward Douglas
July 26, 2007

After a bunch of movies were hyped-up at the Paramount panel at Comic-Con International (we'll have more on them soon), they announced that as a special treat, they'd be showing "test animation" from Jon Favreau's Iron Man instead of making everyone wait until Saturday. It was obviously a gag as they started to show cheesy animation from the '60s cartoon and after a bit of that (and a lot of laughter from the packed auditorium), director Jon Favreau came out with his video camera in hand, shooting the audience and saying that he wanted to make sure to put it onto YouTube before anyone else could. Yup, we'd been Punk'd but we were given a special treat for the trouble.

Without much urging, he agreed to show some footage, actually a rough trailer, for the movie, rather than making everyone wait until Saturday to see Iron Man in action. It went by fairly quickly but this is what we remember:

The footage starts with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark addressing soldiers with a speech which is paraphrased here: "Is it better to be feared than respected? I say, 'Is it too much to ask for both?' With that in mind, I humbly present the crown jewel of Stark Industries' Freedom Line. It's the first missile system to incorporate our proprietary repulsor technology." He then says something about the best weapon being one you don't have to fire, but he disagrees and says that the best weapon is the one you only have to fire once. "That's how America does it." It's a great scene that shows the humor that Downey Jr. will be bringing to the role as do the next two scenes.

Then we see Tony Stark coming out of an event in a tuxedo and he's stopped by a Vanity Fair reporter to ask him questions about being a "merchant of death" and he makes a snappy comeback. (We also see Favreau as his bodyguard in the scene.)

The next scene shows a bunch of military vehicles driving through the desert to the tune of an AC/DC tune with Robert Downey Jr. sitting in the back with a soldier who wants to take a picture with him. He jokes "I don't want to see this on your MySpace" page and then the soldier makes a V sign and he says "No gang signs, please." The soldier puts the V down and he goes "I'm just kidding."

There's then an explosion as they're under attack and he runs for cover and then in the next shot, he wakes up in a cavern and opens his shirt to see a round metal device where his heart is. "What did you do to me?" he asks and a man in the cave says, "I did it to save your life," and explains how he has put an electro-magnet hooked up to a car battery to save him.

He then starts building the suit and the next few scenes show him taking on a few Iraqi-types and we get to see the first Iron Man suit in action to the tune of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man." Lots of men are shooting at him but the bullets are bouncing off him and at one point, he swings his fist and his metal arm gets lodged into the cave walls and then one of the guys attacking him walks up and tries to shoot him in the Iron Man helmet but the bullet bounces back and hits him in the head.

The next few scenes are fairly fast-paced showing lots of explosions
and a brief glimpse of Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Terrence Howard as Rhodey and a few quick scenes showing the evolution of the Iron Man armor until it gets to the most current one. (That got a huge cheer.)

We then see Iron Man in that armor flying with two jets following him behind him and he goes flying off. We see a sheet of metal and a hammer hits a chisel that imprints the Iron Man logo and then there's another shot of the Iron Man armor flying.

The movie looks absolutely fantastic and it'll be great to see this trailer again on Saturday! You can also view a new T-shirt for the movie that was handed out here and here.

Matthews Grip's mighty MAX has just returned home, from an intensive work schedule on Marvel Studios/Paramount Pictures action drama Iron Man.

Based on the long-running Marvel comic book series, Iron Man tells the story of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) the enigmatic heir to the Stark Enterprises fortune. A driven inventor and executive, who seems to have it all, Tony is haunted by his dark side. Though he commands his empire by day, by night he secretly becomes Iron Man, the living embodiment of decades of defense spending and innovation. Strapping on billions of dollars worth of state-of-the-art armor and weaponry each night, he fights terrorism and corporate espionage. Soon he begins to crack under the strain of his fractured lifestyle and must ultimately confront the one enemy he can never beat – himself.

Based on the long-running Marvel comic book series, Iron Man tells the story of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) the enigmatic heir to the Stark Enterprises fortune.
“Whenever possible, I like to keep set ups as simple as possible with the least amount of equipment in the way of the actors,” says cinematographer Matthew Libatique ASC (The Number 23, Inside Man, Gothika, Phone Booth). “MAX was a great help.

“We used it everywhere,” he adds. “But it helped, specifically, in a cave set where Tony Stark is held captive and begins his transformation into Iron Man. The set had very high ceilings, which made it difficult to get angles on backlight and separation. The MAX allowed us to get the light in the correct position without the disruption of ladders and rigging overhead. The footprint and the counterbalance make it much more convenient than previously used menace arms and C-booms.

“Now that I know what MAX can do – you can be sure it will be a staple on every job I do.”

MAX, manufactured by Matthews Studio Equipment, is a mechanical, articulated arm that will allow the placement of almost any light – anywhere on set or location. With a maximum elevation of 20 feet, MAX also functions at a negative declination of six feet. MAX is a perfect answer to many production lighting problems on set or location.

Matthews Studio Equipment is a 37-year-old manufacturer of industry specialized hardware and lighting control devices. Based in Burbank, California, USA, Matthews supports productions in over 60 countries throughout the world.

EXCL: Terrence Howard on Iron Man

Source: ComingSoon.net
August 31, 2007

Superhero Hype! parent site ComingSoon.net got a chance to talk exclusively to Terrence Howard about his two new films, The Hunting Party and The Brave One. He was also asked about starring in Iron Man. Here are several clips:

CS: I got to see the footage at Comic-Con a few times and I have to ask because it got me curious… did we actually see a glimpse of War Machine there for a second? Are they going to already start playing up that aspect of your character?
Howard: Ummmm… (chuckles and thinks about how to respond) War Machine is a very intricate aspect of the future franchise of this thing, but this movie is centered more around the creation of Tony Stark turning into Iron Man.

CS: That seems logical, but the fact they're bringing James Rhodes into the story so much earlier than they ever did in the comics, I was curious whether his future incarnation might be hinted at or it would all be saved for the sequels?
Howard: Yeah, we start getting into it. We start getting into it.

There's more, which you can read here!

Again, I think there's a chance we may see it foreshadowed a bit.

can someone PM me a link to where I can see a bootleg of the footage?

I don't get why so many people are hooked on War Machine. I'm a fan of Iron Man which is who the movie is based on. I get it, War Machine is "cool" because he has guns mounted on his shoulders :whatever: . As for the alcoholism, I want to see that too but can wait for the sequel. I think having him a full blown alcholic in the first film would rush things. Let him have some fun kicking some serious ass in the first film and by the end of the movie he can start his descent.

I think it would be better for Favreau to show a bit at the end of the film once Stark realizes he's a bit trapped having to recharge his chest plate to stay alive. His sex life drops since he can't let anyone know he's wearing it to connect him with Iron Man.
